When I was five or six years old, I remember watching TV and seeing other children suffer in other parts of the world. I would say to myself, “When I grow up, when I can get rich, I will save kids all over the world. ”
At 17, I started my career here in America, and by the age of 18, I started my first charity organisation. I went on to team up with other organisations in the following years, and met, helped, and even lost some of the most beautiful souls, from six year old Jasmina Anema who passed away in 2010 from leukemia(白血病), whose story inspired thousands to volunteer as donors, to my grandmother, who lost her battle with cancer in 2012, which is the very reason and the driving force behind the Clara Lionel Foundation(CLF). We’re all human. And we all just want a chance: a chance at life, a chance in education, a chance at a future, really. And at CLF, our mission is to impact as many lives as possible, but it starts with just one.
People make it seem too hard to do charity work. The truth is, you don’t have to be rich to help others. You don’t need to be famous. You don’t even have to be college educated. But it starts with your neighbour, the person right next to you, the person sitting next to you in class, the kid down the block in your neighbourhood. You just do whatever you can to help in any way that you can. And today, I want to challenge each of you to make a commitment to help one person, one organisation, one situation that touches your heart. My grandmother always used to say, “If you’ve got a dollar, there’s plenty to share. ”
4.What did the author want to do at a young age
A.Watch TV. B.Grow up quickly.
C.Become wealthy. D.Help other children.
5.What directly caused the author to create and develop the CLF
A.A six year old kid’s request. B.Her grandmother’s death of cancer.
C.Many volunteers’ inspiration. D.Other organisations’ encouragement.
6.What does the underlined word “one” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A.A chance. B.A task.
C.A life. D.An organisation.
7.What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph
A.Do little things to help those around them.
B.Work hard to get a college education.
C.Challenge their friends to offer help.
D.Do charity work whatever you are.

In the short time Steve and Zach had been inside their tent packing their tools, wind blown flame had skipped from the top of one tree to another. The long dry summer had turned the forest into a tinderbox.
“Let’s go! We can make it back to the river we crossed today!” Steve kept Brady on the lead and their heads down against the fire wind. But Brady barked a sharp warning. Ahead of them lay a thick curtain of smoke across the track. They would never make it through that. The dog was pulling at his lead trying to draw them away from the smoke, and yet Steve was uneasy. It seemed to him that they were moving away from the river.
Suddenly, Zach cried. “Zach!” Steve shouted. “Are you OK Where are you?” Then Brady pulled Steve down a sharp slope(坡). At its base, Zach was rubbing his ankle.
As Steve helped his friend to his feet, Brady lifted his head and snuffed(嗅) the smoke laden wind. Next moment, the dog bounded away and disappeared. The boys shouted for him, but he didn’t come back. Steve couldn’t blame Brady for panicking. He himself wanted to run even though he didn’t have a clue which way.
Steve and Zach hadn’t gone far when there was a familiar bark, and Brady came bounding, stopped directly in front of Steve and hit him with his head, pushing him back toward the slope they’d just climbed. But Steve didn’t get it. Then Brady grabbed the boy’s jeans and started pulling. The message was clear, but Steve hesitated. Of course he remembered Brady saving his uncle’s life when the dog was much younger. Was he still sharp enough to get them through this
Nearby, a pine went up in a whoosh of smoke. Brady pulled again, urgently. “OK, big guy, ” Steve gritted(咬紧牙关) . Brady led them back down the slope and into the trees. Not far from them fire was touching underbrush. Several times the big dog stopped. Often he changed directions. Steve was so tired that he just wanted to rest, but Brady wouldn’t have it. The dog bullied both boys to go on. How long they’d walked Steve had no idea. He was almost numb when he heard it — the wonderful sound of rushing water!
8.What happened to Steve and Zach at first

