Living abroad brings many challenges. One of them is looking for the best way to get used to a new culture while not losing your identity. In this process I have noticed that it's very positive to be in touch with expats, especially with expats from your own country. Why Read on.
I have been in Germany for one year and I have had many experiences. Some of them were more positive than others. But when unexpected things happened, it was nice to meet with other Colombians to listen to their experiences. Through this exchange, I have realized that others have felt the same, and that I am not the only one who has had difficulties. I also believe that they, too, have taken something from my experience.
Colombians are really friendly and usually don't have any problems with meeting new people. This has helped me to increase my social network quickly. When I arrived in Germany, I had two Colombian friends here, and I have kept in touch with one of them who helped me to meet other people, not only Colombians.
Most likely, if you are a foreigner in Germany, your native language is not German. This is the way it is in my case. My native language is Spanish and I really enjoy speaking it. But it's even better when I can share my opinions, thoughts, and worries with other expats, or when I can talk about topics which would not seem interesting to local Germans. Besides, it's possible to use lines and jokes that only those who come from the same country or the same corner of the world can understand.
I like social networks and since I arrived in Germany, I have been connected with other expats through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. On these social networks, I can communicate with others and share my experiences. Meanwhile, I also find interesting information that I don't usually get in other forms of media, such as information about jobs, flats, language courses, offers of Colombian products and events which are not in the local newspapers.

B.People who have lost their identities.

B.To avoid difficulties he may face.
C.To feel relieved after knowing their difficulties.
D.To say something nice to make them feel good.
3.What does the author want to show by mentioning his Colombian friend
A.Colombians are really friendly.
B.Other expats can help you make friends.
C.It's very important to meet new people.
D.There are ways to increase social network quickly.
4.What is the benefit of keeping in touch with expats according to Paragraph 4
A.You can learn a new language.
B.You can play jokes on each other.
C.You can use your own language.

The number of people in my house has grown from six to seven recently. A young man from Spain has come to spend six weeks with us. He is no ordinary young man; he's actually my second cousin, and is here to spend time with this side of the family, and of course, to learn English.
Thankfully, he is the same age as my youngest son, and is very fun-loving. I'm sure that he will pick up a lot of English while he plays with my kids. That was actually how I picked up a lot of Spanish when I was a child. My mother would take me to Mallorca in Spain to spend about a month in the summers. Well, that's what happened to me. and I'm very thankful for the experience.
So far, we have taken my cousin to Seattle for a couple of days, and down to a local river to look for gold. Todays I plan on taking him to the museum in the town of Cashmere which is excellent. He will get his first view of Native American life, and be able to walk through some of the original pioneer cabins of this area. Like most boys who are thirteen, he is very curious and constantly asks questions. Of course, I don't always have the answers! Coming to the U.S. is a big step for him. especially being so young. Mind you, he is a world traveller. His mother is an air hostess and is able to get cheap airline tickets, so they travel internationally all the time. I wandered into the small store where I usually buy milk, when the store owner received a call from a customer. The customer and his wife had shopped there several months earlier. He noticed that his wife really liked one thing in the stores so he wanted to buy it as a surprise.
But the customer was in Tennessee, far away from the store which was in Maine. What's more, he had been to the store several months earlier, and it was difficult to believe that the store owner would remember him, or what he was looking for.
The store owner took a few close-up photos with her camera, and e-mailed them to the customer on the computer. The customer looked at the photos, and decided which one he wanted. They talked and discussed a price over the phone. She took care of the credit card transaction(交易) online, and promised the gift would be shipped out that afternoon.
The store owner was really smart. She was willing to push herself to find new ways to make the transaction actually happen. And it did work. However, it was the first time she had ever done it.
I was amazed that the store owner discovered a creative solution that could lead to a new way of doing business. I was impressed by what she did so easily, but how difficult it is for many of us to make that leap(飞跃). I'm not just talking about technology, but about learning how to adapt to change. Most people hate or fear change unless they get to know exactly what change needs to be made. However, we should realize that challenge and opportunity go hand in hand.

A light knock on the door brought me from my kitchen. Because we had just moved into a new neighborhood, I couldn't imagine who it would be. When I opened the door, and old man stood there, who was dressed in dirty clothes and wearing dirty rubber boots. His hand hung a plastic bag.
"Can I help you " I asked.
"Would you like to buy some fresh garden vegetables " he said, his blue eyes full of hope.
"Are they from your garden " I looked inside his plastic bag and saw some carrots with soil.
"Yes," his voice was soft. "And I can get some apples from a tree in my yard. Would you like some of those, too "
My heart softened, and I wondered if he was in bad need of quite a bit of money. With a sigh, I said, "Please step inside and I will get my money."
The next day, he knocked at our door again. This time, my little four-year daughter got there first. "Oh, hello, would you like to come in for tea " Without a second thought, the old man stepped inside and held out a broken basket with several bruised(擦伤的)apples. "From my tree," he said, removing a worn cap. "You might like to make apple pie."
The three of us sat at the kitchen table and drank our tea. It was obvious that my daughter liked hosting a visitor in her never-ending questions. "What is your name Where do you live Why are your clothes so dirty "
The homeless-looking man laughed as he answered each question. His name was Mr. Locket and he lived around the corner. His wife had passed away several years before, and his children all lived far away. He was lonely. His need for company had sent him door to door selling fruit and vegetables. Ours was the only door opened to him that day.

When he finished the tea, he said he had to go home and promised to return the next day. Making his way to the door, he turned and waved us goodbye. My daughter excitedly waited for his visit and made full preparations. As the old man visited us the next day and entered the kitchen, he was amazed by all of the preparations for him, including apple pies. His eyes were filled with tears. We became friends and enjoyed the company this old visitor offered us. Later on, we kept in touch by writing letters, for he had become too old to get around.
Several years later, a small envelope was delivered to our home—a letter from the old man's daughter. She informed us that our dear old friend had passed away. "I'm so grateful for your showing care for my father," she wrote. "I can see how much you meant to him. Here is a letter from my father to you." The letter goes like this, "Thank you for all your kindnesses to an old man. When I was lonely, you took me in. When I was badly in need of a family, you accepted me. My last few years are filled with happiness because of you."
