At 12, my father decided to take me on a trip to France. I had never been out of the country before, so I was very excited. My aunt, my father and I went around with my father showing us all the unbelievable sites in Paris. None of us spoke much French but we loved the city.
We had taken the subway all over the city and were congratulating ourselves on our mastering what is honestly an excellent subway design that is pretty easy to follow. We decided to visit Versailles by train. We chatted happily along the way until my father realized we were far into the French countryside and no one around spoke English.
We reached the end of the line and felt afraid when everyone finally left the train. An old man and his grandchild noticed us and came to help. He spoke no English, so in broken French we tried to explain. When he finally understood t this great man settled his grandson and showed us to the correct train and then boarded with us.
Later we knew the truth that there was a train transfer (转乘)and he didn’t want us to miss it. This kind man rode a train for an hour and a half out of his way to make sure that three Americans got where they wanted to be. He refused to let us pay for his ticket. He did it all with a gentle smile and patted our hands gently at the stop. Then in his quiet way, he boarded the train to return the way he had come.

A crew(全体船员)of six teenage girls completed a nine-day sailing trip in the US recently, after braving seasickness and strong winds.
For the past three years, the Sea Cadet teenagers who set sail were all male. Roger Noakes, who captained(担任队长)the boat, said this was the first time he'd taken out an all-female crew.
The girls asked for an all-girls trip in August this year. The crew set sail along with three adults, Noakes and two Sea Cadet representatives. The original plan was for the girls lo sail 24 hours a day in rotating shifts(轮流换班)along the coast and then return. Things turned out differently, however. "The first night was difficult because the wind was really hard. The waves were going up and down," said Abby Fairchild, 16. "Everybody got seasick." Noakes gave the girls the choice of just sailing in the bay and not going into open water. "But they decided they were going."
The teenagers then sailed a long way overnight and slept in shifts. "We're learned everything from controlling the boat to putting up the sails while we have rough seas," said 15-year-old Olivia Wilcox.
The teenagers stopped on land in Massachusetts. They didn't make it to their original destination (目的地) in Maine, where they were supposed to have a celebratory dinnert due to the weather and winds. I visited Aruba last week. On the first day, I mainly enjoyed comfortable sunshine on the beaches there. But I needed more than sunshine and sand to fill my week.
I rented a car the next day. One of my first stops that day was the Alto Vista Chapel, a historic north-side Roman Catholic church. Just as I entered it, a colourful "party bus" filled with singing tourists pulled into the parking lot, ending the silence. So I left soon.
From the church I made my way to the California Lighthouse, named for the steamship California that sank nearby in 1891. After spending some time there, I went to La Trattoria El Faro Blanco, an Italian restaurant that sits on top of the hill and offers scenic views.
I love golfing, so I wasn't going on vacation without spending a day on the courses. The Tierra del Sol Country Club is for golfing on the islands located at its northwest point. Opened in 1995, it is a beautiful place with views of the sea and the California Lighthouse. I spent a full day there.
To completely escape from the other tourists, I booked a four-hour jeep tour for the fourth day. I went to the Arikok National Park, which covers nearly 20 percent of the islands. I stood on a cliff and looked down on a natural pool that was formed inside volcanic rock (火山岩). It was amazing.
My final night was spent at Madame Janette Restaurant. Friends who had been to Aruba told me I had to go there. I dined there while listening to a local musician performing the Beatles9 While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It was so good and the crowd demanded more.
1.Why did the author leave the Alto Vista Chapel soon
A.Because he didn't like the party there.
B.Because he didn't find a place for his car.
C.Because there were too many tourists.
D.Because some tourists made the place noisy.
2.What did the author mainly do on the third day
A.He enjoyed the views of the sea from a lighthouse.
B.He tasted the local food in a popular restaurant.
C.He played a sport in a club.
D.He paid a visit to a park.
3.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage
A.To introduce attractions in Aruba.
B.To encourage readers to visit Aruba.
C.To explain why Aruba is worth a visit.
D.To share his travel experience in Aruba.
4.How is the passage mainly developed
A.By following the space order.
B.By following the time order.
C.By offering causes and effects.
D.By giving examples.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Laurie sat quietly in the empty dressing room at the ice rink (溜冰场). She had not been skating in any competition since her left knee was badly injured in an accident six months ago. As she waited for her turn to skate, Laurie was very nervous. She knew that today was a very important day in her comeback.
“ If I can win today,” she thought, “I can skate in the World Cup next year and then maybe I can make it to the Olympics.”
Laurie was just told that she had a tough competitor this year, a girl from Connecticut named Jinny who was really strong in everything. “She is the one who you have to beat this year,” said the coach.
Minutes later, the door opened and Laurie saw a young woman who was about her own age. The young woman dumped some of her belongings on a chair. The bag fell onto the floor with a thud(砰的一声).
Laurie felt uncomfortable as she looked at Jinny. “So she is my competitor,” thought Laurie. “ Because of her, I may lose tonight.”
“This costume (服装) was my mom’s idea,” Jinny started the conversation, looking down at her red, white and blue skating dress. “I look like a flag.”
Laurie couldn’t keep from smiling. She pointed to Jinny’s skating bag, “Some stuff fell out of your bag,” said Laurie.
Jinny looked at the clothing and equipment that lay scattered on the floor. As she began to gather her belongings, the door opened.
“Jinny,” called someone, “You’d better give the tape of your music to the sound engineer right away. ”
"I thought I gave him my music tape an hour ago," said Jinny, “Tell him it’s the green box with my initials (姓名的首字母) written in white in the right-hand corner.”
“He said you never gave it to him and he’s getting angry.”
“Then I don’t know what I did with it,” said Jinny, hurrying out.
Laurie knew that music was nearly as important to the program as skating itself. If she lost her music tape, she might as well forget about skating. Laurie stood up and walked to the chair to do a few more knee bends.

第一节
答案:
Dear John,
I am really sorry to hear that you feel bad after entering high school. I'd like to talk about it with you.
In fact, in your high school, your classmates are also new students and facing the same problem, so you don't have to worry too much about it. There is also something that you can do to change this situation. First, try to invite some of your classmates to take part in some activities together after school. This will help you understand each other better. Then, help your classmates when they are in trouble and turn to them for help when you have difficulty.
I believe you will make many new friends and have a happy school life there.
Yours,
Li Hua

When she finished, her coach ran up to her and hugged her. u You did it, Laurie!’’ She said. Laurie smiled and thought about Jinny’s music tape. “No one will ever know how close I really came to losing. ” She said softly to herself.
