Every English learner needs to know how to ask for something in English. There are a number of ways to do this. If you know someone has something, you can ask for it with a polite question. If you don't know, it's possible to ask for something with a yes or no question. Be careful not to use the direct expressions. In other words, don't say “Give me that", but ask kindly as the following examples, “Do you have a pen I could borrow ”“Is there any wine ”“Did you buy any bread ”
If you know or see someone has something, ask a polite question with “could”, “may” or “might". It's also possible to use“can” in some special situations. In the past,“can" was not used
when people asked for something, but meant ability. In the UK, people mainly use “Can you me. . . ”or“Can I have. . . ”In the US,this is still considered to be wrong and "May I have. . . ”
is preferred.
It's common to use"Could you lend/hand/give. . . "You can also use: “May/Can I borrow. . . ”“Could/Can you lend me. . . ”“May I have. . . ”“Could you hand/give me. . . ”Do not begin a sentence with "please",but you can add “please" at the end of the sentence to be polite.

Some people have a very poor sense of direction. Unluckily,I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.
When I was a little girl, I never dared to ask strangers the way. So I used to walk round in circles and hope that by chance I would get to the place I was going to.
Now, I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often receive wrong information. So I try to avoid giving people wrong directions. If anyone asks me the way somewhere,I always say, “Sorry, I am a stranger here. ”
Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual reply. But just as I walked on only a few steps,I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting.
When I just got to my office, the secretary showed in the man who had asked me for directions, Imagine how embarrassed I was and how surprised he was when we saw each other at first sight!

It's important and necessary to be polite in our daily life.Politeness can help us gain respect from others and communicate well with others. In fact,we can't do anything without politeness.
In my daily life, I'm always trying to be polite. Whenever I meet my teachers and my classmates, I always say “hello" to them.Besides, “thank you" or “sorry" is what I say most when others help me or when I do something wrong, What's more, in some special places like the library, I especially follow the public rules and try to be very quiet.
All in all, I think if everyone can do a bit to become more polite, our world will surely be different.
