The morning after an evening struggle to care for my three-year-old daughter, I couldn't wait to get her to school. I, as a mother, was tired of the anger and her inability to communicate because of her abnormal language development.
As I accompanied her into the car, I was in deep despair. Nothing was right with our world. She'd been born around the same time when the nation was witnessing the birth of another Great Recession. My job and my house had been victims. Then this happened. Since my child's language delay was identified, I had been pessimistic but doctors struggled to properly help her. I felt as if we both needed to be rescued.
I returned that afternoon as disenchanted with the little girl I loved as when I left. Walking slowly toward the school's playground gate, I found her preschool teacher racing to greet me.
“Madame, you should have seen her today!” His breathy words were supported by excitement. I didn't interrupt. “See that climber,” he pointed to a wooden piece of playground equipment that looked like a rock wall. I nodded. “Well, every day since she started school, she's tried and failed to make it to the top,” he took a breath. “And today she did it!”
He expressed his joy just as he'd seen her conquering Mount Everest! “She cheered and celebrated! I wish I'd recorded it!” His words comforted me. My daughter had conquered her mountain.
As she ran toward me, I recognized something I hadn't before. I saw her perseverance(毅力). I saw her strength. I saw a hero.

China will have the most 5G connections of any nation by 2025, according to a new study, while Europe will fall behind Korea, the United States and Japan in terms of 5G penetration (渗透) by that year.
5G is the fifth generation of network technology. It is expected to bring unbelievable speeds to Internet users, with some operations running 10 times faster than on 4G networks. 5G is also expected to unlock the potential in a lot of new services, including artificial intelligence, science of robots, self-driving cars, and the Internet.
The GSMA said that China's three major mobile operators—China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Telecom—are already moving ahead with 5G networks. While most nations will have 5G by updating existing foundations, the study notes that China plans to build part of its 5G networks.
One of the major distinguishing factors between Chinese mobile operators and those in the rest of the world is the intention to erect the new and independent 5G networks. That is, China is determined to build completely advanced 5G networks. The high cost underlines China's seriousness about paying whatever it takes.
Korea will lead the world in terms of 5G penetration in 2025, when 66 percent of the nation's total connections will be 5G, according to GSMA. This compares to 50 percent in the US,49 percent in Japan, 36 percent in China, 30 percent in Europe, and a global average of 18 percent. Out of the five economies leading on 5G, Europe will have the lowest participation in 2025, as the area is moving more slowly in having its 5G networks.
8.What will 5G bring
A.A completely new pattern for daily life.
B.Excellent networks and national safety.
C.Amazing speeds for public transportation.
D.The realization of the potential of many new services.

C.Only five countries will have 5G in 2025.
D.Europe will pay little attention to 5G in 2025.

The online takeaway industry is growing in China along with the rapid development of the Internet economy. But environmental activists complain that the huge volume of plastic utensils (用具), wrapping and containers presents a great challenge to the environment, and that the heavy use of throwaway wooden chopsticks is reducing natural resources.
On September 1, 2017, the Beijing No. 4 Intermediate People's Court accepted a lawsuit filed by the Chongqing Green Volunteer League, an environmental non-governmental organization (NGO), against the country's three largest food delivery platforms at that time—Baidu Waimai, Ele.me and Meituan. The NGO stated that the companies failed to provide customers with the choice not to receive throwaway plastic utensils along with their food deliveries. Meanwhile, these utensils have created large amounts of rubbish and caused serious ecological damage.
In response, both Meituan and Ele.me, which acquired Baidu Waimai in August, have promised to take measures to reduce plastic waste. Meituan announced that it would appoint a chief environmental officer to oversee environmental issues from plastic waste and upgrade its smartphone app to provide consumers with the option of ordering food without single-use chopsticks, spoons or napkins. Ele.me followed by offering a similar choice and putting forward a plan to introduce suppliers of degradable (可降解的) plastic utensils to restaurants in the long term.
Is there a possible way out Combined efforts by delivery platforms, consumers, restaurants and government departments are required to address plastic waste pollution.
For platforms, promoting environmental protection and introducing this idea to consumers are a meaningful move. Moreover, in the future, they should also make strict rules about the use of plastic utensils. For example, no more than one plastic bag should be used to wrap soup dishes, and all plastic products should be degradable. It is a long and difficult task for them, and the recent reactions from Ele.me and Meituan are just beginnings.
Considering most takeout food packaging is thrown into garbage bins and then taken away along with other household garbage, sorting waste also becomes more important. Government departments could play a major role in this, and by recycling some materials, waste pollution could be reduced and resources saved. Furthermore, there have been growing calls that the government should also invest more in developing degradable plastic products or environmentally friendly alternatives.
Though consumers enjoy the convenience yet also suffer exposure to the pollution, many of them have paid little attention to the plastic waste problem. Environmental groups suggest that consumers change their habits a little by using their own utensils and dishes and refusing unnecessary plastic containers.

A.causing damage to people's health
B.violating environmental standards
C.using many wooden chopsticks
D.offering no utensil option
13.The author suggests food delivery platforms .
A.raise people's awareness

C.upgrade their application design
D.hire a chief environmental officer

If you tend mostly toward optimistic thinking, you can get better at seeing what's good. Here are some things to try.
Notice good things as they happen. At the end of the day, take 10 minutes to run through your day and come up with things that you're grateful for. 16 Write them down in a journal or keep tracking using a motivational app on your phone or tablet.
17 Get into the habit of telling yourself specific things you can do to succeed. For example: “If I study, I can get a better grade.” “If I practice, I'll perform well.” “If I go on that volunteer trip, I'll meet new friends.”
Don't blame yourself when things go wrong. 18 Instead of thinking “I failed that math test because I'm terrible at math,” tell yourself, “I failed that test because I didn't study hard enough. I won't let that happen next time!”
Remind yourself that setbacks are temporary. 19 And then come up with a plan for your future success. For example: “My SAT results aren't what I hoped, but I can study much harder and take the test again.”
Optimism is a thinking style that can be learned, which means that pessimism can be unlearned! 20 Just keep telling yourself, “I can be more optimistic and I'm going to keep practicing!”

