In 1987 a small company named Huawei was started in Shenzhen. After more than 30 years of development, the company has now beaten Apple and become the world's second largest maker of smartphones. It has also become the world's supplier (供应者) of 5G.In China and even in the world, Huawei is a wonder. Although it started producing mobile phones not many years ago, it has become one of the most famous phone companies.
But recently, Huawei faces some difficulties. The US government made a law to stop its sales in America. American officials said Huawei gave information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the same time, the US government planned to stop selling parts and services to Huawei. They believed that Huawei's business would be hurt this way.
“We have never received such a request from the Chinese government and we have never tried to get into other systems to collect information,” Ren Zhengfei, Huawei's president said. “The law would have little effect on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems,” Ren added.
In an interview several years ago, Ren Zhengfei said, “I started Huawei with only £4,000 at the beginning, but now it has become a $100 billion company. The experience was not as romantic as you imagine.”
Facing the law of the US, Huawei is growing. Huawei's smartphone sales around the world rose 50 percent compared with a year earlier in the first three months of 2019.At the same time, sales from both Samsung and Apple fell. So far Huawei has grown into the world's largest telecommunication equipment supplier (供应商), selling in 170 countries. It may beat Samsung as the largest smartphone maker in the near future.

China's new bullet train is now the world's fastest land vehicle (交通工具). China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation showed the production version of its magnetic levitation (磁悬浮) bullet train in Qingdao on Tuesday. State media says the train has a top speed of 373 mph. That speed doesn't just make it the fastest train in the world, but makes it the fastest land vehicle. The bullet train is able to travel at such high speeds because of magnetic levitation. The technology uses electro magnetic force to levitate the body of the vehicle less than two inches from the rails and drive it forward along the tracks. By riding on a cushion of air, friction (摩擦力) is completely reduced, allowing it to travel faster than traditional trains where wheels and rails are constantly in contact. Although China has made use of the technology for a couple decades now, it's only ever been used at very limited areas.
China Railway says its bullet train will greatly help cut down travel time. At top speedy the vehicle will be able to complete the 754 mile trip between Beijing and Shanghai in just two and a half hours. That same trip takes just over three hours by plane, five and a half hours by current high speed rail options or 12 hours by car. That could make the train an especially attractive travel option for business travelers in the country. It's unclear when the new bullet train will go into operation. The vehicle that the company showed off on Tuesday is the finished article.
Of course, the train's record might not stand for long. The Central Japan Railway Company is testing a maglev train. It will be able to top out at 375 mph, according to New Atlas. But that isn't expected to be shown in public until 2027 at the earliest. That gives China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation plenty of time to refine and upgrade its bullet train and push its top speed even higher.
32.What can we know about the China's new bullet train
A.It is the fastest land vehicle. B.It is close to the speed of sound.
C.It has gone into operation widely. D.It has taken the place of the traditional train.
33.What challenge might China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation face
A.The poor management of it. B.The lack of money used to improve the train.
C.The competition from Japanese company. D.The shortage of creativity from its engineers.
34.What is the attitude of the author to China's bullet train
A.Objective. B.Doubtful. C.Unconcerned. D.Unfriendly.
35.What is the text mainly about
A.The world's most costly train.
B.The China's new bullet train.
C.The China's modem trains.
D.The world's fastest vehicle.

Jenny was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn't help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother.Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat.She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked,“Hey,girl,do you want to have the noodles?”
“Oh,yes, but I don't have money on me,” she replied.
“That's nothing.I'll treat you today,” said the man.“Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles. It was so attractive. As she was eating,Jenny cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing.Actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears.“Even a stranger in the street would give me a bowl of noodles while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me.She is so merciless compared to a stranger!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled,“Girl,do you really think so?I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot.But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you?Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock;she remembered her mother's familiar face and weathered hands.“Why didn't I think of that?A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted. Why haven't I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?”
On the way home,Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

