Are you worriedabout moving up to senior high It can be a new experience, but you shouldn’t worry. We’ve put together a guide on how to survive the first week.
You’re not alone!
Remember: everybody else in your year is on the same boat. They may not realize it, but they’re just as nervous as you
are. Moving to senior high is an opportunity, not aproblem.Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and
learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help!
If you are unsure what to do or are worried about anything, then you had better ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a "friends system". If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. They will look out for you and help you if
you have any problems or questions.
All change.
There are lots of differences between junior high and senior high. You’ll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down
so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days youwill have your different subjects.
Other points:
If you’ve got an elder brother or sister at the school then ask them for advice.
Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.
Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find easier to get up in the morning!

Since graduating from middle school, this year's new 9th-grade class is adapting to(适应) the challenges of high school, a difficult process(过程) for many students. Some of the challenges the students must get used to are the increasing difficulty of school-work, the amount of homework, and the change in the grading system among other things.
"It's a bit harder than middle school, but that is to be expected from every ongoing year," David Palacios, a 9th-grade student, said.
Adaptation is also influenced by stories the freshmen hear before entering. These stories create a negative(消极的)idea of high school, as they are usually bad stories about classes, teachers, or other topics.
“Stories I’ ve heard of high school are exaggerated(夸张的), "Palacios said.
The school is fighting against students' fear by providing information about high school, even before they enter. This year, the 9th-grade class entered school on August 8 one day earlier than other high school students. This was done to help the freshmen by solving any doubts they could have. "In general, they adapt well, because since middle school they have been given some information on what high school is," Ana Isabel Garcia, a high school advisor, said.
The changes faced in 9th grade are more challenging than those found in middle school. However, after experiencing the first two months of 9th grade, many 9th graders agree that 9thgrade is not as hard as they thought it would be.
"It's not that different from middle school," Palacios said.
High school is harder than other grades as it’s the final step students take before they enter the real world. Students must see the important role high school plays as it teaches them many skills that will help them improve their future."They do well because they come in with a good attitude(态度)and wish to adapt well, ”Garcia said.
4.What did Palacios think of the freshman challenges
A.They happened as expected.
B.They were hard to fight off.
C.They would disappear soon.
D.They mostly focused on grades.
5.Why did Palacios's school require the 9th graders to enter the school on August 8
A.To show them around the campus.
B.To help them deal with their nervousness.
C.To let them experience high school life in advance.
D.To avoid them hearing bad stories about high school.
6.What kind of feeling did Garcia express in her words
A.Shock.
B.Worry.
C.Annoy
.D.Satisfaction.
7.Where is this text most likely from
A.A personal diary.
B.A travel guide.
C.A news report.
D.A letter.

A lecture hall should be like a church—a little too dark, much too cold, and uncomfortably silent. You should feel guilty opening your water bottle because all 200 people in the room can hear it.
So when I'm trying to pay attention, the last thing you should be doing is carrying on a conversation about your last
weekend party or anything else.
During the past school term, I've had enough. One of my biggest complaints of large class sizes is the tendency for three to five friends to sit together and loudly speak in each others’ ears for an hour and 15 minutes straight. My stupid monkey
brain can't help but focus on your conversation about the difference between ash blonde and light blonde colored hair that look exactly the same.
To me, it just feels like a waste. You're actively wasting money, and missing vital information. We(and the government) pay quite a lot for our education, but you are here to ignore someone significantly more experienced than us, in classes we picked, for hours every week.
I know major requirements can be boring, but this is still an education. It requires two-way effort. Most students here have at least one goal in common: success. Not every checkpoint on that path is going to be filled with joy. Sit down, shut up, and force yourself to listen to your professor. Society tells us it will eventually pay off.
Or maybe it won't because you don't want to. I actually don't care if you decide to pay little or no attention to the lecture itself, so long as you're not being disturbing.
For those willing to try, in 20 years when you finally pay off your debt with your fairly secure white-collar job, you'll look back and be happy that you went through the lectures.
8.Why is a lecture hall compared toa church by the author
A.Both places are open to the public.
B.Both places help rid people of their guilt.
C.Both places can seat over 200 people.
D.Both places are supposed to be quiet.
9.What can we infer about the author from the passage
A.He likes persuading others.
B.He tends to make complaints.
C.He values education as a duty.
D.He cares much about friendship.
10.How does the author feel when writing the passage
A.Delighted.
B.Annoyed.
C.Thrilled.
D.Worried.
11.What may be the best title for the text
A.Hard Work Pays Off!
B.Focus on the Lectures!
C.Wasting Your Time Is a Shame!
D.Mind Your In-Class Behavior!
D
I come from a family that loves sports. My father coaches Little League baseball. My mother swims nearly every weekend. My brother is on his high-school basketball team, and I am the best hitter on my middle-school volleyball team. All of us have benefited from sports. One of the most common ways for kids to take part in sports is to join a team. Joining a sports team should be a school requirement.
Playing sports is good for both the body and mind. Everyone knows that exercise helps people stay fit. For example, swimming helps your heart work better and it also helps build muscle strength(肌肉力量),In addition, school athletes (运动员) often have a healthy diet. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and avoid fatty foods because I must stay in great condition.
Being on a team allows students to enjoy a healthier social life. They often make more friends and can be some of the most popular kids in school. Since joining the basketball team, my brother has made friends with a lot of his teammates and has showed more interest in spending time with them.
Kids who take part in school teams sometimes earn college scholarships(奖学金).My brother’s friend,Justin, played football in high school. His family did not have money to send him to college. However, a college invited him to play on its team. The college is paying for him to go to school.
Joining a team turned out to be one of the best decisions he had ever made. Now he studies at a great college and plays on its football team. Not every school athlete gets a college scholarship, but joining a school team makes it possible.
Although some people may not like the idea of forcing students to join a school team, its many benefits such as keeping kids healthy, new friendships, and possible scholarships cannot be denied(否认).
12.What does the author mainly tell us in Paragraph 2
A. Joining a school team has health benefits.
B. Students should spend more time exercising.
C. Swimming is an excellent sport for students.
D. School athletes must try to eat a healthy diet.
13.How did the author’s brother change after joining the team
A. He had a busier life.
B. He got more chances.
C. He worked much harder.
D. He became more sociable.
14.What can we infer about Justin
A. He is a good football player.
B. He will be given a scholarship
C. He is managing a school team.
D. He comes from a wealthy family.
15.What is the author's attitude to making students join school teams
A. He doubts it.
B. He is in support of it.
C. He is worried about it.
D. He pays little attention to it.

