Critical thinking
What attitudes does the writer have towards peer pressure How do you know
Possible answer:
The writer thinks that peer pressure is harmful and we should fight peer pressure, because at the end of the passage, the writer says that if we give in to peer pressure, the result will be negative. However, if we stop and think about the consequences, we might make a different decision.
Critical thinking
What is your opinion about the writer’s suggestions on how to avoid peer pressure What might be the challenges
Possible answer:
I think the ideas the writer suggests are good. We should choose friends who accept us and won’t try to change us. However, sometimes our classmates try to pressure us into doing things and it can be embarrassing to say “No”. And we are afraid that we might be left out and loose the sense of belonging to our group.
Critical thinking
Do you think peer pressure is always passive Why
Possible answer:
No. I don’t think it is always passive. It depends on how we consider it. When seeing peers around us are much better than us, instead of being anxious, we can regard them as our role model. It’s a good idea to learn from them and push ourselves forward. Taking good advantage of peer pressure will promote our learning and help us grow progressively.

Dear Mike,
Long time no see! I am so concerned about you when hearing that you are being troubled by peer pressure in class. But don’t worry about that too much. Everyone tends to have peer pressure in their peer groups. What it really matters to us is how we deal with it properly. Here are some advice for you.
Firstly, it is super essential to build up self-confidence. Paying special attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right or wrong will help you make your own decisions. Your inner strength will make you stand firmly instead of being influenced. Moreover, it is also vital for you to choose friends carefully and wisely. You should make friends with some positive role models who don’t make fun of you, always support you and is able to find your shining points. Staying with optimistic and hard-working friends will make you a better person in a long run.
Hopefully, my advice may be of use to you. If you have any other problems, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ll always be your side.
Yours,
Li Hua

Critical thinking
Do you agree with the writer’s opinion that attitudes towards introverts and extroverts vary in different cultures Why
Suggested Answer:
Yes. I agree with the writer’s opinion. Because the environment, for example, the geographical features like an island or a vast country, has influences on people’s lifestyles and certain personality traits are more valued in one culture than in another.
Critical thinking
What might be the reasons that people who live on islands tend to be more introverted
Suggested Answer:
Maybe the people who live on islands are more isolated from other people and cultures. And they depend more on themselves.
