[2022·威海高一上期末] We've explored London thoroughly and come away with quite a few lessons. Here are our top tips for travel in London.
☆Visiting Buckingham Palace
Together with Big Ben, Buckingham Palace is London's most symbolic landmark. This grand building is where Queen Elizabeth hosts banquets (宴会) and meets heads of state. The palace is only open during the summer. If you're visiting when the palace isn't available to tour, go to see the Changing of the Guard and take a tour of the Royal Mews, the Queen's stables (马厩) that hold her carriage collection.
☆Drinking afternoon tea
The British have taken a simple tea break and turned it into an impressive ceremony, complete with patterned china, plates of finger sandwiches and cakes. When making a reservation, remember that afternoon tea isn't a snack but a full meal, and if you do it right, you'll be full. The smart move is to skip lunch and maybe even dinner.
☆Hitting the London Eye
Standing near centuries old buildings, the London Eye whirls (旋转) over the left bank of the Thames, overlooking the London Bridge and the Shard to the west. The experience is definitely worth the price of admission, especially on a clear day. But buy your tickets in advance online and go first thing in the morning. Crowds peak between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., so get your breakfast to go and your line will be much shorter.
21.Which activity is particular for visitors to Buckingham Palace in summer
A.Get around the grand building.
B.Enjoy the view of Big Ben.
C.Watch the Changing of the Guard.
D.Take a tour of the Royal Mews.
22.What is suggested if you want to enjoy afternoon tea in London
A.Dressing up for the ceremony.
B.Booking online in advance.
C.Preparing patterned china for it.
D.Going with an empty stomach.
23.What do we know about the London Eye according to the text
A.It is a centuries old landmark.
B.London Bridge is to the east of it.
C.It's better to visit it in the afternoon.
D.Ticket booking is available online.
B
Growing up, my grandparents bought a second home amongst a small forest in Arkansas and would bring me there every single summer. I would spend a lot of time outside there following my grandfather around while he did yard work. We would collect cool looking rocks and refill the hummingbird feeders.
I always remember my grandparents calling me over to the window when a deer family was in the yard or a few hummingbirds were at the feeders so that I could watch them. I would explore around in the yard by myself sometimes to look for interesting rocks and if I was lucky I would find a turtle. If I did find a turtle, my grandfather would put it in the kiddy pool for me to observe for a few minutes. I was always amazed by these creatures. After I finished observing the turtle, my grandfather would pick it back up and return it to the bush I found it in. I would watch in amazement as it slowly stuck its legs out and crawled back under.
I always felt very at peace at my grandparents' home. It was quiet and full of interesting natural things I never got to see in Illinois. They disturbed the land around them as little as possible and didn't see it as nuisance (令人讨厌的东西), rather a beautiful view.
As Aldo Leopold, an American scientist, puts it, we should take the time to appreciate and observe the natural world around us. When we do this, we find it brings us happiness and has a great value beyond just that of resources. Conservation of the natural world is important in that we are dependent upon it for life. We cannot worsen such a__bountiful__provider at such a rate in which it will never return to anything like what it once was. Our experiences with nature are what will drive us to reach this conclusion, if only everyone took the time to really involve themselves in it.
24.What does the writer mainly talk about in Paragraph 2
A.His interest in rocks and animals.
B.His connection with natural world.
C.His daily routine in summer vacation.
D.His close relationship with grandparents.
25.What does “a bountiful provider” refer to in the last paragraph
A.Nature. B.Illinois.
C.The small forest. D.Grandparents' home.
26.What is the writer most likely to get across
A.Past experiences should be treasured.
B.Nature offers man a journey of discovery.
C.Quality time with family is of great value.
D.Into the nature, you will know how precious it is.
27.In which forum would you most likely find the text
A.Family Matters. B.On the Road.
C.At One with Nature. D.Nature in Words.
C
When we see a person in trouble our immediate reaction is to lend a hand. But what if we see an animal in trouble, does the same rule apply
This question was raised after a group of penguins were saved from an icy gully (峡谷) in Antarctica. It was filmed for the BBC wildlife series Dynasties. After seeing that a group of penguins had fallen into a gully and been trapped with their young the film crew were so concerned about their safety that they built a slope (斜坡) so that a few of the penguins could save themselves.
The case has taken the international media by storm. Viewers watching this film let out a sigh of relief. “I'm so glad. I understand not taking action directly involved, but a helping hand isn't bothering, right?” viewer Kathryn Shaw said on her Facebook.
However, others think human interference (干涉) is unnatural. “You can't have sunshine throughout your life. To have done anything else would only make matters worse,” said the show's creator David Attenborough, according to The Times.
In this case, however, Mike Gunton, the executive producer of the series, said that this was a one off situation. “There were no animals going to suffer by interfering. You weren't touching the animals and it was just felt by doing this. They had the chance not to have to keep slipping down the slope,” he told the BBC.
Such cases are familiar to Paul Nicklen, wildlife photographer for National Geographic. He told Metro, “If it's ever a predator (捕食者) situation, no matter how gut wrenching, you stay out of the way. Even when you're watching a male polar bear eat a baby bear.”
“There's no rule book in those situations. You can only respond to the facts that are right there in front of you,” Will Lawson, the show's director, told Daily Mail.
28.What has caused to a heated media discussion
A.People's various comments on penguins. B.The ways of helping the trapped penguins.
C.Some penguins' sufferings in a gully. D.Ways of filming the series Dynasties.
29.How did the film crew feel when seeing the trapped penguins
A.Anxious. B.Sad.
C.Annoyed. D.Thrilled.
30.Which human activity is considered proper in Paul Nicklen's opinion
A.Shooting an eagle catching a snake. B.Preventing a polar bear eating a baby bear.
C.Watching a lion attacking a deer. D.Distracting a crocodile biting an antelope.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.The Necessity of Lending a Hand to Animals in Trouble
B.Suggestions on How to Save Animals in Trouble
C.Effects of Human Interference on Animals in Trouble
D.Opinions on Whether to Help Animals in Trouble