It was a Saturday afternoon. The color of the sky was changing, first light gray, then dark gray, and finally dark and dense. The wind was blowing heavily, and the trees were swaying in the strong wind. It began to rain cats and dogs. Soon, the road was filled with puddles from the rain.
On such a stormy afternoon, my mother took my five-year-old brother, Christopher, and me to a new big toy store she had read about in the newspaper. “So many toys,” the advertisement had shouted in full and flashy color, “that we had to get a huge warehouse to fit them all!”
Christopher and I couldn't have been more excited. We ran across the parking lot, through the cold and biting rain, as fast as our little legs could carry us. We left our mother outside to battle with the frustrating umbrella, which never worked when she wanted it to. “Christine! Take care of your young brother!” Mother shouted at the top of her voice.
“Christine! I'm going to find the Lego section (乐高积木区)! There's a new pirate ship I want, and I have four dollars! Maybe I can buy it!” Christopher exclaimed and ran off excitedly. I only half heard him. I took a right turn and, to my wide-eyed delight, found myself in the midst of the Barbie (芭比) World.
I was studying a Barbie and doing some simple math in my head when an earthshaking clap of thunder roared from the storm outside. I jumped at the noise, dropping the doll to the floor. The lights flickered (闪烁) once and died, covering everything in a blanket of blackness. Thunder continued to shake the sky and lightning illuminated(照亮) the store for seconds, casting frightening shadows on my mind.

根据Pet by Akwaeke Emezi部分中的“But when a creature named Pet appears from one of her mother s paintings, on the hunt for a monster”(但是,当一个叫Pet的生物从她妈妈的一幅油画中出来猎杀怪物时)可知,Pet这本书描写的是一个生物猎杀怪物的事,故选A项。

I felt as if we both needed to be rescued.
As I accompanied her into the car, I was in deep despair.
We encourage you to click these brief accounts可推断,本文最有可能来自网络。 A.收音机;B.杂志;C.
C
5G is also expected to unlock the potential in a lot of new services, including artificial intelligence, science of robots, self-driving cars, and the Internet.
The high cost underlines China s seriousness about paying whatever it takes. 36 percent in China,30 percent in Europe可知,到2025年中国5G渗透率将达到36%,欧洲达到30%。 故选A项。 China is determined to build completely advanced 5G networks可知中国政府会支持5G的发展,故B项错误。
That is, China is determined to build completely advanced 5G networks.
故选A项。

For platforms, promoting environmental protection...the use of plastic utensils. 故选A。
根据第六段中的Government departments could play...resources saved. 故选A。
16.E 设空处下文“Write them down in a journal...” E项中列举的“having a good meal”和“meeting an old friend”为其提供了指代对象,同时也照应了上文中的“things that you re grateful for”。故选E项。
17.G 根据下文“Get into the habit of telling yourself specific things you can do to succeed.”(养成一种习惯,告诉自己你能做什么具体的事情从而走向成功。)
18.F 上文说“Don t blame yourself when things go wrong.”(当事情出错时,不要责怪自己。),结合下文“Instead of thinking...tell yourself...” 而且F项中的“when things don t go as planned”与上文中的“when things go wrong”相照应,“your inner voice say”与下文中的“thinking”相照应。故选F项。
19.D 根据段首中心句“Remind yourself that setbacks(挫折) are temporary.”(提醒自己挫折是暂时的。)
20.A 根据下文“Just keep telling yourself...”(要不断告诉自己……)中的keep一词可知A项(要变得积极可能需要一段时间)符合文意,且A项中的代词It与上文“Optimism is a thinking style that can be learned”相照应。故选A项。

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Tom,
In order to protect traditional Chinese culture, an activity about the culture of the Han Dynasty was held in our school hall yesterday. Since you are interested in traditional Chinese culture, I am writing to tell you about it.
The activity started with a wonderful dance performed by several girls wearing beautifully-designed Hanfu. Later, a teacher introduced the characteristics of Hanfu and the etiquette of the Han Dynasty. Students who had questions asked the teacher actively.
Through this activity, I have learned more about the culture of the Han Dynasty. It s really meaningful.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
“Oh no,” I thought, “where s Christopher ” Scared and frozen on the spot, I felt the need to see and hug my brother and make sure he was all right. My stomach twisted. I ran up and down the aisles(过道) in the dark, panic filling my small chest and making it difficult to breathe. I knocked into displays of candies and tripped over toys, while calling my brother s name like crazy. Anxious as I was, I could not find him. Tears of frustration and fear trickled down my face, but I continued to run.
Paragraph 2:
“Christine, I m here.” Excitement took my breath away—there in the Lego aisle I found Christopher. He was standing alone, perfectly still, next to the pirate ship set. I began to cry in relief, throwing my arms around him and hugged him tightly. He hugged me back, saying, “I knew that if I waited here, Christine, you would be able to find me.” Then, I took his hand in mine and we went to look for our mother, who must be desperately searching the store for us.
