本模块以Great Scientists为话题,旨在通过模块教学使学生通过了解古今中外不同领域的科学家的生平经历以及他们的卓越贡献,阅读袁隆平和Stephen Hawking的事迹,使学生树立正确的人生观、价值观。并根据学生的已有知识,指导学生发表对伟大科学家的了解和看法,通过进一步讨论使学生树立为了全人类的发展而努力的远大理想。能根据关键词写出伟大科学家的事迹,并能够准备出一位著名科学家的传记。

Step I Grammar 1This class we are going to review passive voice and learn to use “by+ -ing form”. First I’d like you to turn to Page 33 and read the sentences in the first part on this page and then answer the questions after them.Sentence a is in the present simple passive voice.Sentence b and c are in the past simple passive voice.Sentence d refers to the future. Sentence e is in the present perfect.Sentences c and e are easy to transform into active voice. That’s because they both contain “by + n.” which can be used as subjects of the active voice sentences.根据例句归纳各种时态的被动语态结构。1. Our teachers are respected by us.2. He will be beaten by me.3. Last Tuesday he received a letter from the local police. In the letter he was asked to call at the station. 行文的需要6) The crude oil is heated and passed into a distillation column. 科技文体中多用被动语态Leave enough time for the Ss to do the exercise, then check the answers all by themselves, talking about the important ones if necessary. Step II Grammar 2Turn to Page 35, look at Part 1 and then decide which one you will choose.He thought he could produce more rice by crossing different species of plant.Which question did the sentence answer 1) What could he produce 2) Why should he produce more rice 3) How could he produce more rice No. 3. Here “by crossing different species of plant” is used as adverbial of manner. Now please look through Part 2 quickly to rewrite the sentences, by changing the underlined phrases with a phrase beginning with “by + -ing”. Answers:1. Yuan Longping changed agriculture in China by discovering a new type of rice.2. Researchers learn things by carrying out experiments.3. They built a better engine by changing the design.4. You will become a better pianist by practicing often.5. We can be happy in the present by planning for the future. Conclusion: by + -ing form 结构可以和从句相互转化;使用by+ -ing form 可以使句式简化。 Students think and answer the questions. 锻炼学生的观察能力。
