Everyone wants to be happy. You see people who are smiling and laughing, and you want to be like them. There are good days filled with sunshine and smiles. 41 Here are three ways to make you happier every day.
Smile often. Research has shown that the facial expression you wear influences your state of mind. 42 Wearing a pleasant expression for a long period of time will slowly improve your feelings and help you have a happier day.
43 The more you complain (抱怨), the more annoyed (恼怒的) you become. If all you notice or talk about during the day are the things that annoy you, it is no surprise that you are unhappy. To truly increase your long-term happiness, don’t complain any longer. 44
Practice thankfulness. Thankfulness has been shown to be the last ticket to a happy life. The more you practice thankfulness, the more you will find things to be thankful for in your life. 45 Even something as simple as a safe place to sleep or food to eat is worth being thankful for because not everyone is lucky enough to have those things.
A. Have a whole day without complaining and see how you feel.
B. Stop complaining.
C. However, there are also bad days.
D. If you try to smile, you are more likely to be happy.
E. This then leads you to realize how much goodness is in your life.

Griffin, a grey parrot, was the subject of a recent study published on May 6 in the journal Scientific Reports. Researchers challenged Griffin to a memory game the Shell Game. He had to locate a colorful pom-pom (小绒球) hidden under a plastic cup after it was shuffled (打乱次序) around a table several times.
Griffin was taught to reproduce some 30 English words and to understand at least 40, including the names of colors. Griffin didn’t need any special coaching to learn the Shell Game.
21 Harvard students were given the same task. And Griffin outperformed them in 12 of 14 experiments. Besides the Harvard students, 21 young kids also took part in the Shell Game. At first, the participants (参赛者) were asked to memorize the positions of just two pom-poms hidden under two cups, which were never moved. By the end of the day, the participants had to keep track (路径) of four different colored pom-poms under four cups, which were shuffled four times. Following the shuffling, participants were shown a pom-pom from a separate group and asked to find the matching color under the cups.
Griffin was able to find the right pom-pom with higher accuracy than the children in all 14 experiments. The Harvard students’ performance started to become worse when three pom-poms were shuffled three or four times. But Griffin continued to hit his targets 100% at that time.
