Dear Andrew,
I’m writing to ask for your help. Our school English corner is going to hold an English textbook drama show.
Our group has signed up for it.
Our show is from Act 2 Scene 1 of The Million Pound Bank Note. In this scene,Henry experienced the
power of the million pound bank note. We’ve practiced a lot, but we are still not sure about the lines, facial
expressions and the costumes. Our next rehearsal is scheduled at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday in the school stadium. I
really hope you can come and give us some guidance.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,

第二节:
Paragraph 1:
Margaret left in a hurry. Within half an hour, having found a taxi, took Penelope from home and David out
of his classroom, she was back again. The old man stared at the children, asking “Are they noisy ” “Not really.”
“But I like them noisy and that’s all.” He was obviously pleased. Margaret and her children moved in next day. It
was a Saturday, and as Margaret settled her few pieces of furniture, the children enjoyed themselves in an exciting
new playground.
Paragraph 2:
Down below, their landlord was busy with his writing, relaxed. He could hear Penelope hammering
something on the floor above. It sounded as if she was trying to get through to him by the way of the ceiling.
David was on the landing at the top of the stairs making the noise he used for a jet plane, a bomb exploding, or a
cowboy letting go with a couple of six-shooters. This was what, in five years, he had become used to, which made
him feel cosy and peaceful.

【听力录音原文】
Text 1
W: Today is the cleaning day, remember I'm going to clean the truck, sweep the kitchen floor and wash the
dishes.
M: I already did the dishes and the floors. I woke up early so I could relax the rest of the day.
Text 2
W: You'll need a new suit for the wedding. Your parents and your sister always dress well.
M: Don't try to compete with my sister. She wastes money on clothes.
W: Women need nice clothes. You wouldn't have married me if I hadn't looked nice.
Text 3
W: Why do you have three dustbins Are they all yours
M: Yes. The blue one is for things that can be recycled. The brown one is general waste, and the green one is
garden waste like branches and grass.
Text 4
M: There's a bird in the garden and it can't fly. I think it's injured. Should we help it
W: Perhaps it's young and hasn't learned to fly or it's old and struggling to fly.
M: No, look! The cat is attacking it. I'll go and rescue it.
Text 5
M: Oh, you got the last one. I wanted that. The melons here are always the best.
W: Yes, they are. The local shop is more convenient and the supermarket is cheaper but you can't beat the market
for taste.
Text 6
M: Mom, could you tell me how to cook
W: Sure. But I've told you many times to learn to cook and you were always unwilling to do it. Why do you offer
to learn it now
M: I have invited my classmate, Susan, to our house. I want her to taste my cooking.
W: Neither your father nor I have tasted any of your cooking. Susan is a really lucky girl.
M: I promise I'll cook for you tonight if you don't mind.
Text 7
M: Hi, Kelly. Would you like to continue renting the apartment
W: Yes, I would. The apartment is great and it's within walking distance of my work.
M: Fantastic. But, I have to tell you, I'll need to raise the rent by 10%.
W: 10% is really high, Joe. To be honest, that's higher than the raise I get from work.
M: Well, it is downtown, has nice surroundings, and a great view.
W: I understand. Can you give me some time to think about it
M: Of course. Just let me know a month in advance.
W: Sure, I'll let you know in two weeks.
Text 8
W: Good morning. I'm the new assistant editor, Lisa. This is my first day at work.
M: Good morning! Oh, it's only 8:30. You are 30 minutes early.
W: I just want to get familiar with the work environment.
M: OK. This is your desk, your computer and this is your telephone. You can make personal calls during office
hours, but you mustn't chat over the phone. By the way, it's unacceptable for you to leave the office without
permission.
W: I've got it.

M: This is your time card. Remember to check in and out on the first floor when you are on and off duty. If you
forget, you will be fined 20 dollars every time. And you will be fired if you forget three times in a month.
W: How about lunch
M: The lunch is free on the second floor.
W: OK, I see.
M: When you settle down, I'll show you around and introduce you to the chief editor on the fifth floor.

W: Yes. We are calling it the green campaign.
M: Oh, green! I guess this campaign is related to the environment.
W: Yes, of course. All participants in the campaign will wear green because we want to tell people about the bad
effects of pollution.
M: That seems great! Can you give me more details about your campaign
W: Sure. The first day we will clean up garbage at school. The following day we'll plant some trees. Then we will
hang some posters on the school board.
M: Interesting! I'd like to help you in your campaign. I have an idea.
W: Yes, go ahead. What is it
M: We may ask our teachers to help us in our campaign by not bringing their cars to school.
W: It's a good idea.
M: Also we might paint some paper, bottles and lamps and use them as decorations for our classrooms. I'll invite
George to join us. He's ready to help, you know.
W: Wow! Great, Peter! Thank you so much for your help.
M: You're welcome.
Text 10
Welcome to Brian's Club Center. You're sure to enjoy yourself here. Everyone here can experience healthy living.
Only fruit, vegetables, fish and chicken are served here. No red meat. As for the alcohol, we only provide red wine.
You're allowed to have one glass at lunchtime.
We must always keep in mind that exercise is important. However, it can also be harmful if you don't know what
you're doing. So we make everyone an exercise plan here. Mostly it's light exercise, such as walking and t'ai chi.
Swimming is also encouraged.
You can also enjoy entertainment here. But you may have found that there is no TV in any of your rooms. It
doesn't mean that we don't want you to relax. It's just that we prefer you to relax in the garden, or chat in a group
instead of watching TV inside.
Besides, you can see every day's newspapers here. If you'd like the newspaper to be sent to your room each
morning, please tell the people at the reception area. Reading is encouraged. There are lots of books in the library,
all of which can be borrowed free of charge.
If you want to know more information, please ask us!
Thank you!
