必修五 Unit 5 First aid
单元测试
一、阅读理解
A
Emergencies can happen anytime, so being prepared for a home first-aid kit is important for your family. Having a proper one in your home is an easy but necessary part of good emergency preparation.
Pick a Good Container
One good choice is a large translucent plastic container, which makes it easy to see the materials inside. Lunchboxes are also another good choice. Basically, if it's big enough, portable, and at least somewhat water-resistant(防水的), it can make a good container. Regardless of your container choice, it should be easy to recognize, so write "FIRST AID" on it with a marker.
Make Your Kit Safely Accessible
When your child is crying about a "boo-boo(小伤口)" on his knee, you don't want your home kit buried on the back of a closet or lost because it's not being returned to the same spot after each use.
Teach Your Family About the Kit
For younger children who shouldn't use the items in the kit, teach them where it's located, so they could show a visitor, relative or babysitter. For older children and adults, instruct them how to use the items in it. Use a first-aid instruction booklet, like those available from the American Red Cross for guidance and place a booklet in the kit for reference.
Keep Your Kit Up-to-date
No one wants to fetch a first-aid kit and find the bandage box empty or pain relievers expired(过期的). Keep track of supply amounts and expiration dates regularly.
Create a Checklist in the Kit
Record every item on a sheet of paper and keep it in the kit. Besides, record the amounts of the items and expiration dates next to the listed items on the checklist that you include in your kit. In this way, anyone who wants to reach the kit can immediately know what it includes and doesn't include. Also, he or she can be clear whether the items can be used.
1.What should the younger children be told about the home first-aid kit
A.How to use the items. B.What it contains.
C.Where to place it. D.When to fetch it.
2.What makes it easy to find the items in the kit
A.A marker. B.A checklist. C.A direction. D.A booklet.
3.In which column can you find this passage
A.Life. B.Science. C.Entertainment. D.Culture.

Even now, almost a year after their astonishing act of group heroism, the dozens of people who risked their lives to save two boys from drowning in Panama City Beach, are still remembered.
The story began on July 8, 2017. Members of the Ursrey family, eight in total, were enjoying an evening together at the beach. As the sun sank lower on the horizon(地平线), the two boys—Noah, 11, and Stephen, 8—took their skateboards and walked into the waves without the grown-ups noticing. When the boys were about 70 yards from shore, they realised that the ocean pulled them out to sea. After trying and failing to paddle(踏水) back, they started waving and screaming for help. But the lifeguards had clocked out: for the evening.
The boys had been struggling for several minutes when Brittany and Tabatha Monroe, a married couple from Georgia, wandered by. They didn't see the boys at first, but they heard them.
They jumped into the water and easily reached the brothers, who were still in fairly shallow water. The woman reassured the frightened boys and seized their skateboards, telling them they would be safe and then discovered that they, too, were now in a world of trouble. They couldn't get back to shore and could barely and only occasionally hit the sandy bottom with their feet. After a few minutes, it was clear to the woman that they were all trapped in a terrible whirlpool.
Then scores of tourists were walking to them, hand in hand, forming a line. Soon the first person held the woman's hand. In turn, her husband and the two boys joined her. The long line moved slowly until they were back to the safety of the beach.
The rescuers call it the Human Chain. But it was the deeply "human" aspect of the rescuers' cooperation(合作) that made it so astonishing and successful.

For many years, scientists and animal lovers have worked to make the world safer for endangered species. Now there is something that needs protection from these protected animals—a famous French cheese called Roquefort, known as the "King of Cheeses".
Roquefort is made from sheep's milk in the southern part of the French mountains. Farmers have been making Roquefort for thousands of years, and they follow many rules when making it, to be sure that it's done in the traditional way. One of the rules is that they must let the sheep live freely in the mountains.
However, following these rules has become very difficult. Wolves have moved into the area and they have killed 62 sheep. The wolves are an endangered species, and have not been seen in the French mountains since the 1920s. No one is allowed to kill the wolves, but the farmers are now saying it is impossible for their sheep to live in the same mountains with the wolves. Farmers have dogs to protect the sheep and have also built electric fences, but they say they will not have enough money to continue making Roquefort once they have spent it all in keeping their sheep safe. Many people have said that wolves that attack sheep should be killed, since they have become a threat to the farmers' jobs. Others think that anyone who wants the wolves killed is trying to make them become extinct.
Maybe it would not be a problem if Roquefort became extinct instead, and the wolves were able to live in the mountains. But then the farmers would not have jobs. Will the people of Southern France be able to find a way that protects both the wolves and the King of Cheeses Let's wait and see.
1.What can we learn about Roquefort
A.It is produced in many places in France. B.It has been made in modern ways.

