A Russian spacecraft traveling to the International Space Station(ISS) Thursday had to make an emergency landing when the rocket engine failed to fire. It was the latest in a recent series of failures for the Russian space program, which is also used by the U.S. to carry its astronauts to the station.
United States astronaut Nick Hague and Russian astronaut Alexei Ovchinin landed safely about 20 kilometers from Dzhezkazgan in Kazakhstan. The city is about 450 kilometers from the Russia's Baikonur space center, where Russia operates through an agreement with the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Both the U.S. space agency NASA and Russia's Roscosmos reported that the two were quickly recovered from the landing area by the rescue crew. A spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin said “Thank God the crew is alive” after they had landed safely.
About two minutes after launching, the three-stage Soyuz booster rocket suffered an unspecified failure of its second stage. Russia's TASS news agency said the capsule carrying the two men separated from the troubled rocket safely. This caused the capsule to drop very sharply into the Earth's atmosphere. Parachutes(降落伞)helped slow the returning capsule. Search and rescue teams were sent to recover the crew.
Russia's RIA news agency reported that Russia immediately suspended all manned space launches after the failure. Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin said he had ordered a state commission to carry out an investigation into what went wrong. He said Russia would share all relevant information with the U.S.
The TASS news agency said that the ISS crew had enough supplies and that the failed launch would not affect operations.
The U.S. and other nations have depended on Russia to carry astronauts to the ISS since the retirement of the Space Shuttle program in 2011. In the coming years, American aerospace companies SpaceX, with its Dragon 2, and Boeing, with its Starliner, are expected to return to space.
4.What caused the failure of the launch

C.The failed launch will have a serious effect on the operations.
D.At first the capsule dropped very rapidly into the Earth's atmosphere.
6.What can we infer from the last two paragraphs
A.SpaceX is sure to go back to space soon.
B.America carried astronauts to the ISS by itself before 2011.
C.Now only Russia can carry astronauts to space.
D.The ISS crew lives a very good life in the space station.
7.What can be the best title of the text

Unlike early space travelers, today's astronauts enjoy various freeze-dried meals, snacks, and desserts that can be commonly found on Earth. However, delicious as the food is, it pales in comparison with a freshly-cooked meal. Now astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) may soon be able to have freshly-baked cookies to eat, thanks to a newly-acquired space oven.
The oven built by NanoRacks—a space company that helps develop experiments for the ISS—was sent to the ISS on November 2,2019. It's specially designed to withstand the space station's microgravity environment. Mary Murphy, a NanoRacks manager who helped develop the space oven, says the biggest challenge was keeping the cookie dough from floating inside the oven.
To solve the hurdle, the inventors decided to keep the cookie dough inside a sealed tray that can be placed directly into the oven. Once the cookies are baked, the plate is automatically transported to an integrated cooling vent(出口) which can only be accessed once the treats are at room temperature.
Murphy says, “What is so interesting about this is that it'll be the first time that something will be baked in space. What will the cookies look like While we don't know for sure how the experiment will turn out, we're looking forward to finding out and learning how to best bake food products in space.”
While the cookies' appearance has been revealed, their taste will remain a mystery for some time. That's because the freshly-baked space treats have been returned to Earth to undergo testing to ensure they're safe to consume.
8.Why is the cookie dough kept inside a sealed tray when baked in the oven at the ISS
A.To make it baked more easily.
B.To prevent it floating in the oven.
C.To make it convenient to take out.
D.To connect it with a cooling vent.
9.What is Mary Murphy mainly talking about in Paragraph 4
A.Their interest in doing the experiment.
B.The expectation of the space oven.
C.The challenges they are faced with.
D.Their devotion to the research.
10.Why do the cookies need testing after they are baked
A.To confirm their appearance.
B.To ensure that they're delicious.
C.To make sure of their security.
D.To know if they are nutritious.
11.What may be the best title for the text
A.A special space oven is launched into the ISS.
B.A company has developed a special space oven.
C.Freshly-cooked space food is available due to a space oven.
D.Astronauts may soon enjoy freshly-baked cookies.