To finish today's programme, I want to tell you about the Rose Shopping Centre. It's taken three years to build and finally opened three weeks ago.
Firstly, getting there; there are organized coach trips from most towns but they leave early and come back very late, so I drove. You can also get there by subway, but the station is 15 minutes from the centre by bus, and the buses are really crowded.
The shops don't open till 10 am except on Saturday when they open at 9:00. They close at 8 o'clock every day except Friday when they're open until 9 pm.
The centre has three floors. There are 25 different shops on F1 and F2, and there are seven different banks on F3, as well as several restaurants and a cinema.
Although I had a good day, I had one complaint. Everywhere was at first quite clean but people were dropping their fast food boxes and empty drink cans on the ground because there weren't any garbage cans to throw them in. Thank you all for listening! That's all for today's programme.

More than glad to hear from you, I can understand your feelings. Sometimes parents can become overprotective. After all, it's their duty to protect their children from harm.
But don't be unhappy. Instead, try the following pieces of advice. Firstly, tell your parents what you think about their protective behavior. Tell them you fully understand their love for you, but explain the side effects of overprotection. Moreover, show your parents how responsible you can be and make it clear whenever you need their help.
I hope you will find my advice helpful. Wish you all the best.

They say there are three ways to experience the Grand Canyon: on foot, on mules (骡子) or by air. We chose the first. Up early, my husband and I and our three children couldn't wait to get started. We decided to walk along a lovely path named Bright Angel Trail.
As we set out, I was shocked at how narrow the path was. And I couldn't help noticing that the other tourists weren't like us. They had heavy backpacks, water bottles, and hats. But as usual we were dressed. As the sun rose higher, Arizona's famous heat seemed to roast us. There was no shade and our legs were aching. We decided to go back, with the girl on my back and the boys far behind. By the time we finally got back, our__legs__were__like__jelly.
The next day, after we'd had a long rest and a good breakfast, we were ready for another view of the Canyon—by air. After our last walk, this would be the easiest thing in the world.
We called to each other excitedly as the plane took off and circled around the Canyon. But the smiles on our faces disappeared as the pilot tossed(翻转)the plane around, pretending he was going to hit the ground. I shouted, “STOP, TAKE US BACK!” When we finally arrived back on land, once again our legs were like jelly. We hardly spoke as we drove back.
As I said, there are three ways to view the Grand Canyon. We never tried the mules, but personally I'd suggest a fourth: buy yourself a good magazine like National Geographic. That way, you can see the Canyon, without fear or tiredness.
1.What can we learn from the second paragraph

The African elephant, the largest land animal remaining on earth, is of great importance to African ecosystem. Unlike other animals, the African elephant is to a great extent the builder of its environment. As a big plant eater, it largely shapes the forest and savanna (稀树草原) surroundings in which it lives, therefore setting__the__terms of existence for millions of other animals that live in its habitat (栖息地).
It is the elephant's great desire for food that makes it a disturber of the environment and an important builder of its habitat. In its continuous search for the 300 pounds of plants it must have every day, it kills small trees and underbrush, and pulls branches off big trees. This results in numerous open spaces in both deep tropical forests and in the woodlands that cover part of the African savannas. In these open spaces are numerous plants at various stages of growth that attract a variety of other plant eaters.
Take the rainforests for example. In their natural state, the spreading branches overhead shut out sunlight and prevent the growth of plants on the forest floor. By pulling down trees and eating plants, elephants make open spaces, allowing new plants to grow on the forest floor. In such situations, the forests become suitable for large hoofed plant eaters to move around and for small plant eaters to get their food as well.
What worries scientists now is that the African elephant has become an endangered species. If the elephant disappears, scientists say, many other animals will also disappear from vast areas of forest and savanna, greatly changing and worsening the whole ecosystem.
5.What is the passage mainly about
A.Disappearance of African elephants.
B.The eating habit of African elephants.
C.The effect of African elephants' search for food.
D.Forests and savannas as habitats for African elephants.
6.What does the underlined phrase “setting the terms” most probably mean
A.Fixing the time.
B.Worsening the state.

