语法:同义词和反义词
同义词是意义相近或相同的词;反义词是意义相对或相反的词。英语是世界上同义词最丰富的语言之一。据统计,英语语言中同义词、近义词的数量约占总词汇量的60%。虽然英语同义词数量庞大且错综复杂,但大体可分为两大类:完全同义词和相对同义词。
完全同义词在任何一种语言中都是寥寥可数的,因此,绝大多数同义词还是相对同义词。这些相对同义词的词性、词义、结构或用法等的相同或相近会造成一定的困惑。因此,掌握一定的辨析技巧,才能做到事半功倍。
辨析同义词的方法:
我们一般从三个方面进行区分,即语法、语义和文体。语法主要是词性、搭配、句式等的区分;语义主要是词义的本义、引申义、比喻义等的区分;文体主要是正式和非正式、褒义和贬义等的区分。
例如:“说”
speak (说话): to use your voice to say sth.
say (说): to speak or tell sb. sth., using words
remark (谈论): to say or write a comment about sth./ sb.
state (陈述): to formally write or say sth., especially in a careful and clear way
narrate (讲; 叙述): to tell a story
address (演说; 演讲): to make a formal speech to a group of people
tell (说): to express sth. in words
talk (说话; 讲话; 谈话): to say things, to speak in order to give information or to express feelings, ideas, etc.
chat (闲聊; 闲谈; 聊天): to talk in a friendly informal way to sb.
whisper (耳语; 低语; 私语; 小声说): to speak very quietly to sb.so that other people cannot hear what you are saying
gossip (传播流言蜚语; 说三道四; 说长道短): to talk about other people's private lives, often in an unkind way
