Most kids worry about fitting in at their new school. It's common for a new kid to feel like an outsider for the first few weeks. Although you can be lonely, you can help yourself fit in by being friendly. Even if you are nervous, try to smile, say hello and ask questions.

· The classroom: Look around you. Is there anyone who you can talk to Do you take part in group activities in class If so, try to join a new group every time.
· Playground: Most schools offer many team sports. Try to join these sports.
Some kids worry about their teachers when they start a new school. Even if the teachers are supportive, it can take some time to adjust (适应) to new rules or ways of teaching. It is hard to say the first day of school in the United States because when the first day of school is and what happens on the first day of school usually are different by districts(地区).
The first day of school for many school districts in different states is on the day after the first Monday in September. In some other school districts, school begins in mid-to-late August. For example, the Denver, Colorado schools go back in mid-August and schools in Cleveland, Ohio start back usually one week before the first Monday in September. The Boston, Chicago, New York City and San Diego schools start back on the Tuesday or Wednesday after the first Monday in September.
Schools in Cleveland, Ohio used to start the school year on the day after the first Monday in September, but in the 1976-1977 and 1977-1978 academic years, the school year was affected by several bad snowstorms, extreme cold. In the 1978-1979 school year, the Ohio Department of Education moved the start of the year to late August, one week before the first Monday in September. This went into effect in the 1980-1981 school year.
In most school districts in Utah, the school year starts between August 25 and August 30, and goes until the last week of May or the first week in June next year.
In American high schools, the freshmen class usually goes back one or two days before the rest of the school body for an orientation(迎新) period. An orientation period helps the freshmen get familiar with their new school, its rules, and surroundings.

A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure(安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don't allow their teenagers enough independence.
Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurted if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to learn lesson is through experience. I think it is beneficial for teenagers to have freedom.
Teenagers' lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say that this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don't think so. Instead, isn't this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate better with their friends.
Privacy is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I'm not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.
1.What is the main idea of the second paragraph
A.Kids know how to live independently. B.Some parents allow their kids no freedom.
C.It benefits teenagers to have freedom. D.Kids have a dull routine every day
2.In the opinion of the author, ___________.
A.parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friends
B.good friendships between kids harm their school work
C.it is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphone
D.kids should focus on the school work
3.How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence
A.Disappointed B.Lucky C.Angry D.Calm
4.The author hopes to have her door locked in order to ______________.
A.keep her father from reading her dairy B.prevent her mother entering her room
C.Protect herself from any harm D.Stop thieves from going in
D
I'm an immigrant (移民) from China, and I found that in Quebec I had to learn French, which was a totally strange language to me. After waiting for half a month, I received a letter from my school, St-Luc, and began learning French in a welcome class, which is a class for new immigrants. Even though French was rather hard for me to speak and to understand, I began my secondary five studies the next year.
The first few days were terrible, especially the first class of the first day. Although I had been in St-Luc for one year, I still didn't know much about the school. The first problem that I had was finding my classroom. Luckily, I met a girl who was in my French class and my chemistry class.
After the bell rang, the teacher, Mme. Zarif, began her class. First, she introduced herself to everyone and then gave us the course outline (纲要) for the entire year. During her class, everyone laughed many times. Although I could only understand a little bit, I could tell that she was very funny.
At the end of her speech, to make sure that we didn't forget what we had learned in secondary four, Mme. Zarif gave us a paper with many symbols of elements (元素) on it and asked us to write their names in French. I was shocked (吃惊的) when I received the paper. Honestly, the only symbol I knew was O. After having stared at the paper for a few minutes, I gave up and raised my hand. The teacher came, and I told her that I didn't know anything.
"You have forgotten everything already " she said in a surprised tone. "No," I answered, "I have never learned them in French before. I am from the welcome class." "Oh," the teacher said with a look of understanding. "Come here after school. I will teach them to you."
I agreed. Finally, I handed in the paper with only one answer on it. On the whole, my first day of secondary five was a little embarrassing but, at the same time, interesting.

A. Finding his classroom.
B. Introducing himself.
C. Understanding French.
D. Taking an exam.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
It has been some time since Jack saw the old man. College, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit (追寻) of the dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life. Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.
Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral (葬礼) is on Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel (新闻短片) as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.
"Jack, did you hear me "
"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I’m sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.
"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce (回忆) about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it" Mom told him.
"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.
"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said.
"He's the one who taught me carpentry. I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things that he thought were important. Mom, I’ll be there for the funeral," Jack said.
Busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.
The night before he had to return home. Jack and his mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time, which was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories: every picture, every piece of furniture. Jack stopped suddenly.
"What's wrong, Jack " his mom asked.
"The box is gone," he said.
"What box " Mom asked.
"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most'," Jack said.
It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.
"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said sadly.

I'm writing to tell you something about my new school life. At first, I find it a little difficult to get used to high school life. The subjects we are learning are obviously more difficult. Besides, with endless homework to do, we almost have no time for exercise and other activities. I feel greatly stressed but I'm determined to go through all the difficulties and learn every subject well.
Fortunately, the teachers and classmates are all helpful and kind. And I'm glad to make a new friend—Wang Lin, who is very outgoing and always ready to help others. It was with his help that I overcame my fear of maths and made great progress. I think friends should always help and encourage each other.
