教学过程
教学环节 主要教学活动 设计意图
Step I. Activate and share 1. T introduces the topic of the lesson by presenting some quotes for Ss to guess the occupation. Then ask the questions “What qualities does a good teacher have ”. T gives three possible patterns to help Ss to talk about their teachers’ qualities. To introduce the topic of the lesson “Teachers” and review some of the expressions on personality traits from the previous Topic Talk.
Step II. Read and explore 2. Ss read the two texts for the first time, and tell what are they mainly about. 3. Ss read the first text for the second time, and find the information on the following questions: -What was Graham like before he met Mr Jenkins - What was Graham like after he met Mr Jenkins -How did Mr Jenkins did his teaching Ss read the second text for the second time, and find the information on the following questions: -What was Mr Jenkins’ impression of Graham before they met and after they met -What are Mr Jenkins’ beliefs in teaching To have a general understanding of the two texts. To acquire the specific information according to the requirements.
Step III. Think and share Ss think about the following questions -What made Graham a successful person Find evidence from the texts to support your opinion. What makes Mr Jenkins a good teacher List one or two qualities and give your reasons. Which one of Mr Jenkins’ beliefs in teaching impresses you most Choose one to talk about. To build deep thinking skills: integrate, analyze and evaluate the information.
Assignment 1) Practice reading the two texts aloud. 2) Complete the after-class worksheet. To consolidate what is learned in class.
