In 1620, more than one hundred people took a boat called “May Flower” to the New World (新大陆). These people questioned the belief (信仰) of the Church of England and they wanted to separate from it (从中脱离).
Their first winter was very difficult. They had
arrived too late to grow many crops(庄稼), so they
didn’t have enough food. Most of them died from
hunger and disease. At last only about 50 of them
survived (幸存).
The next spring the Indians came to teach
them how to grow corn and other crops (庄稼),
they also taught them how to hunt and fish.
