_2_ notes ” “Well, no. That would be a lot of work.” “Hard work never _3_ anyone,” Grandma said. “You could try practising in front of a _4_. It’s easy to find how well you are practising.”
I continued to complain about schoolwork, friends and family. Grandma took it all in, listening _5_ while I talked about so many pieces of grief (伤心事) in my life. “Nancy,” she said, “there’s nothing wrong with a little trouble in your life.
Well, you know, a lot of people don’t make homemade soup these days. They say it’s too much trouble. But I don’t _6_ such a little trouble. It adds flavour (滋味) to my soup—and to my life. My soup would be pretty bland (平淡) without the vegetables, and so would my life if it didn’t have the little ups and downs.” She smiled and then started washing the dishes. While I helped Granny _7_, I thought about what she had said. I still had a few days to _8_ my report.
That Saturday, Grandma gave me food for _9_ as well as a bowl of her homemade soup. As I _10_ the meal with my grandma, somehow my problems didn’t seem so big any more. Nowadays climate change is the greatest challenge for us. We should try our best to reduce carbon emission (排放) if we want to avoid a disaster that will destroy large parts of the
world. The carbon footprint means the effect that human activities have on the environment. Here are some useful ways to live a low-carbon life.
Use less paper in order to protect trees.
Drink and eat wisely. Drink tap water rather than buy bottled water. If you have concerns about your tap water, use a filter and clean it regularly. Try to replace one of your weekly meals without any meat.
Don’t burn fossil fuels if you can. Travelling on foot or by bike reduces pollution and saves money.
In fact, making use of solar power is the most useful way to live a low-carbon life. If all families use home solar power system instead of fossil fuels, we can reduce the use of gas by more than a third. You can search for information on the Internet to put together your DIY solar power system. However,
