A year ago, I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels. I'm not going to sugarcoat my experience. It takes commitment(投入)and a willingness to change long-held habits. In creating my kitchen, I tried a lot of different alternative products and some plain old common things; the result, however, has been worth the effort. I'm recycling more and relying less on single-use products and I'm saving money too.
I'm not kidding when I say that I used to really love plastic storage bags, so this was, perhaps, the biggest challenge for me. Switching to reusable storage bags is a financial investment, but the cost is reasonable considering that I previously spent at least $100 annually on single-use plastic bags and wrap. I will check online periodically(定期地)for recycling updates, where a zero-waste box for kitchen items is offered for free, from party supplies to mixed-material food containers.
I'm a clean freak(怪人)and used to go through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis, but it's easy enough to take old T-shirts or towels and cut them up to use to wipe down surfaces. I'm also a fan of bamboo paper towels, which have the look and feel of traditional paper towels, yet are made from a highly renewable source and also break down in just 45 days. Better yet, they can be reused up to 100 times. As for kitchen sponges(海绵擦), I keep an eye out for those made with natural and recyclable materials.
When purchasing household items online from companies like Amazon or Jet, I will ask to have them shipped in as few boxes as possible or as small a box as possible if a single item is to be sent. I'll let the company know that it should pay more attention to how it's packaging items for delivery.
4. What is the author's main purpose of creating her kitchen
A. To save money.
B. To reduce waste and recycle more.
C. To change her long-held habits.

D. Give up.
6. In creating her environmentally friendly kitchen, what does the author do
A. Begin to recycle more single-use plastic bags.
B. Go through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis.
C. Check online periodically to buy zero-waste boxes.
D. Choose to use the recyclable or reusable kitchen items.
7. What can we learn about the author from the text
A. She has strong environmental awareness.
B. She is used to traditional paper towels.
C. She has a good knowledge of financial investment.
D. She prefers to have her purchases packed in small boxes.

The African grey parrot's ability to talk and mimic sounds makes it a charming companion. African grey owners often report that their greys oftentimes talk in context and c can understand their people's emotions. The African grey parrot is not just a top talker-this bird is also known for its extreme intelligence, which gives it the name "The Einstein of the Bird World".
The bird is medium-sized, dusty-looking and almost pigeon-like. It has a bright red tail, intelligent orange eyes, and a stunning scalloped(扇形的)pattern to its feathers. Their diet in the wild consists mostly of nuts, seeds, fruits, and leafy matter.
At home, African greys need plenty of toys that challenge their intelligence, such as food searching and puzzle toys. Nutri-Berries by Lafeber Company is a perfect choice, which, with a balance of grains, seeds and other nutrients in the shape of a berry, encourages African greys to hold, bite off, and even play with, just as they do in the wild.
African greys seem especially affected by stress and disturbing noise in their environment and can be put more at ease by placing one corner of the cage against a wall as opposed to in the middle of a room.
African grey parrots are more likely to suffer from lack of vitamin A/beta-carotene, and therefore benefit from eating vegetables high in beta-carotene, such as cooked sweet potato and fresh kale. Lack of vitamin D is another concern, especially for greys on a poor diet. Offering a balanced, pill-shaped diet, such as Nutri-Berries, helps prevent vitamin and mineral shortage.
8. Why are African grey parrots called "The Einstein of the Bird World"
A. Because of their brain size.
B. On account of their intelligence.
C. Owing to their rich emotions.
D. Due to their talking ability.
9. What can "Nutri-Berries" probably be
A. A brand of bird food.
B. Puzzle toys for birds.
C. A type of round fruit.
D. Wild intelligence games.
10. What is the characteristic of African grey parrots
A. They may get ill due to lack of vitamins.
B. They prefer to stay in the middle of the room.
C. They are dusty-looking with blue eyes.
D. They are smart and love to have fun.
11. Where can we most probably find the passage
A. In a wildlife magazine.
B. In science fiction.
C. In a travel guide.
D. On a shopping website.

