Dragon Boat Festival is around the corner. What are you planning to do at the festival Do you know the history behind it
Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duanwu Festival, has a history of over 2,000 years. It is observed annually on the fifth day on the fifth lunar month in memory of Qu Yuan (340 BC–278 BC), an ancient Chinese patriotic poet. Unwilling to see his country conquered by another state, he chose to drown himself in the river. People often eat a special food called rice dumpling on that day, as the legend says that rice dumpling were thrown into the river to stop fish eating Qu Yuan’s drowned body. Dragon boat racing has also become a central custom of the festival.

Both celebrate the start of summer, though the latter takes on other meanings as it develops. The Day of the Dead is similar to the Qingming Festival. Both festivals are celebrated for people to remember their loved ones who are no longer with them.
