When I was a little girl,I remember that when my dad was repairing something,he would ask me to hold the hammer,so we would have time for a conversation with each other.I never saw my dad drinking or taking a night out. All he did after work was taking care of his family.
I grew up and left home for college and since then,my dad had been calling me every Sunday morning. And when I bought a house several years later,my dad painted it by himself in the fierce summer heat. All he asked was to talk to him,but I was to busy in those days.
Four years ago,my dad visited me.He spent many hours putting together a swing for my daughter. He asked me to have a talk with him,but I had to prepare for a trip that weekend.
One Sunday morning we had a telephone talk as usual.I noticed that my dad had forgotten some things that we discussed lately.I was in a hurry,so our conversation was short.Several hours later that day I received a call.My father was in the hospital.Immediately I bought a plane ticket and on my way I was thinking about all the occasions I missed to have a talk with my dad.By the time I arrived at the hospital,my father had passed away. Now it was he who did not have time for a conversation with me.I realized how little I knew about my dad,his deepest thoughts and his dreams.
After his death I learned much more about him and even more about myself. All he ever wanted was my time. And now he has all my attention every single day.

Hey,guys!I have a lot of things I don’t need,so I’m thinking about having a yard sale. What do you think Thank you!
Buffy:
Having a yard sale is not easy. You have to collect things, put prices on them, put them out on tables and then wait for people to come. And usually you have to sell things at very low price. For all that time and work, you make very little money. Why not just sell your things online for higher prices
Debby:
Debby’s right. But I think it’d be even better to just give your things to people who need them.I just sent out a lot of things last week.

For the most part of my life, 1 have lived in a small town in northern Arizona. As I got older, it seemed as if my town got smaller.
All things I could see in the town were bad. It looked ugly , small and was filled with terrible people. I wanted to be in new places with bigger chances and to meet new people. That was exactly what I did. I moved to the city of Phoenix to go to college and worked hard to achieve what I had dreamed of.
For the first year when I was away from home.I wanted to stay away and never go back. When people were taking a trip to my hometown, I would always question"Why would you like to do that It's so ugly." All I had towards my hometown was negative feelings.
However, after being away for about three years, my opinion has completely changed. I have nothing but love for my hometown-its beauty, and the sentimental value(情感价值)that it holds.
After all,it's where I'm from. Yes, there are bad things, but there are also some good ones:Dad raced the train on the way to work; Mum let us stop for ice cream every Friday after school to celebrate the end of the week ;I walked around downtown with friends in high school, thinking we were cool.
It might take being away from something for you to truly appreciate it. It's true when people say that distance makes the heart grow fonder(更温柔的).Now I visit my hometown every chance I get. Even if I am no longer living there, it will always hold a piece of my heart.

My father, who was always drunk and angry, beat me more and more every day. He always locked the door when he went away and kept the key in his pocket. One day l found an old saw(锯子) that he hid in the roof. When I was alone in the house, I started to make a hole on the floor under the big table.
The next day my father said, "Huck, go to the river and catch some fish for breakfast, Quickly! And don't try anything. Remember,I'm watching you!"
While I was fishing by the river , I saw an empty boat nearby.
“A boat!”I thought, happily,"This is my chance to escape. I'll hide the boat near some trees and use it tonight!"
When my father went to town that afternoon , I got my saw and started to work on the hole. It was late afternoon when I finished making the hole.
“I did a good job," I thought, looking at the hole.“Now I'll get my father's gun. I have a plan..."
I looked outside the window and there was nobody there. I quickly escaped through the hole. Then I ran into the woods to hunt a wild pig. Luckily, I found one. I shot it and took it back to the house and let the pig's blood fall on the wooden floor of the house. Then I pulled some of my hair out and put it on my father's ax(斧子)with some of the pig's blood. I took the pig's body outside and put it in a big bag with some rocks, and threw it into the river.
“This way people will think_______!" I thought."They'll come and look for my body in the river."" This idea made me smile.
I waited until it was dark and got into the boat and went to Jackson's Island.I knew about Jackson's Island because Tom,Ben, Joe and I had a lot of fun adventures there.

Animals are our friends. Sometimes they make trouble, but sometimes they can help us. And they hope to live a happy life, too. Here are two real stories from our readers.
The first story is from Ray."My cat, Tiger, hates it when I use my iPad because it takes my attention away from him. One year, I had a fall at home and was on the floor for 16 hours. During this time, I was unable to move and couldn't get to the phone to call for help. Tiger stayed by my side until he disappeared under my bed.'What's he up to ’I wondered. To my surprise,he started to push something towards me. It was my iPad, which I didn’t realize had fallen off the bed and onto the floor. He probably didn't know what it was, but he knew that it made me happy. Thanks to Tiger,I was able to communicate with my friend,Becky, who then told my doctor."
The second story is from Colin." Years ago,my friend Julius saved a bird—a wild Mom cockatoo(鹦鹉)from the side of the road and kept her as a pet in a big cage(笼子)..She lost one of her wings,so she was unable to return to the wild. Soon, two wild cockatoos came visiting and one Dad bird wanted to find his way into the cage. The Mom cockatoo in the cage was soon expecting. But as she couldn't fly.Dad cockatoo built a home in the tree, keeping off everyone who got close to Mom cockatoo.Baby cockatoo would spend his days flying off with his dad, leaving his mom behind. She would sit and wait until they returned home each afternoon. The family stayed together happily."
