Recycling is very important. In _1_,almost everything can be used again. For example, when an animal dies,it becomes other animals’ food. Nothing is _2_. But humans have created things like _3_ bags which can’t be broken down (分解) by nature. Human rubbish _4_ animals and pollutes water and soil. If we continue making too much rubbish, the problem will
get _5_. If nature can’t reuse the rubbish,we must recycle it. We should _6_ the rubbish we’ve made because nature can’t.
Recycling is also the right thing to do for another reason. The earth is rich in natural resources like water, but these resources are not _7_. We use up the natural resources much more_8_ than the earth is able to reproduce them. For example, each year we _9_ more than 6,000 square miles of forest. But it takes an average of 25 _10_ for a new tree to grow.
Recycling can help us save the earth,so let’s take action right now.

Paul Nicklen waited patiently on the ice in the Arctic (北极). He was there to take pictures for National Geographic. Finally, he saw something big and white. It was a polar bear, swimming towards food in the icy water.
Nicklen lay down on the ice to get a better photo. The swimming bear climbed onto an ice floe (浮冰). Unluckily, it
broke, and the bear fell back into the water. The polar bear couldn’t find a meal, and had to swim farther away to find food.
Polar bears need ice to hunt seals (海豹)—their favourite meal. They stand on the ice floes, and wait for the seals to come up for air. However, because of global warming (全球变暖), Arctic temperatures are rising and polar ice is melting (融化). As polar ice melts, polar bears have to swim farther to find ice floes. Sometimes, bears have to swim more than 200 kilometres to find
an ice floe. Some bears cannot swim that far and, sadly, they die in the water.
On his last trip, Nicklen saw three polar bear bodies. Before global warming influences the Arctic, a dead polar bear is hardly seen. Wildlife experts think that global warming will have a terrible influence on polar bears. In the future, polar ice will continue to melt. Some scientists believe that about two-thirds of the world’s polar bears will disappear by 2050.

三、短文填空(难度:★★★★)
Stop and listen! What do you hear You may hear many different _16_. Some of the sounds _17_ be noise. Noise is a loud or unwanted sound. Noise can be _18_ by many kinds of machines, such as cars, planes, farm tractors(拖拉机) _19_ so on. And, to some people, _20_ music is also a noise. What happens to people _21_ live near noisy machines or use them over a period of time
Doctors have found that these people have trouble _22_ at night. But more importantly, constant loud noise can cause a loss (丧失) of _23_. Scientists use a unit of measure called decibel(分贝) to check _24_ loudness of a sound. The sound of a quiet room, for example, measures 35 decibels. Talking measures between 40 and 65 decibels. Sounds from traffic and from some rock bands can measure over 120 decibels. Noise at this _25_ level causes the greatest hearing loss.

Cars make our lives more convenient. But they can also be a problem. For example, fossil fuel(化石燃料) cars mainly cause air pollution. To improve the environment, many countries are developing electric vehicles(电动汽车), also called EVs. Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world’s largest EV market.
续表
In 2016, 564,000 EVs were sold in China, nearly twice as many as the number sold in 2015. Also this year, the number sold in China was more than in the US.
“Filling up a fossil fuel car with gas (汽油) is more expensive than charging (充电) an electric car,” said Wu Hao, who bought an electric car this year.
续表
However, there are still some problems. It can be hard to find charging stations, so the cars can’t go far.
Some of these problems are being solved. In 2014,China had 31,000 charging stations. Now China has the world’s largest EV charging network, with more than 201,000 charging stations in total.
Developing EVs is one of many efforts that China has made to cut down pressure on its environment after the government promised to