2.What problem do the sheep face
A.They have been endangered since the 1920s. B.They are in danger of being attacked.
C.They are too expensive to feed. D.They are killed by people.
3.What may happen if farmers fight with the wolves
A.They can't afford to make the cheese. B.They have no time to make the cheese.
C.They have no idea how to sell the cheese. D.They can't produce the cheese with high quality.
4.What do people think of the wolves
A.They agree with killing the wolves.
B.They support leaving the wolves as they are.
C.They are divided over the ways of protecting the wolves.
D.They hold different ideas about how to deal with the wolves.

In summer the extreme heat often makes people sweaty and restless. While people are annoyed at it, experts suggest summer is the best season to discharge(排出) your body's toxins(毒素) and recover your energy.
One popular option is the hot-stone massage(按摩). Therapists use smooth and heated stones, usually river rocks, to massage certain parts of the body, or place them on key points of the body. The warmth of the hot stones will improve blood circulation and also help relax muscles, while sweating is also believed to be good for discharging the body's toxins.
Another popular option is the hot-stone bath. The hot-stone bath will help the body discharge toxins and humidity that accumulated during the last winter. Summer is the best season to build a good body. Rather than use water or steam to heat and wash the body, people simply wear a coat or something comfortable, and then lie on heated stone tablets made of hot stones, which are warmed to around 45℃. The body will gradually warm up and blood circulation will also be improved. More sweat will come out quickly. The sweat is smooth and fresh, not smelly like that broke after sports activities. Such bath brings a number of health benefits, such as anti-aging, improved blood circulation and stress relief. The slimming effect of dieting can even be promoted.
Using hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times, but the modern renewal of hot-stone massage is generally credited to Mary D. Nelson, a native of Tucson, Arizona, America, who is the founder of LaStone Therapy.
The therapy is gaining wide popularity with many people, especially those who work in cool air-conditioned rooms. The hot-stone therapy can help cure many health problems, including back pain.

"Lift off in procedure!" announced John as the journey began. Going past meteors, massive stones flew past the cockpit window. "Oh, no!" A jagged rock hit the rocket. The next thing John knew, the rocket was blowing up. The PC screen shone black and red words came up on the screen, saying "GAME OVER"!
"Oh dear, is it that massive rock again " John's father said coming into his bedroom. "Never mind. It's time for tea now anyway. Switch your computer off now, will you "
"OK." John agreed and came down for tea.
"I expect John knows more about space than I do!" John's father commented. He was going on an expedition to an unknown planet that hadn't been visited before.
"It's exciting up there in space!" said John excitedly. "When I'm older, I'm going to be an astronaut!" His father sat down to tea. The fish and chips smelt wonderful and they tasted even better!
John couldn't believe his dad was going into space in two days. He felt excited for him but he was also worried about him. What if a sharp jagged rock killed him up there His baby sister Clare was only two years old. She didn't understand about solar systems and planets yet. She probably didn't know her dad would be the first person to step on the colourful, big planet that hadn't even got a name yet!
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, blast off!" This time, for real! John had butterflies in his stomach as his sister, Mum and he watched the spacecraft hurling itself, ever faster, into space. 五、答案:
Dear Mr Principal,
Our class has studied some knowledge about first aid. We are all interested in it and feel that being able to give first aid when needed can make a difference before proper medical treatment is given.
Therefore, we suggest that courses on first aid should be offered in our school. Posters about the treatment for different injuries can be put up in every corner of our campus. What's more, our school can organize the rescue drills to provide a stage for students to practice and gain experience in first aid.
I believe having a knowledge of first aid is of vital importance. I would appreciate it if you could take our suggestions into consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
六、答案:
Once outside the rocket, the threesome hid their nail varnish(指甲油) so as not to frighten the creatures that lived here. But without the threesome knowing it, four unknown creatures flew above their heads. "I saw them just then," Lara said. Before finishing her words, she was surrounded and taken away to the creatures' base. Only one creature in every pack could speak the languages of all the countries on earth. This one stepped forward and asked, "Where is your nail varnish " Lara pretended not to understand what he said.
Meanwhile, Malcolm and Simon were looking for Lara. They were prepared for the danger on the expedition to the unknown planet but still at a loss what to do as they couldn't find Lara. Just then, a flock of the unknown creatures appeared. They were in jail soon where they met Lara. Though a little worried, they knew they had to take action, otherwise they would be killed. Simon took out his nail varnish and undid the cap. All the enemies that were standing near for a mile were dead. Eventually, they escaped from the jail and came back to Earth, where they were warmly welcomed.
