四、阅读理解
(一)
Culture shock is simply a common way to describe the confused and nervous feelings a person may have in a new and different culture. When you move to a new place, you have to face a lot of changes. That can be exciting, but it can also be difficult. You may feel sad and nervous.
It’s difficult to get used to a new culture. People from other countries may have grown up with beliefs that differ from yours. Because of these differences, the things they talk about and the ways they express themselves may be very different from what you are used to.
You can do a lot to help yourself get used to a new culture. But don’t forget that you aren’t alone—there are people you can go to ask for help—family and friends. Find someone who
has experienced culture shock—maybe an older relative who has moved to the area before you did. Find out how they dealt with the difficulties in the new environment. If you don’t know someone who has been through what you’re going through, try talking to teachers at your new school. They’ve helped some students deal with different problems. Although they may not have personal experience of culture shock, they do have experience in helping people deal with hard times.
You also can make some new friends. Making friends who aren’t new to the culture may help you understand the culture better. Besides, talk to someone when you’re feeling down.