Ocean food plays a very important part in our food supply. Not so long ago, the world's oceans were filled with different types of fish. Now, a large increase in global overfishing has threatened that supply.
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, 90 percent of the world's fisheries (渔场) are either being fully exploited (开发), or are at risk of being closed down.
With fish supplies running out (用完) at home, fishermen are traveling further to find their catch. Frequently, fishermen are crossing over into other countries. As fish supplies closer to their homeland's shores are decreasing, fishermen cross borders to find fish.
Overfishing can be found everywhere, from Mexican fishing boats off the US coast of Florida to Russian fishing boats in the western Bering Sea. However, the effect is felt the strongest in the South China Sea.
On the other side of the world, West Africa is now seeing malign effects of overfishing. For coastal African countries, such as Senegal, the fishing industry is a large part of the national economy. The World Bank reports nearly 20 percent of the Senegalese are working in the fishing industry. Rashid Sumaila is the Director of Fisheries Economic Research at the University of British Columbia. He says communities that depend on fish for income and food, like Senegal, are now at risk.
32.Why do fishermen cross borders to catch fish
A.Because they want to protect the environment.
B.Because they want to enjoy the overseas scenery.
C.Because fish supplies in their countries are decreasing.
D.Because fishing is not allowed in their own countries.
33.Where can the most serious overfishing be seen according to the text
A.In Russia. B.In the South China Sea.
C.Off the US coast of Florida. D.In the western Bering Sea.
34.What does the underlined word “malign” in the last paragraph probably mean
A.Harmful. B.Satisfying. C.Hopeful. D.Beneficial.
35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Most people in Africa will be out of work.
B.The World Bank will lend money to fishermen.
C.Rashid Sumaila is unconcerned about overfishing.
D.Overfishing has some bad effects on African people.

Willie's aunt sent him a little writing book as a birthday present. There was a place in the book for a pencil. Willie thought a great deal of this little book, and always kept it in his pocket.
One day, his mother was very busy, and he called his dog, and said, “Come, Caper, let us have a play.” When Willie's mother missed him, she went to the door and looked out, and could not see him anywhere;but she knew that Caper was with him, and thought they would come back before long. She waited an hour, and still they did not come. When she came to the gate by the road, she met Mr. Lee, Willie's father, and told him how long Willie had been gone. Mr. Lee thought he must have gone to sleep under the trees. So they went to all the trees under which Willie was in the habit of playing, but he was not here to be found. By this time the sun had gone down the news that Willie was lost soon spread over the neighborhood, and all the men and women turned out to hunt. They hunted all night. The next morning the neighbors were gathered round, and all were trying to think what to do next, when Caper came bounding into the room.
There was a string tied round his neck, and a bit of paper tied to it. Mr. Lee, took the paper, and saw that it was a letter from Willie. He read it aloud. It said, “O, father! Come to me. I am in the big hole in the pasture (牧场).”
Everybody ran at once to the far corner of the pasture; and there was Willie, alive and well in the shaft (通风井). Oh, how glad he was when his father caught him in his arms, and lifted him out!
Now I will tell you how Willie came to be in the shaft and the whole story. He and Caper went to the pasture field, and came to the edge of the shaft and sat down. In bending over to see how deep it was, he lost his balance and fell in.

(Text 10)
Aelita Andre, a young artist from Australia, has been described as “the world's youngest professional artist”. She is known for her special painting style and her young age.
In 2011, when Aelita was only four years old, she held her first show in New York. It contained 24 of her paintings, each on sale for between $4,400 and $10,000. At the age of seven, the little girl became the youngest professional painter in the world.
Aelita showed strong interest in painting when she was only a baby. Her parents are both artists. At that time, she often watched them draw on the floor. When she was only nine months old, Aelita crawled over one of her father's paintings and began mixing colours — that's when she started painting.
Now Aelita's cheapest works are selling for more than $3,000 each. She has already made more than $100,000 from her art — more money than most artists earn in a lifetime.

第二节
参考范文:
He tried very hard to get out, but could not. When the good little dog saw that his master was in the shaft, he would not leave him, but ran round and round, reaching down and trying to pull him out.But while Caper was pulling Willie by the coat sleeves, a piece of sod gave way under his feet, and he fell in too. Willie called for his father and mother as loud as he could but he was so far away from the house that no one could hear him. He cried and called till it was dark, and then he lay down on the ground, and Caper lay down close beside him. It was not long before Willie cried himself in sleep.
When he awoke, it was morning, and he began to think of a way to get out. The little writing book that his aunt had given him was in his pocket. He took it out, and after a good deal of trouble, wrote the letter to his father. Then he tore the leaf out, and took a string out of his pocket, and tied it round Caper's neck, and tied the letter to the string. Then he lifted the dog up, and helped him out, and said to him, “Go home, Caper, go home!” The little dog scampered away, and was soon at home.