Exam Anxiety
Has this ever happened to you You've been studying hard for your midterm, but when you walk into your exam, your mind goes blank, your heart races fast, you get sweaty palms and find it hard to breathe. _______16________
Everyone feels anxious during exams. Usually, it results from a fear of failure, lack of adequate preparation time and bad experiences taking tests in the past. This is normal and often helps you work harder, think faster and generally improve your performance._______17________ You may also feel that other people are managing the exam better than you. This can cause you to feel that your mind has "gone blank" on information you know you have revised.
_____18______ Some choose to ignore the problem, while others don't review because they think they will do badly anyway and even miss exams due to the anxiety. It can also be really easy to think that if you don't try and then you fail, you won’t feel as bad as if you fail after trying really hard.
So what can you do to fight against the negative mindset and stay calm before and during your test _____19____ Yes, this seems obvious ,but it's worth repeating. If you feel confident that you've prepared thoroughly, you'll feel more confident walking into the test. The second tip is simple: just start.
The blank page can maximize your anxiety. ______20_____ You can always go back and change things later if needed, but a few quick answers can get the ball rolling. Besides, allocating your time is equally important. Look through the whole test before getting started. Mentally allocate much time you'll spend on each section. If there's time to recheck, even
better.
A. After you get the paper, dive right in by getting some questions done to build up your confidence.
B. However, if you are overly anxious about the result, you may be unable to focus on your work.
C. Realizing time is almost up and that there's still a lot of blank space will make you desperate.
D. Therefore, people need an appropriate amount of pressure to help deal with exams.
E. If these classic signs of exam anxiety sound familiar, you're not alone!
F. People often deal with exam stress in many unhelpful ways.
G. The first thing you should do is to be prepared.

A
根据画线句后面的”… but they’re just as nervous as you are.”
由第三段第二句“Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students.”
结合第一段中的“We’ve put together a guide on how to survive the first week.”
根据第二段中的“It’s a bit harder than middle school, but that is to be expected from every ongoing year” 可知,Palacios认为新生挑战如期望的那样发生
根据第五段中的“This was done to help the freshmen by solving any doubts they could have.”
根据第六段中的“In general, they adapt well, because since middle school they have been given some information on what high school is'”和最后一段中的“They do well because they come in with a good attitude and wish to adapt well”可以推出,Garcia在她的话里表达了一种满意的感觉。
文章第一段中“Since graduating from middle school, this year’s new 9th-grade class is adapting to the challenges of high school,a difficult process for many students..”
Alere all should be like a church-a little too dark,much too cold,and
D"Both places are supposed to be quiet..(两个地方都应该安静)"符合。
根据第四段中的“You're actively wasting money, and missing vital information. We(and the government) pay quite a lot for our education, but you are here to ignore someone significantly more experienced than us,in classes we picked, for hours every week.” C “He values education as a duty.(他将教育看作一种责任)"符合。
l0. 根据文章倒数第二段“I actually don't care if you decide to pay little or no attention to the lecture itself,so long as you’re not being disturbing.”
通读第二段,尤其是根据“Playing sports is good for both the body and mind. Everyone knows that exercise helps people stay fit..(做体育运动对身心都有好处。每个人都知道锻炼可以帮助人们保持健康)”可知,本段主要告诉我们的是参加学校的运动队对健康有好处
l3. D细节理解题。根据第三段的“my brother has made friends with a lot of his teammates and has showed more interest in spending time with them.”
根据最后一段的“.its many benefits such as keeping kids healthy, new friendships, and possiblescholarships cannot be denied..”
l6. E由上文“.your mind goes blank, your heart races fast, you get sweaty palms and find it hard to breathe..”
l8.F由下文“Some choose to ignore the problem, while others don't review because they think they will do badly anyway and even miss exams due to the anxiety..”
l9,G由上文“So what can you do to fight against the negative mindset and stay calm before and during your test ”和下文"Yes,this seems obvious, but it‘s worth repeating. If you feel confident that you've prepared thoroughly, you'll feel more confident walking into the test. The second tip is simple: just start.”可知,本段在讲处理考试焦虑的方法,该空指的是第一个方法:为考试做准备。承接上下文,G选项“你应该做的第一件事就是做好准备”切题。
20.A由上文“The second tip is simple: just start.. The blank page can maximize your anxiety.”
