If you want to travel from Xi'an to Chengdu by train, it will take about 16 hours. But starting this month, the new Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway will shorten this travel time to three hours.
The 643-kilometer line is China's first high-speed railway to run through the Qinling Mountains, which form a natural boundary(分界线) between China's north and south. With a speed of 250 km per hour, it's also the first mountain heavy train line to provide a 4G network. Along the way, the train passes through two areas for rare wild animals—one for pandas and the other for crested ibises(朱鹮).
To reduce the railway's influence on the animals, workers and experts have designed and built the railway to be environmentally friendly. There were 345 wild pandas living in the Qinling Mountains. China currently has 1,864 wild pandas in total, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
To avoid disturbing the pandas, the railway was designed to run through tunnels within the area. Protective shields(防护屏) are placed near the entrance of each tunnel to stop animals from going in.
To protect the thousands of crested ibises that fly near one part of the railway, protective nets have been set up to make sure the birds will not fly into a train.
The nets are about 32 km long and 4 meters high. Experts tested different shapes and materials for building the nets before making their final choice.

Following Christmas dinner, my family was relaxing around the kitchen table. We were discussing the delicious meal we had just had. Dad had risen from his chair and was standing nearby.
My nephew began playing with his new basketball around the table. Upon nearing clad, he stopped. With shakings wrinkled hands, dad had reached out for the ball. He did not speak, and the boy looked at us in confusion. After a few seconds, he carefully passed the ball to Dad. I watched my father closely to see what he would do. A playful smile appeared on his face. Holding the ball and reaching forward, dad bounced it on the floor and then caught it.
This action was repeated. Smiling with satisfaction, he then turned towards us. Gently tossing(投掷) the ball away, Dad began a game of catch.
The ball continued to be passed through pairs of outstretched hands. Cries of "Over here!" rang through the warm kitchen. Dad's active participation in this game was remarkable to me, since he had dementia(痴呆). This disease had robbed him of many memories and the recognition of people, places and points in time. Despite this, dad clearly recognized the ball and what he could do with it.
In my younger years, playing with dad was rare. He worked hard and provided for us, but never showed nor shared much emotion. His favorite game was chess, which he once taught me how to play. But after his illness, connecting moments between father and son had been few before he took the basketball.
I'm not sure how long we played the game. Watching the clock was not important. Dad happily led us until he began to tire. I know that that moment will certainly last forever. This Christmas, dad gave me a special memory一one that I will always treasure.

We live in a digital world now, and a student’s technology needs have changed. For the early years, say when you are in primary school, you can get by with no technology at all. Even if you have a computer, it's a good idea to get children familiar with libraries. At this age, trips to the library are like family outings.
As you get closer to middle school, a computer with Internet access becomes more of a necessity. Teachers will often give assignments that require a student to use the Internet for research. After a computer, technology choices for student s become more difficult to make--especially when it comes to cell-phones. K ids will beg their parents for a cell-phone, especially in middle school. For many parents, it's a safety issue: They want to know that their kids can reach them quickly if necessary. For teachers, cell-phones can be used to record lessons when students are absent. But many teachers dislike cell-phones. Some kids send messages or have talks in the class. Sending messages also raises the problem of cheating on exams. More and more schools are now forbidding the use of cell-phones.
Many kids see iPods as necessary things to have. iPods are great for music, but do they do anything good for your children’s education Maybe they do. That’s the opinion of Doug Johnson, an educator for 30 years. Johnson says that educators should accept all new forms of technology in the classroom, including iPods. “Some do more with their cell- phones than we can do with our laptops, ” he jokes. “I don’t think we should be afraid. The truth is that it ’s easier to change the way we teach than to change the technology habits of an entire generation. ”
1.According to author, primary school children should ______ .
A.go to libraries to read more books

A.They want their children to be cool.
B.They think cell-phones be helpful to their study.
C.They want to keep in touch with their children.
D.They want their children to keep up to date.
3.The following are all reasons why many teachers dislike cell-phones EXCEPT_______.
A.cell-phones can be used to cheat on exams
B.cell-phones can be used to record lessons
C.schoolchildren will send messages during class
D.schoolchildren might talk on them during class
4.We can infer from what Doug Johnson said that_______.
A.cell-phones are not useful to students
B.teachers should let students use cell-phones
C.it’s better for teachers to change their teaching methods

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I worked from the time when I was four and raised seven children, all of them college graduates. It seemed I'd done everything I'd ever wanted to do in my life, but I had one regret. I was born in 1898, the oldest of five kids. Papa couldn't spare me to go to school, so I worked in the fields with him till I was 21 years old.
Everywhere I went, I learned some hard lessons about what happens to a man who even can't read the alphabet. People cheat you oat of wages. They sell you a ticket to one city, take your money and hand you a ticket to somewhere else.
By 1928, I'd been wandering for nine years. I met a woman named Elzenia. We fell in love, married and moved to Dallas, where I got work fixing roads for the city. When Amelia, the oldest of our seven children, first went to school, I took my wife aside. "Elzenia," I said, "I don't want the kids to know I can't read or write."
In 1938, one day my boss called me in. "George," he said, "no one knows those machines like you do. I'd like to promote you." But my thrill and surprise were cut short when he said, "Fill out this application and we'll get you a raise." I couldn't admit the truth. I thanked him and walked out of his office. I did stay right where I was, until I turned 65 and my boss made me retire. But I didn't stop working. For the next 25 years, I lived a happy life, but it still seemed to me like something was missing.
A young fellow handed me a piece of paper. It's information about adult education classes. People can learn to read and write. Now I'm 98. I thought of my friends and neighbours and what they might think if they found out I couldn't read. After all these years, my secret would be out. But all my life I've wanted to read. It was high time for action.

答案:celebrated; takes; the; biggest; with; has been; travelling; happiness; their; what
根据时间状语"Since 2008"可知,本句应用现在完成时,且主语"the Mid-Autumn Festival"为单数,故本空应填has been。

Studying abroad
The topic of my speech today is "Studying abroad".
Attending schools abroad has many advantages. Firstly, by looking at our own country from outside, we can widen our vision and broaden our minds. Secondly, we can visit famous scenic spots and make friends with the local people. Thirdly, we can use the foreign language in our daily life so that our ability in the second language may be improved quickly.
However, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign school. The most serious problem is the language barrier. Most students do not have adequate knowledge of the language spoken there. On arriving there, they find it difficult to understand what the teachers are saying. Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our own country, so most students have to find part-time jobs to support themselves. Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their studies and learn little.
On the whole, it is a good thing to study abroad. However, one must not lose sight of the disadvantages.
Thank you for your listening.
第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
The young man drove me to an old building. I knew it well—it was where all my children had gone to school. I looked into the classroom to get a look at who I would be going to school with the next day. The students all looked like babies to me. There was a lady in her fifties but most of the rest were in their twenties and thirties. I went back to the school the next day. I'd been inside the building so many times before with my children. That old building looked the same, and it smelled the same. But this time it was different because this time it was going to be my school. First came learning the alphabet, then words. In three months, I was reading. It was not very exciting, but I loved it.
Paragraph 2:
I'm still going to school. I didn't stop there. After all, now I know why I'm here. I'm here to learn. I'm here to tell the students it's never too late.
