Unit 6 Unexplained
Writing: A Strange Dream
Knowledge and ability objects:
1. Use simple past tense to describe a strange dream.
2. To train student’s skills on Writing.
3. Let students know how to use conjunctions in their writing.
4. Let students know to describe their strange dreams.
Teaching important and difficult points:
1. To enable students to know how to show the strange in their articles.
2. To enable students to use simple past tense in their article correctly.
3. To enable students to know how to make a good structure in their writings.
Teaching procedures and activities:
Part A Pre-writing
Step 1 Warming up and introduction
Show some pictures to let students know about the definition of a strange dream.
Step 2 Discussion.
Task 1: Show some pictures to let students know about the definition of a strange dream.
Let student think of a strange dream they have made and share the dream in their groups.
Step 3 Oral presentation
Activity 1:
1. Watch a video about Sponge Bob’s strange dream.
2. Talk about what he did in his dream.
3. Make a report about his dream. And make a summary about what information should be include in a short report about dreams.
Activity2:
1. Let students talk about what happened in their dreams.
Part B While-writing
Step 4 Show a sample
I will give an article of Sponge Bob’s strange dream to students, but they need to find out the main idea of each part. Then, we will conclude what we should write in each part.
Step 5 Consolidation
Task4:I will ask students to write a composition about their strange dreams, and they must pay attention to the structure, including three parts--beginning, body and ending.
Part C Post-writing
Step 6 Self-check and production
Task5:First, I will let students check their writings with their partners. Then, I will show one or two students’ work for the classmates. One is the better student’s writing, and the other is the good student’s writing. And let all the students find out the mistakes, especially let them pay attention to the tenses. I’ll explain the typical mistakes, especially all kinds of the tenses.
Part D Summary
I will make a conclusion about this class.And tell students: The dreams we have when we sleep can not come true. But the dreams we have in our life can come true through our hard work. So you want to achieve your dream, the first thing you should do is to wake up.