7.What do we know about the open spaces in the passage
A.They are home to many endangered animals.
B.They provide food mainly for African elephants.
C.They result from the destruction of rainforests.
D.They are attractive to different kinds of plant eating animals.
8.The passage is developed mainly by ________.

B.describing the changes in space order
C.pointing out similarities and differences
D.showing the effect and then explaining the causes

Elephants are able to know the difference between a man and a woman, and can tell an adult (成年人) from a child—all from the sound of a human voice. This is according to a study in which researchers played voice recordings to wild African elephants.
The animals showed more fear when they heard the voices of adult Masai men. Usually Masai people hunt elephants, and this suggests that animals have grown to listen for and avoid them.
Prof. Karen McComb and Dr. Graeme Shannon from the University of Sussex led the study. They explained that in former research they had used similar experiments to show that elephants could tell—from the sound of a lion—whether the animal was a female (雌性) or a more dangerous male (雄性).
Prof. McComb wanted to find out if the animals used their very sharp sense of hearing to recognize danger from humans.
The scientists recorded Masai men, women and children saying, in their own language, “Look, look over there, a group of elephants are coming.” They also recorded Kamba men saying this phrase.
Masai people often come across elephants, which can result in violent (暴力的) hunting. Kamba people, however, mainly feed on agriculture, which does not generally bring them into violent touch with the animals.
When the team played recordings of these different voices through a hidden speaker, they found that elephant family groups showed more fear in response to the voice of a Masai man, than to a Kamba man's voice. And the adult male Masai voices caused far more violent response than the voices of women or boys.

When people want to know about the weather, they usually go to their radios, TVs, newspapers, or to the Internet. However, you can also find many weather signs among wildlife, because of their highly developed senses. Drops in air pressure(压力) produce an effect on small animals in many ways. Mice and deer are good weather indicators. People who spend a lot of time outdoors have observed that, before a storm, field mice come out of their holes and run around. Deer leave high ground and come down from the mountains.
Birds are especially good weather indicators because they also show the effect of a pressure drop in many ways. For example, some birds become irritable(急躁的) and quarrelsome and will fight over a piece of bread. Other birds chirp(叽叽喳喳) and sing just before a storm. It seems they know they won't get another chance for an hour or two. Birds also seek safe places before a storm. You will sometimes see birds settling in trees or gathering together on a wire close to a building. Pre storm low pressure makes the air so thin that birds have difficulty flying.
It is unusual to see many birds flying overhead in the summertime, rather than during the periods in the spring or autumn. Watch for other weather signs if you see this. If they fly in the wrong direction, they may be flying ahead of a storm.
By paying closer attention to some important signs in nature, we can become better prepared for any kind of weather.

Every animal sleeps, but the reason for this has remained foggy. When lab rats are not allowed to sleep, they die within a month.__1__
One idea is that sleep helps us strengthen new memories.__2__ We know that, while awake, fresh memories are recorded by reinforcing (加强) connections between brain cells, but the memory processes that take place while we sleep have been unclear.
Support is growing for a theory that sleep evolved so that connections between neurons (神经元) in the brain can be weakened overnight, making room for fresh memories to form the next day.__3__
Now we have the most direct evidence yet that he is right.__4__ The synapses in the mice taken at the end of a period of sleep were 18 percent smaller than those taken before sleep, showing that the connections between neurons weaken while sleeping.
If Tononi's theory is right, it would explain why, when we miss a night's sleep, we find it harder the next day to concentrate and learn new information—our brains may have smaller room for new experiences.
Their research also suggests how we may build lasting memories over time even though the synapses become thinner. The team discovered that some synapses seem to be protected and stayed the same size.__5__“You keep what matters, ” Tononi says.
A.We should also try to sleep well the night before.
B.It's as if the brain is preserving its most important memories.
C.Similarly, when people go for a few days without sleeping, they get sick.
D.The processes take place to stop our brains becoming loaded with memories.
E.That's why students do better in tests if they get a chance to sleep after learning.
F.“Sleep is the price we pay for learning, ” says Giulio Tononi, who developed the idea.
G.Tononi's team measured the size of these connections, or synapses, in the brains of 12 mice.
