【语法焦点】定语从句(一)
这个句型是这单元我们重点接触的一个语法项目,你观察两个句子,看看有什么区别:
  一本有趣的书
  an interesting book         形容词interesting做定语修饰名词book
  a book that is interesting     that is interesting这个句子做定语修饰名词book
  interesting/that is interesting作用是相同的,都是用作定语来修饰名词book, 我们把这种在复合句中修饰名词或代词的从句叫做定语从句。再如:
  一位漂亮的女孩
  a girl who is beautiful  从句做定语(girl是先行词)
  等于a beautiful girl  beautiful是形容词做定语
  一本有趣的书
  a book that is interesting 从句做定语(book是先行词)
  等于an interesting book 形容词做定语
  复合句中,修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫做定语从句。定语从句要跟在所修饰的名词或代词后面,被定语从句修饰的名词或代词叫做先行词。定语从句一般用关系代词who,that,which和whose来引导,放在从句的句首使从句与主句相连,并在句中担当一定的成分,关系代词如果在从句中作主语就要用主格,如果做宾语就要用宾格,如果做定语就要用所有格。
  I like music that I can dance to. 我喜欢可以随之跳舞的音乐。
  music作先行词,that I can dance to 是定语从句修饰music,其中,that是关系代词引导定语从句
  I prefer singers who can write their own songs. 我喜爱能自己写歌的歌星。
singers作先行词,who can write their own songs 是定语从句修饰singers,其中,who是关系代词。
在定语从句中,被定语从句修饰的词叫先行词,引导定语从句的词叫关系代词,当关系代词作宾语时,常省略。
eg:I like music (that) I can dance to.
先行词 关系代词 定语从句
由that或who引导的定语从句是本单元学习的重点。这种从句有如下特点:
1.who之前的名词一定是表示人的名词。
I love singers who write their own music.我喜欢自己写曲子的歌手。
2.that引导的定语从句,其前面的名词可以是表示人物,也可以是表示事物的。
All the books that are on English study belong to me.
所有那些关于英语学习的书都是我的。
3.that引导的定语从句,如果前面是表示人的名词,还可以用who替换。
I like groups that wear really cool clothes.我喜欢那些着装确定很酷的组合。(句子中的groups表示人,所以that可以用who替换)
4.that或who在定语从句中可以作主语,也可以作宾语。
Do you know the man who is talking with our Chinese teacher 你认识那个正和我们语文老师谈话的人吗?(who在关系从句中作主语)
Have you seen the book on how to study physics that I ever showed you yesterday morning 你看见昨天上午我给你看的那本关于怎样学习物理的书了吗?(that作showed的宾语,代替book。)

【语法焦点】定语从句(二)
1.关系代词前有介词的定语从句。
I know the movie about_____ you talked last night.
This is the teacher with______ your mom chatted the other day.
当关系代词在定语从句中作宾语,that,which或who可省略;但有介词在前时,不能省略;先行词为物时,只能用which;先行词为人时,只能用whom。
2.who/that在定语从句中作主语时,定语从句中的谓语动词的单复数应与定语从句所修饰的名词保持一致。如:I prefer shoes that are cool.

【语法焦点】定语从句(三)
1.被定语从句修饰的名词,即先行词是物时,既可用which,也可用that。但是如果先行词由不定代词、序数词、形容词最高级、the only、the very修饰时,不可用which,必须用that引导。That在定语从句中作宾语可省略。如:
Is there anything (that) I can do for you 我能为你做点什么吗?
The first thing (that) we should do is to help him.我们应该做的第一件事就是帮助他。
The Nanking Yangtse River Bridge is longest bridge (that) they have ever seen.
南京长江大桥是他们见过的最长的一座桥。
That’s the very tool (that) we are looking for.这正是我们要找的工具。
The book is the only thing (that) remained after the earthquake.书是地震之后留下来的惟一的东西。
2.被定语从句修饰的名词既有人又有物时,只能用that。如:
I can still remember the people and the pictures (that) I saw in the room.我仍然记得我在房间里看到的那些人和画。

定语从句总结及注意事项
定语从句:修饰某一个名词或者代词的从句叫定语从句。定语从句一般紧跟在它所修饰的先行词之后,其中被定语从句修饰的词叫先行词,引导定语从句的词叫关系词。
(1)关系代词(that、who、whom、which、whose)引导的定语从句:
that在从句中作主语或宾语;作主语时,不可省略,作宾语时可省略 指人,相当于who、whom The man that/who teaches chemistry in a college is a professor.(指人,作主语)
指物,相当于which Tomato is a useful vegetable that/which is good for health.(指物,在从句中作主语)
who在从句中作主语或宾语(作宾语可省略) 指人 Tha man (who/whom/that) I talked with is our teacher.(作宾语,可省略)
whom在从句中作宾语(作宾语时可省略,但介词提前则不能省略) 指人 Tha man with whom I talked with is our teacher.(作宾语,介词提前,不能省略)
which在从句中作宾语或主语(作宾语时可省略,但介词提前则不能省略) 指物 A plane is a machine that/ which can fly.(在从句中作主语)The room in which (where) I live in is big.(在从句中作宾语,但介词提前,不可省略)
Whose可指人的,也可指物的,相当于名词所有格。在定语从句中用在名词前 I visited a scientist whose name is known all over the world.(指人,用在名词name前)Mr. Green lives in a house whose roof is red.(指物,用在名词roof前) 格林先生住在一座红屋顶的房子里。
【注意】当介词置于关系词前时,先行词是人,只能用whom,不能用who;先行词是物只能用which,不能用that。
(2)who、that在很多情况下可省略,但在以下情况只能用who,而不能用that:
①.先行词是anyone、someone、those等表示人的不定代词。
②.在there be句型中,先行词指人。eg:There is a man who wants to see you.
(3)which、that在很多情况下可省略,但在以下情况只能用that,而不能用which:
①先行词为all、any、much、many、everything、anything、none、something等不定代词时。eg: Is there anything that you want to buy in the shop
②先行词被all、any、the only、the same、little、few、much等词修辞时。
eg: This is the same bike that I lost.这就是我丢的那辆自行车。
③先行词被序数词或形容词最高级所修饰。eg: This is the first book that he has read.
④先行词里同时含有人和物时,只能用that,而只能用that。
eg: I can remember well the persons and some pictures that I saw in the room.
(4)关系副词(when,where、why),when作时间状语,where作地点状语,why作原因状语。关系副词when,where,why可以用适当的介词+ which来替代。(when=in/on/at…+which, where= in/on/at…+which, why= for+ which)
eg:This is the room where (in which) I lived.= This is the room I lived in.
