Unit 6 Ancient stories (Listening)
Objectives:
1. Get Ss to learn some background knowledge about the Trojan War.
2. Enable Ss to understand and use the following words and expressions: ancient, Trojan, Troy, Greece, Geek,queen, prince, steal, punish, in the end.
3. Enable Ss to get some listening skills: 1) Predict before listening. 2) Listen with questions. 3) Get detailed information from pictures and match them to the story while listening.
学情分析: The students from Grade 8 are about 13 years old. Teenagers at this age are usually curious about stories, music, movies, history, traditions, culture, etc. They would like to know the world around them. They are also willing to accept all the new things. They are active, energetic, and fond of games, competitions and funny activities, but at the same time they are easy to get impatient or bored when they have difficulty in English learning. What’s more, they are all in their early adolescence period, which means that they care more about other people’s opinions. They want to show themselves in front of others but they are afraid to express themselves in English and make mistakes.
Therefore, as a listening lesson, we should first build a pleasant and relaxing class atmosphere in which students can enjoy their English reading at ease. Then we can motivate students to enjoy listening to the ancient story by leading in some Chinese fairy tales. Apart from that, the help with new words, the introduction to the background of the Trojan War and useful listening skills are helpful to improve students’ listening comprehension. And as we all know, it is easy for children and teenagers to learn through play. Thus we’d better design different kinds of interesting tasks or funny activities before and after listening for every student to participate in. As a result, they can cooperate, communicate ,help with each other and improve in the activities or games. More importantly, they can learn the new words, expressions, sentences they have learnt through listening and develop their listening skills while having fun. In a word, we should motivate students to enjoy English listening and let them learn through cooperation in a relaxing atmosphere.
重点难点
Teach Ss to pedict by looking at pictures before listening, find details from the pictures and match them with the
story while listening, and retell the story after listening.
教学活动Stages:
Step1: Warm-up
Lead in the topic of the Trojan War by getting Ss to talk about some Chinese ancient stories.
Step 2: Background knowledge introduction
1. Introduce Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey.
2. Locate Greece, Troy, and Sparta on the map.
3. Tell Ss the story of Golden Apple to get them familiar with the main characters of the Trojan War.
Step 3: Pre-listening activities
Ss are expected to look at the pictures and predict what may happen in the story.
Get Ss to describe the pictures in their own words.
Step 4: While-listening activities
1. Get Ss to listen to the story and put the pictures in the correct order.
2. Ss are suppose to listen to the recording again and complete the answers to the questions.
Step 5: Post-listening activities
Ss are expected to look at the pictures again and answer the questions.
Step 6: Summary
Ask Ss to summarize the listening skills they have learnt.
Review the new words and expressions they have leant.
Retell the story they have heard: How did the Trojan War start
Step 7 : Ending
Arouse Ss’ interest to get ready for the next reading lesson by giving them a question to think about.
