Why do people celebrate Thanksgiving
In 1620, a ship named “ the May flower” arrived (到达)in America. They died (死亡)because of hunger(饥饿) and cold. The good-hearted(好心的) Indians gave them food to live.
Origin(起源)
Next year they had a good harvest (收获). In order to (为了) thank the Indians for their help, they invited them to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Activities(活动)
Thanksgiving Day parades(游行) are held in some cities and towns on or around Thanksgiving Day. Some parades or festivities also mark the opening of the Christmas shopping season.
Some people have a four-day weekend so it is a popular time for shopping. And also for trips and to visit family and friends.
Food
Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal. The meal often includesroast turkey (火鸡)with cranberries,(蔓越莓) sweet patatoes, and pumpkin pies for dessert.
