Demands of curriculum standards Based on the English Curriculum Standard, the general teaching aim is to develop the students' abilities of reading comprehension. To achieve this target, we should pay more attention to: arouse the students' interest in learning English.strengthen students' confidence. develop good learning habits. form effective learning strategies.
Analysis of the teaching material The gifts which was written by O.Henry describes a poor couple who sold their most valuable possessions to buy a gift for each other. Although the gifts became useless, they felt the deep love. The expressions in the story are not very hard, so in the first period, students should pay more attention to the comprehension and master the reading skills.
Teaching objectives Knowledge and skills: New words and expressions&Reading skills Process and method: Self-learning, group work, role-play. Affective objectives, attitude and value: Know something about presents. Learn to express love and thanks,and cherish the love around the students.

Step 6 Sum up and homework. A better understanding of the test. Listen and raise some questions. Explain.
