Identifying Topic Sentences and Supporting Details
A topic sentence states the general idea or the main point of a text or paragraph. Supporting details give more information about the topic.
Read the text to get the general idea.
Identify one sentence for each argument that states this general idea. This is the topic sentence.
Read the text again. Look for eatral information that supports the topic sentence, e.g. examples, reasons. There are the supporting details.
