A
The other day I was shopping at a local store when I came across a lady from India squatting(蹲) on the floor and looking for a certain product on the bottom shelf. She stood up quickly when she saw me as if to get out of my way. Feeling sorry, she explained that she was a cashier at a nearby store and was on her lunch break, trying to get a few needed things before her time was up.
I comforted her, "I am in no hurry. Go ahead and do what you need to do. I have plenty of time." While she was searching for something, she said that sometimes customers were rude to her at the store and that she was really thankful for my kindness. I told her that I had noticed cashiers being treated rudely by some people and that those people needed to be more understanding.
She thanked me for being so nice and friendly. I told her, "The world would be a better place if we all acted kindly toward each other. Those who are rude may learn their lesson finally for treating people badly." She nodded and broke into a big smile and covered her mouth with her hand, laughing as she walked away.
It felt so good that I may have helped someone feel better for even a few seconds. In the brief exchange I showed her there are good and kind people in the world and may have added to her belief in humanity(人性). Maybe she thought about that later in the day, perhaps when someone was treating her unkindly.

My roommate Lily was well organised, while I was not. Each of her things had its place, but mine were always hidden somewhere. She even labeled(贴标签于) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Lily got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Lily came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming. "Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!" Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Lily answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled(爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy(同情) rose up in my heart.
Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so lost in my work that I even didn't notice Lily had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression a kind of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, "Thanks."
Lily and I stayed roommates for the rest of the college years. We didn't always agree, but we learned.

Friendships can be difficult—because often people aren't as honest and open as they should be. Sometimes, people end up getting hurt.
Most problems with friendships come up because people are just too selfish to care about the things that their friends need. They care about their own needs much more, which makes it hard for friendships to work. However, being selfish is part of human nature. A person is put together in order to take care of himself and his own needs, not necessarily those needs of other people. Even though being selfish is something that all humans are born with, it is something that everyone should guard against.
The best thing to remember when you are a friend to anyone is that you need to treat your friend the same way as you'd like to be treated. This is wonderful advice for a friendship because it is really the only way to make sure that you are giving your friend everything you would like to be given in a friendship. Whenever you have a question about how you should treat a friend, it is easy to find an answer simply by asking yourself what you would like your friend to do for you, if he or she is in your shoes.
Even if you're always thinking about how you'd like to be treated, and your friends are too, there are issues that come up from time to time in each friendship, and it is important to understand how to deal with these issues so that you can build stronger and healthier friendships. Issues like friends not spending enough time with their friends, or even friends finding new friends and leaving old friends behind. It is important to know how to deal with these issues so that you can keep your friends and make new ones. No one wants to have a broken friendship.
1.This passage mainly deals with _____.
A.the importance of friendships B.the advantages of friendships
C.the problems with friendships D.the meaning of friendships
2.According to the author, problems with friendships may appear when _____.
A.one is selfish B.one is honest
C.one is alone D.one is too busy
3.According to the passage, the first and most important thing to be other people's friend is _____.
A.to treat your friends as fairly as possible B.to give your friends whatever you have
C.not to hurt your friends' feelings D.not to think of your own needs any more
4.The paragraphs following the passage may be about how to _____.
A.make friends B.treat friends correctly
C.keep friends D.deal with friendship issues
D
Thirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends—532, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them.
But is it possible that Kaylee's online friendships could be making her lonely That's what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendships.
Could this be true During your parents' childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not "Words With Friends" on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other.
Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teen sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of this time is spent on social media platforms.
In fact, in many ways, online communication can make friendships stronger, "There's definitely a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other," says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.
Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendships. "If we are constantly checking in with our virtual world, we will have little time for our real-world friendships," says Larry Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today's kids might mistake the "friends" on the social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don't need someone to like your pictures or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.
1.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A.To summarize the text. B.To bring up a discussion.
C.To tell about true friends. D.To encourage online friendship.
2.What does the underlined part "in the flesh" mean in Paragraph 3
A.In person. B.In advance. C.In silence. D.In a word.
3.What is Katie's attitude towards online communication
A.Worried. B.Positive. C.Confused. D.Unconcerned.
4.What view does Rosen hold
A.It's wise to turn to friends online.
B.It's easier to develop friendships in reality.
C.Social media help people stay closely connected.
D.Teenagers need to focus on real-world friendships.