When you visit Kinderdijk, one of the most visited villages in the Netherlands, you step right into the middle of Dutch history.
Kinderdijk lies in the Alblasserwaard, where the Lek and Noord rivers meet together. Much of the village is near or even below sea level. Although there are canals and dykes(坝), the lowlands of the village are still at risk of flooding. Among the most deadly floods was Saint Elisabeth's flood in 1421, which killed thousands after the dykes broke in several places. To deal with this kind of problem, the Kinderdijk windmills(风车)were built around 1740 to move water from the lower areas to higher ground and into the canal.
Nineteen of the 20 Kinderdijk windmills remain and were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Of the 19 windmills, 16 still have millers who live inside and control the huge sails in the wind. These windmills continue to help manage the Netherlands ongoing fight to stay above water.
For tourists, boat tours are offered along the canals and walkways lead from the visitor center to the windmills. Two windmills serve as museums filled with old millers' items and photos. You can climb up inside to see how the windmills work. The windmills also are working, so be prepared to feel the whole building shake when the sails turn in the wind.
Each year, about 500,000 people visit the Kinderdijk windmills and the buildings have become a must-see on any trip to the Netherlands. "There are some windmills north of Amsterdam that were built for tourists, but we're a historical site where tourists come, so it's the other way around," says Kinderdijk communications manager Peter Paul Klapwijk "Tourism is a good way to support our site. "
12. Why were the Kinderdijk windmills built around 1740
A. To protect dykes.
B. To produce clean water.
C. To prevent floods.
D. To keep the sea level from rising.
13. What can we learn about Kinderdijk windmills
A. Most of them are working as before.
B. Most of them have become museums.
C. Several of them have been sold to millers.
D. Several of them were destroyed long ago.
14. How does Peter Paul Klapwijk feel about so many tourists visiting the windmills
A. Fearful.
B. Worried
C. Excited.
D. Surprised.
15. What does the text mainly introduce
A. The history of Kinderdijk.
B. A famous historical site.
C. An amazing village of canals.

Bees are very strange creatures. They have their own way of telling each other that they have found a new flower. They bring some of a flower's nectar(花蜜)back home and then do a little dance that shows where the flower is and how far away it is.
In autumn the worker bees go out and collect as much nectar and pollen(花粉)as they can carry. Then they return to make honey and store it for the long cold winter.
Bees I build their own houses but they do not always have round tops like people draw them in storybooks. They are usually five storeys high. The queen bee always has the bottom storey. In between the bottom storey and all the rest there are bars only just wide enough for the workers to pass through. The queen bee can never go up to the other floors because she is bigger than all the other bees. The storeys the queen can't enter are where the store rooms are. There are rooms for pollen, nectar and royal jellies(蜂王浆)If there is a fire, the workers have to cover the walls and entrance of the rooms. They have to move the honey and the nectar and pollen away from the hot walls of the room.
Only the queen can lay eggs. She mates with a male bee called a drone. Once the queen has laid the eggs she throws the drone out because a drone just sits around eating honey and nectar. He cannot go out and collect pollen because drones do not have pollen-carrying things on their legs.
Young bees are called nurses because they have to nurse the newborn bees whether they like it or not. What a bee ends up being when it grows up depends on what it eats. If it is to be a queen it must feed on royal jellies and it must never, ever set eyes on another queen. If it does they must fight till only one of them is still alive.

A year ago,I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels.(一年前,我决定创建一个更环保的厨房,重点是减少一次性产品,如塑料袋和纸巾。)
根据后句It takes commitment(投入)and a willingness to change long-held habits.(改变长期的习惯需要投入和意愿。)
I tried a lot of different…I'm saving money too. I used to really love plastic storage bags,so this was, perhaps, the biggest challenge for me. Switching to reusable storage bags is a financial investment可知,作者过去喜欢使用塑料储物袋,现在转为使用可重复使用的储物袋,故A项(开始回收利用更多的一次性塑料袋。) I will check online periodically(定期地)for recycling updates, where a zero-waste box for kitchen items is offered for free可知,作者会定期上网查看回收更新,那里免费提供一个零垃圾的厨房用品箱,故C项(定期上网查询去购买零废品箱。)
I'm a clean freak(怪人)and used to go through...cut them up to use to wipe down surfaces. Switching to reusable storage bags is a financial investment...on single-use plastic bags and wrap. When purchasing household items online from companies...if a single item is to be sent.

根据第一段中this bird is also known for its extreme intelligence, which gives it the name "The Einstein of the Bird World"可知,非洲灰鹦鹉以非常聪明而闻名,这使它被称为“鸟类世界的爱因斯坦”:再根据第三段中Nuti-Berries by Lafeber Company is a perfect choice,which...encourages African greys to hold, bite off,and even play with, just as they do in the wild.

One possible version:
Dear Chris,
How are you doing Last weekend, I took a trip with my family to a village in the local Shangri-La.
Hardly had we arrived there when the pleasant air mixed with the smell of flowers and green plants greeted us. The sounds of birds as well as streams flew into our ears. The villagers there live in harmony with nature and benefit from nature. I believe as long as we humans get along well with nature, it will never be mean to us.
Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
