If you live in a place where most people speak the language you are learning, you may use the language for several hours each day. So it may become part of your "inner speech". In other words, you start thinking in that language. Your mind stops trying to translate things from your native language into the second language. But most of the English learners live in places where English is not the main language. This may be true for you. You may not have many chances to practice English. You may even be self-taught.
Thinking in English really helps! It is not very difficult, but it does need practice. Here we will share some mental exercises. A good first step is to think in words. Look around you. What do you see In your head, try to name each object in your surroundings. Charles Thomas has taught English for over 10 years. He tells his students to name the things that they see around them, wherever they are.
Another exercise Thomas suggests is describing in your mind objects you don't know the words for. Thomas says, "If you're looking at your house and you see your garage, but you can't think of the name in English. You can say, 'The place inside which I put my car.' or you can say, 'It's next to my house. I keep things there. '"
The next exercise is thinking in simple sentences. For example, if you are sitting in a park, you can tell yourself things like, "It's such a beautiful day" and "People are playing sports with their friends". You can also describe your daily activities. Thomas asks his students to describe their days using the simple present verb form. So, they would think to themselves things like, "I put on my shirt" and "He drives the bus".
How much time should you spend on these exercises Thomas says you do a little every day. "When you make things a habit, then it just pops up into your mind without thinking and then, before you know it, really, you're thinking in English."

English can be a difficult language to learn, but there are certain things you can do to learn the language a lot faster. Here we show you how to quickly learn to speak English.
Start by taking a class that teaches English for beginners. These classes are commonly referred to as "ESL" classes, or "English as a Second Language". The teachers of these classes have the experience to teach a variety of students.
Buy an English audio or DVD course. You can review these classes in your own spare time and learn quite a bit. However, if you are serious about wanting to learn English faster, then you will want to review the course at every opportunity you have. Buy an audio course and listen to it in the car or while working, if possible. The higher the quality of the course is, the faster you'll learn.
Practise speaking English with native English speakers. Make friends with people who do not speak your native language and are willing to help you learn English by having simple conversations with you. You will be surprised at how quickly you can start having entire conversations in English.
Watch television shows or movies that are in English and with no subtitles(字幕) in your native language. Pay attention to the dialogue and try to figure out what the actors are saying. Congratulate yourself when you are able to pick out certain words and phrases that you understand.

Every week in China, millions of people will sit in front of their TVs watching teenagers compete for the title Character Hero, which is a Chinese-style spelling bee In this challenge, young competitors must write Chinese characters by hand. To prepare for the competition, the competitors usually spend months studying dictionaries.
Perhaps the show's popularity should not be a surprise. Along with gunpowder and paper, many Chinese people consider the creation of Chinese calligraphy to be one of their primary contributions to civilization. Unfortunately, all over the country, Chinese people are forgetting how to write their own language without computerized help. Software on smartphones and computers allows users to type in the basic sound of the word using the Latin alphabet. The correct character is chosen from a list. The result It's possible to recognize characters without remembering how to write them.
But there's still hope for the paint brush. China's Education Ministry wants children to spend more time learning how to write.
In one Beijing primary school we visited, students practice calligraphy every day inside a specially decorated classroom with traditional Chinese paintings hanging on the walls. Soft music plays as a group of six-year-olds dip brush pens into black ink. They look up at the blackboard often to study their teacher's examples before carefully attempting to reproduce those characters on rice paper. "If adults can survive without using handwriting, why bother to teach it now " we ask the calligraphy teacher, Shen Bin. "The ability to write characters is part of Chinese tradition and culture," she reasons. "Students must learn now so they don't forget when they grow up," says the teacher.
1. What can we learn about the Character Hero
A. It's the most-viewed TV program in China.
B. It's open to people of all ages and all walks
C. It draws great public attention across the country.
D. It aims to spread Chinese culture to the world.
2. Why are Chinese people forgetting how to write the characters
A. Because Chinese people are using the Latin alphabet instead of the characters.
B. Because Chinese people no longer use brush pens or practice calligraphy.
C. Because Chinese people needn't write by hand as often with the help of technology.
D. Because Chinese people don't refer to dictionaries very often.
3. According to Shen Bin, being able to write characters by hand is _______.
A. helpful to keep Chinese tradition and culture alive
B. a requirement made by China's Education Ministry
C. necessary for adults to survive in China
D. an ability to be developed only when you are students
4. Where does this text probably come from

Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. On turning a comer, Robert cried out, "A fight! Let's go and see!"
"No" said Henry. "Let us go home quietly and not meddle with (管闲事) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together and I don't want them to worry about us."
"You are a coward (懦夫), and afraid to go," said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn't want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him, and that they ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn't invite Henry to go home together with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him.

A
So it may become part of your "inner speech". In other words, you start thinking in that language.
Another exercise Thomas suggests is describing in your mind objects you don't know the words for.
Train your brain to think in English作为文章的标题最能概括出全文主旨。故选C项。
B
For example, I don't use the past tense (过去时). I always say, "I drive him to the office this morning" instead of "I drove him to the office this morning".
I live in an area where everyone speaks my language. My neighbors and friends speak Spanish. I can speak Spanish in the supermarket and at the post office.
Also, my pronunciation isn't good. When I speak, people often say, "What Say that again."
I'm studying hard and I know grammar well, but the vocabulary is very difficult.
本文开篇点出主题: "Here we show you how to quickly learn to speak English."
Start by taking a class that teaches English for beginners."
Watch television shows or movies that are in English and with no subtitles(字幕) in your native language." Read newspapers, books and magazines that are printed in English."
Every week in China, millions of people will sit in front of their TVs watching teenagers compete for the title Character Hero, which is a Chinese-style spelling bee (拼字大赛) 。"可知, 在中国, 每周数百万人坐在他们的电视机前看汉字拼写大赛, 由此可推断它在中国很吸引公众的注意, 故选C项。
2.C细节理解题。根据第二段中的"Software on smartphones and computers allows users to type in the basic sound of the word using the Latin alphabet. The correct character is chosen from a list. The result It's possible to recognize characters without remembering how to write them."
The ability to write characters is part of Chinese tradition and culture,' she reasons. 'Students must learn now so they don't forget when they grow up,' says the teacher."
I'm often asked how to study English effectively"以及下文所列举的几点解决方法可知,答案为D,起到承上启下的作用。

Dear Peter,
I'm glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to learn Chinese well.
Here are a few suggestions. First, it is important to take a Chinese course. Then, it also helps to watch TV and read books, newspapers and magazines in Chinese whenever possible. Besides, it should be a good idea to learn and sing Chinese songs, because by doing so you'll learn and remember Chinese words more easily. You can also make more Chinese friends. They will tell you a lot about China and help you learn Chinese.
Try to write me in Chinese next time.
Best wishes!

第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Just at that moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last minute. By great effort, and with much danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.
Paragraph 2:
Thus, Robert's life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed of having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behaviour and asked for his forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this. Robert learned what true courage was-never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.
