Teaching objectives:
Knowledge Objectives: students are able to learn the rules and usage of superlative
degree by doing some tasks.
Ability Objective: students are able to use -est or most structure orally by the end of
the class.
Moral Objectives: 1. students can develop the spirit of teamwork by working with
group members.
2.Students are able to use the target language to talk about the best things in
hometown and to show their love to our hometown.
Important points and difficult points
Important points: to master the rules and sentence structures of Superlatives.
Difficult points: How to master the rules and sentence structures of superlatives;
How to describe our hometown by using the superlatives.
Teaching methods and learning methods
Teaching methods: Situational teaching method; Task-based Teaching Method;
Competition-approach Method; Inductive Method
Learning methods: Independent learning method; Cooperation method; Competition
learning method.
Teaching aids
PPT, video, computer,cards,some gifts and so on.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warming up
1. Greet the students as usual and create a situation: My friend Lucy comes to China and brings some gifts to us. (Prepare some kinds of gifts for the students before the lesson).
2. Let students find the gifts and ask them the questions:
Who gets the ruler
Who gets the longest ruler
Who gets the apple
Who gets the biggest apple
Who gets the sweetest apple
Who gets the balloon
Who can blow the biggest balloon
Who gets the box
Who gets the heaviest box
Who gets some pictures of different countries
Which country has the largest population
T should write down the superlatives on the blackboard during this activity.
Purpose: To motivate students’ interests in this lesson and to help the students review the superlative degree.
Step 2 Find the rules
1. Create a situation: Lucy is new here, she wants to see a film and travel around the city , so let’s help her.
2. Look at the screenshots(截图)and ask the students to help the teacher find the best movie theater in Jingzhou by asking them some questions:
Which is the best movie in jingzhou (most popular)
Which is the closest movie theater from our school
Which is the cheapest movie theater in Jingzhou
T should write down the superlatives on the blackboard during this activity.
3. Find the rules. Look at the words on the blackboard and guide the students to
conclude the rules of superlatives degree.
4. Group competition: divide the students into six groups and let them add more superlatives in 1 mins.
Purpose: to guide the students to find the rules of superlative degree in an interesting way and check what they have learned by competing with groups.
Step 3 Watch a micro-lesson
1. Watch a micro-lesson and take notes on the usage of superlative degree.
2. Game: choose an apple. And then finish the tasks about Jingzhou by using the structure of superlatives. After that, the students should read the tasks together.
Purpose: to help students learn the usage of superlatives. Playing the game not only can make students have more interests in putting what they have learned into practice, but also can make students learn more about our hometown and fall in love with it deeply.
Step 4 Watch a video
1. Create a situation: Lucy is happy,because you gave her a lot of good advice, so she wants to invite you to have dinner with her. She sent a video to you and hopes you can choose the best restaurant for her.
2. Watch a video about different restaurants.
3. Ask the students some questions: Which one do you like best Why do you like it best
Purpose: to attract students’ attention and let students use the superlative degree in a real situation.
Step 5 Brainstorming
1. Free talk: What qualities(特质) should the best restaurant have
Then guide students to answer this question from food, environment,price,service,distance and so on.
2. Let the students of two groups make sentences to describe the best restaurant’s qualities one by one.
Purpose: to consolidate what they have learned and open students’ minds.And also, it can develop student’ spoken English.
Step 6 Group work
Choose three managers of different restaurants. The manager should introduce his/her restaurant. Then, The group members discuss which is the best restaurant. After that, group leaders vote for (支持)the best restaurant. Finally, Elect(挑选)
the best restaurant.
Purpose: To motivate every students to join the class and develop their spirit of teamwork. And also, this activity can consolidate the knowledge they have learned today and train their speaking skills.
