The Boy Made it!
One Sunday, Nicholas, a teenager, went skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. In the early afternoon, when he was planning to go home, a fierce snowstorm swept into the area. Unable to see far, he accidentally turned off the path. Before he knew it, Nicholas was lost, all alone! He didn't have food, water, a phone, or other supplies. He was getting colder by the minute.
Nicholas had no idea where he was. He tried not to panic. He thought about all of the survival shows he had watched on TV. It was time to put the tips he had learned to use.
He decided to stop skiing. There was a better chance of someone finding him if he stayed put. The first thing he did was to find shelter from the freezing wind and snow. If he didn't, his body temperature would get very low, which could quickly kill him.
Using his skis, Nicholas built a snow cave. He gathered a huge mass of snow and dug out a hole in the middle. Then he piled branches on top of himself, like a blanket, to stay as warm as he could.
By that evening, Nicholas was really hungry. He ate snow and drank water from a nearby stream so that his body wouldn't lose too much water. Not knowing how much longer he could last, Nicholas did the only thing he could—he huddled(蜷缩) in his cave and slept.
The next day, Nicholas went out to look for help, but he couldn't find anyone. He followed his tracks and returned to the snow cave, because without shelter, he could die that night. On Tuesday, Nicholas went out again to find help. He had walked for about a mile when a volunteer searcher found him. After two days stuck in the snow, Nicholas was saved.
Nicholas might not have survived this snowstorm had it not been for TV. He had often watched Grylls' survival show Man vs. Wild. That's where he learned the tips that saved his life. In each episode(—期节目) of Man vs. Wild. Grylls is abandoned in a wild area and has to find his way out.
When Grylls heard about Nicholas' amazing deeds, he was super impressed that Nicholas had made it since he knew better than anyone how hard Nicholas had to work to stay alive.

In parts of Africa, the sky is filled with a dark cloud. But this is no rain cloud. It is a living cloud made of billions of locusts that are traveling across the continent eating every thing in their path.
And in the battle to stop this disaster, a radio station in Senegal, West Africa, is offering listeners 50 kilograms of rice if they can catch and kill 50 kilograms of locusts. The radio station is in one of Senegal's worst affected regions.
This is West Africa's biggest locust disaster in 15 years, and it is moving east, causing huge damage to crops. As they move, they breed, and increase their number and will soon threaten Sudan in the northeast of Africa. Some say it could reach Asia. Experts say the great damage to crops in areas already suffering from food shortage's and war could cause many people to go hungry. Governments in the region are not well equipped to fight the pest.
Although leaders of 12 countries have agreed on a plan, it is not expected to be enough. "We are now treating 6,000 hectares per day with pesticide, but we need to treat 20,000 hectares per day in order to have any hope of controlling this disaster," said Mohamed Abdallahi Ould Babah, director of locust control in Mauritania.
Requests are being made for international aid, which is the only way to limit the crisis, the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization warned.
1.The purpose of offering people rice for catching locusts in Senegal is _________.
A.to get more people to eat rice so as to leave less for locusts
B.to get more people involved in the war on the locusts
C.to prevent more people from starvation
D.to get more people to listen to the radio report on locusts
2.Which of the following is not the reason for West Africans going hungry
A.Locust disaster causes the great damage to crops.
B.Food supply is far from the need of the people.
C.These regions are affected by the war.
D.Grovernments are unwilling to fight the pest.
3.It can be concluded that, in order to end the locust disaster, _________.
A.leaders of 12 countries in West Africa should call on their people to take action
B.insects experts should be sent to these regions
C.other countries outside Africa should keep close watch on their own lands
D.help from all over the world is in urgent demand
4.What does the passage mainly talk about
A.Food shortage in Africa. B.International aid to Africa.
C.The insects attack on Africa. D.Terrible storm in Africa.
D
Easter(复活节) is still a great day for worship, candy in baskets and running around the yard finding eggs, but every year it gets quite a hit worse for bunnies.
And no, not because the kids like to pull their ears. The culprit is climate change, and some researchers found that rising temperatures are having harmful effects on at least five species of rabbit in the US.
Take the Lower Keys Marsh rabbit, for instance. An endangered species that lives in the Lower Florida Keys, this species of cottontail is a great swimmer it lives on the islands! but it is already severely affected by development and now by rising sea levels. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, an ocean level rise of only 0.6 meters will send these guys jumping to higher ground and a 0. 9 meter rise would wipe out their habitat(栖息地) completely.
The snowshoe hare, on the other hand, has a color issue. Most of these rabbits change their fur color from white in the wintertime to brown in the summer, each designed to give them better cover from predators(捕鱼者). As the number of days with snow decreases all across the country, however, more and more bunnies are being left in white fur during brown dirt days of both fall and spring, making them an easier mark for predators. Researchers know that the color change is controlled by the number of hours of sunlights but whether the rabbit will be able to adapt quick enough to survive is a big question. The National Wildlife Federation has reported that hunters have noticed their numbers are already markedly down.
American pikas or rock rabbits, a relative of rabbits and hares, might be the first of these species to go extinct due to climate change. About 7-8 inches long, pikas live high in the cool, damp mountains west of the Rocky Mountains. As global temperatures rise, they would naturally migrate(迁移) to higher ground -but they already occupy the mountaintops. They can't go any higher. The National Wildlife Federation reports that they might not be able to stand the new temperatures as their habitat heats up.
The volcano rabbit has the same problem. These rabbits live on the slopes of volcanoes in Mexico, and recent studies have shown that the lower range of their habitat has already shifted upward about 700 meters, but there are not suitable plants for them to move higher, so they are stuck in the middle. Scientists are concerned about their populations.
Native to the US, pygmy rabbits weigh less than I pound and live in the American West. They are believed to he the smallest rabbits in the world. Their habitats have been destroyed by development. Several populations, such as the Columbia Basin pygmy, almost went extinct and were saved by zoo breeding programs. Pygmy rabbits also rely on winter cover by digging tunnels through the snow to escape predators. but lesser snowfall is leaving them exposed.
All of this gives new meaning to dressing up in a giant bunny costume this Easter.
1.The writer mentions Easter at the beginning of the passage in order to _________.
A.show the importance of Easter Day
B.introduce the issue about bunnies
C.remind people of Easter traditions
D.discuss the relationship between Easter and bunnies
2.The word "culprit"(Paragraph 2) is closest in meaning to ______.
A.criminal B.judge C.victim D.producer
3.According to the passage, some rabbits can now be easily discovered by predators because they _________.
A.are exposed to more skillful hunters
B.have moved to habitats with fewer plants
C.haven't adapted themselves to climate change
D.can't change their fur color into white in the fall and the spring
4.Which best describes the writer s tone in the passage
A.Approving. B.Concerned. C.Enthusiastic. D.Doubtful.

