Unit 8 Collecting things
The teaching plan
A. Analysis on the teaching material
This unit talks about collections and people’s collecting habit. By reading the story about the grandparents who are interested in collecting things, the students will learn to balance the time on study and on hobbies. The listening part enables the students to learn about other people’s collections. And the students will know more culture after studying some postcards.
B. Analysis on the students
Most of them don’t have the hobby of collecting things, so it might be difficult for them to talk about it at first. But by listening, interviewing and discussion, they will get to learn more about the topic and be able to communicate with others about it.
C. The teaching objectives
(1)The aims of the knowledge
Listening: To listen to a cartoon talking about collections and get the main idea.
Speaking: To finish interviewing others about collecting and talk about different collections and cultures.
Reading: To further understand the story and review the key words and phrases
Writing: To do a survey and write a report based on it.
(2)The aims of the abilities: To be able to communicate with others about collecting things, cultures in English, to have the ability to solve the problems in daily life.
(3)The aims of the emotion: To cultivate interest and hobbies through communicating with others, to arrange time properly in order to balance between hobbies and study
D. The difficult and important teaching points
To finish interviewing others about collecting and talk about different collecting, cultures. To cultivate interests and hobbies through communicating with others

Act it out. To train their speaking ability by having them describe the pictures, to learn more about the passage.By finishing the interview, Ss will get to know the importance of balancing between study and their hobby.
Post-reading 5. Group-work (Discussion on how to solve Jenny’s problem)Jenny likes collecting model cars very much. She always spends almost all of her free time collecting them. Yesterday she failed an exam and is worried about her study. Please give her some suggestions on what to do next. 6. Sharing different collections 1.The teacher share with the students some postcards.2. A reporter from each group share with the class their collections. This is a problem they may have in daily life. The task enables them to think about it and find a way to solve it, thus their problem-solving ability will be practiced.It is great fun sharing their collections with the class. Furthermore, their interest in different hobbies and cultures will be nurtured and vision will be broadened.
