How to Make Chopsticks
Chopsticks are thought to have a long history of more than 5.,000 years. They were invented by Chinese people. Chopsticks began to spread to Korea, Japan and Vietnam by 500 A.D. At first, chopsticks were used as sticks to get food that was cooked in a pot or fire. Later, food was sliced (切) into smaller pieces before being cooked. As a result，people gradually used the
chopsticks at table. In a word, chopsticks are very useful for both cooking and eating. They can last for years. Now let's learn the process of producing a pair of chopsticks.
Step One: The materials we need are two smooth and straight sticks，a saw (锯)，a knife and a pair of leather gloves.
Step Two: Use a saw to cut the sticks into 7 to 12 inches. If you use them for cooking，you can cut them longer. If you use them for eating，you can cut them shorter.Step Three: Sit down and put on a pair of leather gloves. Hold the knife with one hand and the stick with the other hand. Use the blade(刀刃)of the knife to polish the surface of the sticks lightly and slowly until the two sticks become almost the same in size.
Step Four: When finish cutting the sticks, you can decorate the chopsticks to any shape you like. The simplest way is to just make the “food” end of them round, and leave the rest as it is.
Remember: Be careful and avoid cutting yourself! Never attempt（试图） to split the stick with the knife without wearing a pair of leather gloves!
