1. So am I, but I can’t miss two weeks of school.
我也是很遗憾，但是我不能两周不上课。
“so+ be/助动词+主语”这一结构表示主语与前一个人的情况相同或同意前一个人的说法，意思是“……也这样”。
① Joe was a little upset, and so was I.
乔有点不开心，我也有点儿。
② He has been ill, and so has his wife.
他一直生着病，他妻子也一样。
③ Neil left just after midnight, and so did Jack.
尼尔一过午夜就走了，杰克也是。

2. I can look after myself, although it won’t be easy for me.
尽管那对我来说不那么容易，但我能照顾自己。
although 表示“虽然,尽管”，引导让步状语从句。类似的词和词组还有though, even though等。这些词和词组引导让步状语从句时，不能和but连用。
Although the sun was shining, it wasn’t very warm.

3. There won’t be anybody to wake you up in the morning.
wake up 表示“唤醒/吵醒某人”
当被叫醒的对象是人称代词时，用宾格，且必须放在短语中间；
当被叫醒的对象是名词时，可放在短语中间，也可放在短语后面。
① My mother woke me up very early this morning.
今天早晨妈妈很早就叫醒了我。
② Tom, thanks for waking my cousin up/ waking up my cousin every day.
汤姆，谢谢你每天叫我表弟起床。
早晨不会有人叫你起床了。
4. Your train is about to leave.
您的火车要开了。
be about to do sth. 表示“就要/正要……”。
① We were just about to leave when Jerry arrived.
杰里来的时候，我们正准备走。
② She looked as if she was about to cry.
她看上去好像要哭了。
5. See you in a couple of weeks!

I saw a couple of men get out.

so +adj./adv.+that 表示“如此……以至于”，引导结果状语从句。
① He spoke so quietly that almost nobody could hear him.

2. I liked the games so much that I played until midnight.
我非常喜欢那些游戏，一直玩到半夜。

4. I started to feel lonely.
我开始觉得孤独。
lonely表示“（主观上感到）孤独的，寂寞的”，带有较强的感彩。
She gets lonely now that all the kids have left home.
因为她所有的孩子都离开家了，她感到很孤独。
I am alone but I am not lonely.
我是一个人，但我不孤独。
alone 也可用作形容词，但通常只是表示客观上的一个人或没有外人，而不表示寂寞或孤独等感彩，并且在句中只作表语。
5. The teacher asked me for my homework, but I couldn’t hand it in.
老师向我要家庭作业，但是我交不上。
hand in指把物品“上交”
I want you both to hand in your exercise-book today.
我要你们俩今天把练习本交上来。
We can help the teacher hand out the exam papers.
我们可以帮老师分发试卷。
hand out指把物品“分发”出去 。
6. I felt tired and sleepy at school all day long.
在校一整天，我都感到疲倦，昏昏欲睡。
all day long表示“ 整天；全天”
① He did nothing all day long but watch TV.

② I could sit and watch the river all day long.
我可以整天坐在这里看那条河。
7. When my parents came home, they were happy to find that I could cook and tidy up now.
tidy up表示“收拾，整理；使整洁”
① Tidy the room up before the guests arrive.
客人来之前把这间屋子整理整理。
② It's your turn to tidy up the room.
这回该你收拾房间了。
当我父母回到家的时候, 他们很高兴地发现现在我会做饭和整理了。