The Jungle Adventures of Eduardo and Me
For the first time, I came in contact with one of the cutest animals I had seen in all my years of adventuring through the jungle, an orangutan.
To be honest, I thought wild animals would be more frightened of humans than this little creature was.
The following morning I woke up in surprise because I felt something getting dropped on my face. As I opened my eyes and looked around, I saw the orangutan in the same position as it was last night. The only difference was that it was eating some type of fruit. After I had watched its behaviors for a short time, I realized that when it had done eating, it would drop the peel of the fruit on me. Never did I imagine that the animal would still be here.
I began to pack up my gear so I could head out of the jungle while it was still light out. I also figured that if the orangutan was going to stick with me while I found my way out, I might as well give it a name. I took one hard look at it and the name Eduardo popped in my head.
"You look like an Eduardo, so that's what I am going to call you," I said to it. After named him, Eduardo looked up at me and smiled a full-toothed smile that I had never seen any animal ever made before.
My bag was packed, and, as I was about to set on, Eduardo latched onto my legs once again, thinking that I was going to leave him behind. "Come on, little guy. I guess you are coming with me," I told him as we started to walk. Eduardo unlatched himself from me, climbed up the trees, and started to swing from the vines in front of me. "Huh," I thought. "It's like he's leading the way for me." I put my trust in this little creature and followed the directions it was giving me for a good hour.
A little while later, I came to a complete stop when I realized that Eduardo had stopped. Being right in front of us was a not-so-nice looking tiger. Eduardo had stopped in the middle of hanging from a branch when he realized that the vicious animal was lying in my path.

答案:
My dream career
There are different careers. My ideal future career is an English-speaking tourist guide.
I have been fond of the English language and western culture ever since I began to study English, which has always been my favorite subject. So far I have taken an active part in various English-speaking contests and activities and have won several awards. In my view, by working as a guide for foreign tourists, I can visit many places of interest in China and make friends with foreign tourists at the same time.
However, there is still a long way to go before I can finally realize my dream. Only by hard work can I get the qualification and serve the people properly.

答案:
Paragraph 1:
This was just great. How was I supposed to get past this thing without it seeing me Then I saw Eduardo jump from the branch where he was sitting, right in the direction of the tiger, which was startled to stand up, gave a roar and attempted to pounce on Eduardo. Suddenly I realized Eduardo was helping me escape by distracting the tiger's attention. I ran secretly along the path until I reached a safe place where I turned to look back in the distance. The tiger still tried to jump into the tree but without success. After failing several times, the tiger left unhappily. Eduardo swung from the branch to the position where I hid myself.
Paragraph 2:
