1. According to the local people, it’s a special and magical place.
当地人认为这是一个特殊而神奇的地方。
according to+名词或代词：复合介词，根据；按照；据……所说
① According to Ben, they are not getting on very well at the moment.
本认为目前他们相处得不是很好。
② They both played the game according to the rules.
他们两个都按照那些规则进行了这场游戏。

Language points
according to只能表示来自其他人或来源的信息，而不能表示来自说话者本人的信息，因此不能说 according to me。
另外，according to不能与opinion连用，当表示“在他看来；按照他的看法”时，要用in his opinion。
注意：

like在本句中作为介词使用，表示“像……”。
① Her hair was so soft that it was like silk.

② Things like glass and paper can be recycled.

本句中with water on three sides为“with ＋宾语＋宾补”构成的复合结构，在句中可作状语或定语。这一结构中的宾语补足语可由形容词、介词短语或v-ing形式等充当。
① They are singing happily with the fire burning.
他们在火堆旁幸福地唱着歌。
② Don’t speak with your mouth full.
