Dear Micheal,
How's your vacation I'm visiting my uncle in Spain. He lives in the sunny and beautiful city of Valencia in Spain.
Yesterday, I had great fun. My uncle took me to the tomato festival in Bunol, which is just 30 miles away from where my uncle lives. You have probably never heard of this festival before. Neither had I. The tomato festival is called "La Tomatina" in Spanish. It was the biggest and messiest tomato fight in the world. When we first got to the square where the festival took place, it was very crowded with people from all around the world, and many trucks were carrying tomatoes. My uncle told me the crowded people here were around 38,000 and this was more than four times the population of Bunol.
The tomato fight started as soon as the first banger was beaten. Then everyone including me started throwing tomatoes at each other. I took red tomatoes and threw them at anyone that ran, moved, bent down, or turned around. Tomatoes must be squashed before people threw them in order not to hurt anybody.
After a little while, the streets, people and nearby buildings were splashed with red. There was no winner in this fight, but we all had fun. As soon as a second banger was beaten, people stopped throwing.
I really had a great time, I wish you were here, too. I hope I hear from you soon. Take care.
With love,
From Spain

Bissell is a village in West Sahara. Before Ken Levin discovered it, people here tried many times to walk out of the desert, but they didn't. He asked everyone, but got the same answer: no matter(无论) which direction you walk towards, you will return to the starting point. However, Ken Levin walked northwards from Bissell, and went out of the desert three days and a half later.
Ken Levin wanted to know why, so he asked a villager to be his guide. He didn't take his compass and followed with only a stick. They walked about 800 miles during 10 days. On the morning of the 11th day, they returned to Bissell.
Ken Levin finally understood: the people of Bissell could not walk out because they didn't know the Pole Star(北极星). In the desert, if a man goes only by his feeling, he will walk in circles of all sizes and the final footprint will probably be a shape of tape. The village of Bissell was in the middle of the desert without a reference. So it was impossible to walk out without knowing the Pole Star or taking a compass.
When Ken Levin left Bissell, he took a young man named Guterl. He told him he could walk out of the desert as long as he walked in the direction of the Pole Star in the night.

How do people find their ways At first, people did it by looking at the sun, the moon and stars. Later, we started to use the compass(指南针).Today, there are navigation satellite systems(卫星导航系统).
A navigation satellite system uses groups of satellites(卫星), they send information to a receiver, such as your smart phone. Then they can find where you are.
The earliest navigation system is the Global Positioning System(GPS)(全球定位系统) of the United States. The US has put 24 satellites into space to make sure GPS can locate a person correctly and globally. Russia's GLONASS and European Union's Galileo can also work globally.
The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) is China's homegrown navigation system. It was set up in 2000. On June 23rd 2020, the last satellite of China’s Beidou Navigation Satellite system was sent into space. Beidou, China’s own navigation system, was finally completed. On July 31, Beidou started providing full-scale global services(全面的全球服务). More than 120 countries and regions (地区) are now using Beidou services. Since 2000, China has sent 55 Beidou satellites.
BeiDou can find you wherever you are. It helps you go faster by finding shortcuts and using correct directions. When you are in trouble and call the police, they will know exactly where you are if you have a smart phone that uses BeiDou.