Having a roommate can be one of the best experiences in college or, easily, one of the worst. It all depends on whether you have a good relationship with your roommate or not. Follow the advice to avoid the common mistakes that turn good roommate relationships bad.
◇①_____________
Communication is key. If something happens, sit down with your roommate and have a face-to-face conversation. I've seen roommate relationships fall apart because something happens and instead of talking to each other, the two start complaining about their roommates behind their backs. ②_____________
◇ Don't expect to be the best friends.
Some roommates become the best friends, and some don't. Don't put pressure on yourself or your roommate, especially when you first meet. ③_____________ And if your roommate doesn't end up being your best friend, don't worry.
◇Ask before you take.
This applies (适用) to food, clothes and anything else. If you want to keep a relationship going, show your roommate that you have respect for what is his or hers by asking first. ④_____________
◇Clean up after yourself.
This should be done without saying. Don't be lazy. Or, at least, don't bury your roommate in your clothes and garbage. Most people I've come across in college are dirty and untidy. ⑤_____________ But putting your stuff in order will help you avoid conflict.
A. Talk things out.
B. Always be honest.
C. Even if you both agree to share everything, you should still ask.
D. So you need to think twice before you help your roommate out.
E. This creates nothing but embarrassing situations and unhappiness.

Holly was confused as she opened the birthday present from her best friend, Susan—it was a twelve-by-eight-inch dark blue carpet. Her "thanks" was hardly heard as Holly tried hard not to show her disappointment.
The next morning, I carried a kitchen rubbish bag outside only to find Susan's carpet lying there. I immediately reached in and pulled it out of the rubbish can. After giving it a brushing, I brought it into the house and put it away.
Before Holly's birthday, Susan had been a regular visitor in our home. But suddenly I realized that it had been nearly three weeks since I'd heard the mention of Susan's name. I missed her warm smile very much.
"Susan invited us to go to her house after school tomorrow." Holly said as soon as she arrived from school. From her voice, I sensed she was pleased with the invitation.
We were traveling along the winding country road that led to her house the following day. On the way Susan talked nervously about her foster mom and the seventeen cats they had taken in and cared for.
When we came to a stop, Susan's foster mom—who introduced herself as Glenda—gave us a warm welcome. Susan guided us through the house. She proudly showed us her room, which was only decorated with some shabby used furniture.
I followed Susan's foster mom, Glenda, into the kitchen. After clearing a small area, Glenda poured us each a cup of black coffee with her trembling hand. Then she began to relax as we drank our coffee and chatted about her cats.
Her eyes shone as she showed her fondness for Susan. But her expression turned blue when she referred to the girl's past. In an instant, I came to respect this warm-hearted woman who had opened her home to a younger girl and tried hard to make a difference in her life.

答案:①-⑤ AEFCG
Communication is key. If something happens, sit down with your roommate and have a face-to-face conversation." 故选A。
②由"I've seen roommate relationships fall apart because something happens and, instead of talking to each other, the two start complaining about their roommates behind their backs."
Don't put pressure on yourself or your roommate, especially when you first neet."
If you want to keep a relationship going, show your roommate that you have respect for what is his or hers by asking first."
But putting your stuff in order will help you avoid conflict."

Dear Jemmie,
I quite sympathize with you and understand how you feel. To help you save your friendship, here is my advice.
To begin with, having been friends with him for so many years, you should trust him. Maybe something happened to him or his family. He probably doesn't want you to get involved in it. So it may be a good idea to give him some time to be alone. Then, you can ask another friend to help find out the reason, which is the key to solving the problem.
I hope these suggestions are helpful and that you and your friend are on good terms as before.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
As daylight began to fade, we offered our thanks for the visit and said goodbye. Holly sat quietly in the car on the way home, pressing her forehead against the window as if lost in thought. All the way we didn't say even a single word. No sooner had we come to a stop in the driveway than she threw open the back door and flew straight to the side gate of our house. I followed her silently and my throat tightened as I observed my daughter standing by the rubbish can looking inside. Soon she puffed, paused for a second or two, and walked inside, seeming slightly anxious and irritated.
Paragraph 2:
"Is this what you are looking for " I asked her in a gentle voice as I drew out the carpet from the cupboard and placed it in front of her. She gazed at me with absolute surprise, which soon turned to wild joy. "Thanks. Thank you, Mom, but..." She nearly screamed out when I threw open my arms and hugged her tightly just as she did with the carpet. I could see tears shining in her crystal eyes, a drop or two splashing onto the dark blue carpet. Magically, what she once didn't even want to refer to now turned out to be her precious birthday present.
