When I was a little girl, I remembered that when my dad was repairing something, he would ask me to hold the hammer, so we would have time for a conversation with each other. I never saw my dad drinking or taking a night out. All he did after work was taking care of his family.
I grew up and left home for college and since then, my dad had been calling me every Sunday morning. And when I bought a house several years later, my dad painted it by himself in the fierce summer heat. All he asked was to talk to him, but I was too busy in those days.
Four years ago, my dad visited me. He spent many hours putting together a swing for my daughter. He asked me to have a talk with him, but I had to prepare for a trip that weekend.
One Sunday morning we had a telephone talk as usual. I noticed that my dad had forgotten some things that we discussed lately. I was in a hurry, so our conversation was short. Several hours later that day I received a call. My father was in the hospital. Immediately, I bought a plane ticket and on my way I was thinking about all the occasions I missed to have a talk with my dad. By the time I arrived at the hospital, my father had passed away. Now it was he who did not have time for a conversation with me. I realized how little I knew about my dad, his deepest thoughts and his dreams.
After his death I learned much more about him and even more about myself. All he ever wanted was my time. And now he has all my attention every single day.

A.She had got tired of talking with him. B.She was busy painting her house.
C.Her daughter asked her to play. D.She was busy planning a trip.
4.When did the author begin to regret missing the talks with her father
A.After her father's sudden death. B.Many years after her father's death.
C.On her way to the hospital to see her father. D.As soon as she got the news that her father was ill.
C
Larks are most likely to be healthy, wealthy and wise, according to an old saying.
But those who are early to go to bed and early to rise do not always have the upper hand, researchers say. They have found that night owls are generally brighter and wealthier than those who are able to get up early in the morning.
Experts from the University of Madrid carried out tests on around 1,000 teenagers and found that those who preferred to stay up late proved the kind of intelligence associated with honored jobs and higher incomes. "Larks" or "morning people", however, often acquired better exam results, possibly because lessons are held at the wrong time of a day for night owls. The researchers examined the habits and body clocks of the youngsters to determine whether they liked to stay up late and sleep in later in the morning, or preferred to go to bed early and were at their peak in the morning. School performance and inductive intelligence, or problem solving, were measured and academic grades in the major subjects were also taken into account. The results showed that evening types scored higher than morning types on inductive reasoning, which has been shown to be a good estimate of general intelligence and a strong indicator of academic performance. They also had a greater capacity to think conceptually as well as analytically. Such abilities have been linked to innovative thinking, more admired occupations and better incomes.
Famous night owls include President Trump, Obama, Charles Darwin, Winston Churchill, Keith Richards and Elvis Presley. George W. Bush, who is regularly in bed by 10 p.m.,Thomas Edison, Napoleon, Condoleezza Rice, who wakes at 4:30 a.m., and Ernest Hemingway are among those known as larks. Jim Home, a professor of psychophysiology at Loughborough University, said, " Evening types tend to be the more active and creative types, the poets, artists and inventors, while the morning types are the deducers (推断者), as are often seen with civil servants and accountants." A previous study of US Air Force recruits found that evening types were much better at thinking to solve problems than larks.
1.What does the word "lark" mean in the text
A.A bird of prey that flies in the morning.
B.A bird of prey that is a symbol of wisdom.
C.A kind of person who goes to bed early and wakes up early.
D.A kind of person who has honored jobs and higher incomes.
2.What characteristics do night owls have
A.Night owls are much healthier, wealthier and wiser.
B.Night owls are not good at inductive reasoning.
C.Night owls stay up late and wake up early in the morning.
D.Night owls are expert in analyzing and innovative thinking.
3.From the passage, we can infer that ___________.
A.the early bird will catch the worm
B.morning types have a tendency to do some creative jobs
C.night owls can do better in the examinations if lessons are held in the right time
D.President Trump, Winston Churchill and George W. Bush are models of night owls
4.According to the writer, what kind of job is an evening type likely to do in the future
A.A fashion designer. B.A social worker. C.An accountant. D.A government employee.