Step into Moving to Mars, an exhibition of the Mars mission and colony design at London's Design Museum, and immediately you have good reasons for not moving there.
Frightening glowing wall-texts announce that Mars wasn't made for you, that there is no life and little precious water, that, dressed in a spacesuit, you will never touch, taste or smell the planet you now call “home”. As Lisa Grossman wrote for New Scientist a couple of years ago, “What's different about Mars is that there is nothing to do there except try not to die.”
It is an odd beginning for such a celebratory exhibition, but it provides a valuable, dark background against which the rest of the show can sparkle(闪耀)—a show that is, as its chief manager Justin remarks,“not about Mars;this is an exhibition about people.”
Moving along, there is a quick yet clear flash through what the science-fiction writer Robinson calls “the history of Mars in the human mind”. A Babylonian clay tablet and a Greek vase speak to early ideas about the planet. A poster for the original Total Recall film reminds us of Mars' psychological threat.
The main part of the show is our current plans for the Red Planet. There are real spacesuits and models of 3D-printed Martian settlements and suitable clothing and furniture. Mission architectures and engineering sketches line the walls. Real hammers meant for the International Space Station are wall-mounted beside a low-gravity table that has yet to leave, and may indeed never leave, Earth.
This, of course, is the great strength of approaching science through design: reality and assumptions can be given equal visual weight, drawing us into an informed conversation about what it is that we actually want from a future on Mars.
12.What is the text mainly about
A.How to move to Mars.
B.How to survive on Mars.
C.What preparations we made for Mars.
D.What the exhibition of Mars truly tells us.
13.What can we learn from Lisa Grossman
A.It's impossible to live on Mars.
B.It's no good settling on Mars.
C.You have nothing to do living on Mars.
D.You can live on Mars in your spacesuit.
14.What does the exhibition focus on
A.The current plans for Mars.
B.The advantages of living on Mars.
C.The early ideas about Mars.
D.The history of Mars in the human mind.
15.What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph
A.An experience. B.An opinion.
C.A fantasy. D.A solution.

Online courses have become popular in many countries. There are different kinds of online courses, but most show a video of a teacher and students in a classroom. Students watch the video online and take part in online activities. Some courses are free and open to anyone. 16 Of course, watching videos on a screen is not the same as taking part in a real class.
17 In Singapore, eight schools have been chosen to try new ways of using technology in the classroom. The schools have tablets(平板电脑)and touchscreens instead of books and blackboards in the classroom. 18 Through them, students can communicate with each other and work on projects together.
In South Korea, some students have been taught English by teachers in the Philippines and other countries since 2011.The teachers are in their home countries and are connected to the Korean classrooms via the Internet. Instead of looking at a screen, the students interact with a robot in the classroom. The robot is controlled by the teacher. 19
Thanks to technology, more and more ways of teaching and learning are being developed.
20 But one thing is for sure—there has never been a more interesting time to be a student.

Deep in the forest, my husband and I had fun climbing over and crawling under the downed trees that blocked the dirt path before us. It was May, yet we walked up a snow-covered hill. When we noticed our jeans were wet up to our knees, it did not dampen our spirits. Not once did we say, “Let's turn around.” This was our vacation, and we were on an adventure. Little did we know this was the beginning of many more surprises.
The trail was marked as an easy one-kilometer like yet we were already walking a long distance. Our light-heartedness stopped when we came out into a clearing and saw a parking lot without our rental car in it. As my eyes scanned the surroundings, nothing looked familiar. My heart raced. I realized we were lost in a national park that did not officially open for another week.
Usually, I am the calm one in the relationship, but my husband surprised me with his calmness. This did not comfort me; in fact, it heightened my fear. As we walked, I asked my husband to call for help, but there was no cell-phone signal in this isolated(偏僻的)area.
It was awfully quiet except for our footsteps hitting the road, and my heavy breathing. My husband suggested we conserve energy and walk slower. With each step on the road, my feet and thighs hurt while my mind raced with thoughts about people who got lost in the Canadian woods for days.
My vision sharpened. I noticed everything around me: the trees, rocks and snow. I thought we could eat the snow on the ground in case we needed water. For the first time in my life, I was ready and willing to get a ride, but we did not meet with a single car on the road. Silently, I prayed multiple times. We focused on each other, made joint decisions and connected each other through gratitude. We managed to stay on the main road and walked straight on.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance.
Paragraph 2:
Just then, a friendly woman appeared, saying, “Hello.”

第三部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
A week ago, I saw a poster calling on students to join in the Earth Day activity on our campus, which was a great chance for me to devote my efforts to a greener world. Without hesitation, I registered for the activity.
As the theme of this year s activity is “recycling”, we worked in groups to recycle used materials in our school and the neighbouring community. We turned the waste into useful items. We gave them away as gifts to schoolmates and people in the neighbourhood, encouraging them to recycle as much as they can.
This experience also taught me that we can all do more to create a more sustainable world.
第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance. In no time we found ourselves heading for it. We were filled with hope and excitement to find such a building in the middle of nowhere. We climbed up the hill at a swinging pace as if all the pains had been gone. As we approached, a sign came into sight, which read: Administration Office. However, it was not open for business. The empty hall made us nervous all at once. We stood there hopelessly, wondering what to do next.
Paragraph 2:
Just then, a friendly woman appeared, saying, “Hello.” I could barely hold back my enthusiasm and blurted out, “We re lost!” She comforted us and opened a room for us to take a break. Seeing we were cold and hungry, she treated us with hot chocolate. After studying the map, we figured out that our car was parked over three kilometers away. She offered to give us a ride back to our car and we accepted gladly. I felt relieved to see our rental car again. What a blessing to have such an unforgettable experience!
