教学目标：
通过本节阅读课的学习，学生能够掌握以下几方面的能力：
语言能力：掌握和描述和运动比赛有关的词汇，如hurdles race, high jump, Olympic Games, suffer from, one’s ability in, break the record等；根据课文，口头及书面表达刘翔及博尔特的个人简介，并描述从他们身上学到的运动精神。
学习能力：根据需要预习；查找有关奥运赛事的知识，并与英语学科有机融合；善于抓住机会就有关人物（刘翔、博尔特）简介的话题用英语主动练习和实践；能主动复习所学，并不断扩充描述运动人物话题方面的语汇及句型，并能学以致用，把绝不放弃的奥运精神运用到学习中来。

教材分析：
教学内容为外研社英语九年级上册Module 8 Sports life Unit2 He was invited to competitions around the world. 学习内容主要体现在以下几点：1.了解学习刘翔的运动故事，掌握相关的词汇与句型；2.被动语态在文章中的运用；3.挖掘文本的思想内涵，从刘翔的运动故事中总结出遇到困难不放弃的精神并应用到学习中来；4.根据课文的人物描写，写一篇描述博尔特的人物介绍。
学生分析：
本班的学生大部分对英语有兴趣，基础也相对扎实，阅读课的信息量较大，教师在上课的时候应多加引导，让学生带着任务去阅读会更加有目的性，同时也掌握相关的略读、详读的阅读技巧。

Pre-reading 部分，采用快速阅读的方式，让学生对应着信息表去文中快速查找相关信息，可以训练学生的略读这一阅读技巧。让学生在查找信息的同时再次复习在导入部分出现的生词（见红字），从而对部分生词进行二次巩固。

根据课文内容，设计了Activity2和Activity3两个阅读任务。Activity2在原文的习题基础上增加了一个问题：哪几个年份对刘翔来说是重要的，并找出重要的原因；这个问题的设计意在帮助学生在回答完时间轴的问题之后，再度思考刘翔在这些阶段的发展中最为重要的阶段，也是深度阅读文本的方式之一。Activity 3是对Activity2的一个延伸，让Post-reading部分更加充实和饱满，也帮助学生更好地更深入地挖掘课文。同时每一个问题的设计都和中考阅读的技能要求相挂钩，如题2是主旨大意题；题3是文本出处题；最后一个问题4是关于从刘翔身上学到的品质，这个问题也是主题升华的一个题型，意在锻炼学生概括并提炼中心思想的能力。两个活动相辅相成，使阅读步骤环环相扣。

Usain Bolt, a famous sportsman, was born in Jamaica, on 21st August 1986. He is 1.95 metres tall and weighs 94 kilograms. He is good at 100m sprint race and 200m sprint race. At the Bejing, London and Rio Olympic Games, Bolt broke several Olympic Games records and won nine Olympic gold medals. He runs so fast that people all call him UGO. In 2004 and 2005, he suffered a lot from his foot problem, but he did not give up. We can learn a lot from him and take pride in him. He is a true sports hero.
设计思路及资源应用分析：
这一部分的任务设计遵循了由读到写的过程，借鉴前面课文中刘翔的人物介绍，根据教师提供的一些个人信息，要求学生书写一篇著名运动员博尔特的短文。学生在学习课文之后，能较流畅地书写这一短文，并能在文中运用本节课所学的一些词汇和短语（见红字）。在设计这个板块时，教师根据学生的实际课堂操练，结合课文的难易度，把写作板块放在本次阅读课的尾声并编排入家庭作业的一部分。教师先引导学生书写开头，再要求学生课后完成习作。这样的安排层层递进，紧抓文本的重点，并让学生从文字信息的输入转化为文字的输出。