The effects of coffee consumption on health have long been a subject of conflict and uncertainty. Since the 1980s, some have spoken out against coffee as it is harmful to health, while others have welcomed coffee for its supposed benefits to health.
According to a scientific report, mild coffee consumption, three to five cups per day, can be taken as a healthy dietary pattern, along with other healthful behaviours. The report also says that coffee consumption helps reduce the risk of heart disease and it protects against Parkinson's disease.
According to Dr Donald Hensrud of Mayo Clinic, high consumption of coffee has health risks. Dr Hensrud mentions the dangers of high coffee consumption for people with a certain illness that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. Some studies say that drinking two or more cups of coffee daily can actually increase the risk of heart disease in these people.
According to conclusions from a recent study led by Dr Gregory Marcus, a doctor from the University of California, San Francisco, daily moderate consumption of coffee, less than 4 cups, is not associated with these issues.
Until the scientific community readies a general agreement on the effects of coffee consumption on human health, it will be up to the individual to decide whether the benefits of drinking coffee are greater than the risks.
When informed of these possible health benefits and harms of drinking coffee, Harwood, a high school student stated, "Even though there might be some negative effects of drinking coffee, for the most part, coffee drinking sounds good for health. Not to mention I need coffee to stay awake."
1.What is people's attitude towards the effects of coffee on health according to Paragraph 1
A.Disapproving. B.Tolerant. C.Doubtful. D.Mixed.
2.What does the underlined word "moderate" in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Personal. B.Slight. C.Reasonable. D.Heavy.
3.What can we infer about Harwood
A.He'll keep on drinking coffee. B.He loves his high school life.
C.He often falls asleep in class. D.He has some health problems.
4.What would be the best title for the text
A.Why People Love Coffee B.How Coffee Affects Health
C.The Culture of Coffee Drinking D.The New Findings of Heart Disease

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
I grew up in a small town where elementary school was a ten-minute walk from my house and in an age, not so long ago, when we children could go home for lunch and find our mothers waiting. At the time, I didn't consider this to be so important, although today it certainly would be. Actually, our lunch time together in the past years had had a great influence on my life before I realized it.
Our lunch time when I was in the third grade will stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had painstakingly practiced my lines with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped on stage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained patiently that she needed a narrator and had written a narrators part to the play, and asked me to switch roles. Her words, kindly delivered, still hurt me especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard. It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine(藤) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions(蒲公英) appearing unexpectedly through the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with small amounts of gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the bushes. "I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds," she said, pulling a blossom up by all its roots. "From now on, we'll have only roses in this garden." I immediately protested, "But I like dandelions. All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions."

第三部分 写作
第一节
答案:
Dear Xiao Wang,
I have received and read your letter, in which you mentioned that you wanted to lose weight by dieting.
It is natural that young girls at your age hope to look beautiful. However, from my point of view, health is more important than beauty. For a student, studying is the first thing to consider while appearance is the second. So do not let others' opinions have an impact on your normal life. Besides, if you do want to lose weight, it is a good idea to do it by getting more exercise, changing unhealthy eating habits and having a good sleep. The most important thing is that you should keep a healthy state of mind, as it will help with your studies, and will also help you overcome difficulties in dieting.
I hope my advice will be helpful to you and I'm looking forward to your next letter.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
"Do you mean that every flower has its own beauty " asked my mother thoughtfully. I nodded without hesitation, as if a second wasted could deprive the dandelions of their life. "The same to you," she added, her voice soft. "Not everyone can be a rose, and it is also an honour to be a dandelion." Knowing that my mother had realized my pain, I took off the musk that I had worn for the whole lunch time and poured out my unease heartily. She listened to me patiently and patted me on the back tenderly. Suddenly she stopped, as if to say something.
Paragraph 2:
"But you will be a beautiful narrator." Mum said. She reminded me of how fluently I could deliver my part at home. It was at that time that I understood that maybe I was more suitable for a backstage role like a narrator. From then on, I practiced my lines heart and soul with my mother at lunch time for weeks. And the performance approached ultimately. Standing backstage, nervousness came flooding in me. What encouraged me to overcome it was the inspiration from the beautiful yellow dandelions. The performance that night was eventually a big success. Hearing the thunderous applause, I took pride in my role and firmly believed that even a dandelion had its own beauty.
