引导词 用法 举例
when 所引导的时间状语既可以是时间点，也可以是时间段，因此从句中的谓语动词既可以是终止性动词，也可以是延续性动词 When I was cooking, my mobile phone rang.当我在做饭的时候，我的手机响了。(cooking为延续性动词)
Henry was trying to pick it up when it bit him again.亨利正要捡起它时，它又咬了他一口。(bit为终止性动词)

引导词 用法 举例
when 所引导的从句的动作可与主句的动作同时发生，也可在其前发生，此时从句或主句的时态不再用进行时 Call me when you finish your homework.你写完作业后打电话给我。(finish在call前发生)
如果主句用过去进行时，从句用一般过去时，强调了从句动作发生的突然性 I was playing computer games when my father got home.我正在玩电脑游戏，我爸爸(突然)回来了。

既可以表示主句的动作在从句的动作进行的期间发生，也可以表示两个动作同时在进行，此时主句和从句的动词都为延续性动词 My mother was cooking while I was doing my homework.当我在做作业的时候，我妈妈正在做饭。(cooking和doing同时在进行)

当从句表示的事件只是交代主句动作发生的背景或条件，并不强调从句的动作时，只能用as，此时as意为“随着” As years go by, China is getting stronger and richer.随着时间一年年过去，中国变得越来越富强。
