Ben could hear strong winds outside his home in Alabama. Black clouds were making the sky very dark. With no light outside, it felt like at night. The news on TV reported that a heavy rainstorm was in the area. Everyone in Ben’s family was busy.
Ben’s dad was nailing pieces of wood on the windows while his mum was making sure the flashlights and radio were working. She also put some candles and matches on the table. Ben was helping his mum make dinner when the rain began to beat heavily against the windows.

Amy was on her way to a park to see a flower show yesterday. But she couldn’t speak Chinese. She didn’t know how to get there, either. The boy understood and then showed Amy the way to the park.