9.Why did Brady want to run away

Traditionally, robots have been hard, made of metal and other rigid material. But a team of scientists at Harvard University in the USA has managed to build an entirely soft robot — one that draws inspiration from an octopus(章鱼) .
Described in science journal Nature, the “Octobot” could pave the way for more effective autonomous robots that could be used in search, rescue and exploration. “The Octobot is a minimal system which may serve as a foundation for a new generation of completely soft, autonomous robots,” the study’s authors wrote.
Robots built for precise, repetitive movements in a controlled environment don’t do so well on rough terrains(地形) or in unpredictable conditions. And they aren’t especially safe around humans, because they’re made out of hard and heavy parts that could be potentially dangerous to their users.
So researchers have been working on building soft robots for decades. They’re taken inspiration from nature, looking to animals from jellyfish to cockroaches, which are often made up of more flexible matter.
But creating a completely soft robot remains a challenge. Even if engineers build a silicone (硅酮) body, it’s still a grand challenge to construct flexible versions of essential parts, such as a source of power.
“Although soft robotics is still in its early stage, it holds great promise for several applications, such as search rescue operations and exploration,” Barbara Mazzolai and Virgilio Mattoli of the Italian Institute of Technology’ Center for Micro BioRobotics, wrote in a comment. “Soft robots might also open up new approaches to improving wellness and quality of life. ”
12.What’s the special feature of “Octobot”?
A.It’s soft. B.It’s made of metal.
C.It’s very small. D.It looks like an octopus.
13.What’s the disadvantage of traditional robots
A.They’re hard to control. B.They’re too heavy to move.
C.They can’t predict conditions. D.They can’t behave well all the time.
14.One of the biggest challenges is to build Octobot’s ________.
A.silicone body B.complex components
C.precise movements D.flexible power source
15.What’s the possible application of “Octobot”?
A.Medical research. B.Life rescue.
C.Machine operation. D.House cleaning.

When I spent the last summer with my Grandmother in Warwick, New York, she sent me down to the grocery store with a long shopping list. Staring at all the items on the list, I wondered how I could find anything on the packed shelves around me. But she insisted.
I walked up to the counter. Behind it was a lady like no one I’d ever seen. Thick glasses rested on the tip of her nose. Gray hair was piled on her head.
“Excuse me,” I said. She looked up.
“You’re that Clements kid,” she said. “I’m Miss e closer and let me get a look at you. ” She pushed her glasses up her nose. “I want to be able to describe you to the policeman if something goes missing from the store. ”
“I’m not a thief!” I was shocked. I was too young to be a thief!
“Maybe not, but I can tell you’ve got potential. ” She went back to reading her newspaper.
“I need to get these,” I said, holding up my list. “So Go get them. ” She ignored my need of a favour. “There’s no one here except you and me and I’m not your servant, so I suggest you start looking for the things on that list. ”
The store was a puzzle to a seven year old, and it seemed to hold all the goods in the world. I complained about this task Grandma had set me to do while trying to find all the items on my list. It took me an hour and a half to do it, and the mean lady behind the counter didn’t even bother to look at me once.
I visited Miss Bee a couple of times a week that summer. Sometimes she sold me an old newspaper instead of the latest one. Sometimes she overcharged me and didn’t seem embarrassed when I pointed it out. Going to the store was more like going into battle, but I survived. By summer’s end the shopping trip that had once taken me an hour was done in 15 minutes. The morning I was to return to Brooklyn, I stopped in to get a soda.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
“All right, Miss Potential,” she said. “What did you learn this summer?” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One day after all those years my seven year old daughter came to me with homework troubles. ____________________________________________________________________________________________

23.A 根据下文母亲的答语 “You’ll run them off tomorrow…”
27.D 根据本句中的“when I drove back for another short…”

故填in。
故填as。
故填it。

“All right, Miss Potential,” she said. “What did you learn this summer?” “That you’re mean!” Finally I said it, thinking that I didn’t have to deal with her again. I believe my job is to teach every child I meet some life lessons to help them. ” At such a young age, I wasn’t capable of appreciating the lessons she claimed she had given to me and I only wished that I had never met her. After checking out, I left.
One possible version:
One day after all those years my seven-year-old daughter came to me with homework troubles. “It’s too hard,” she complained. “Could you finish my math problems for me?” “If I do it for you how will you ever learn to do it yourself?” I responded. Suddenly, I was back at the grocery store where I had learned the hard way to deal with my own business. Had I ever been overcharged since As my daughter went back to her homework, I wondered: Had Miss Bee really taught me something all those years ago Sure enough, she didn’t act as a servant but she inspired potential in a seven year old.
