Are you sure you want to throw that out " he asked. "Well, it seems impossible to turn it back to a bowl." I shrugged my shoulders. "Give me a chance. I will prove that I am a skillful craftsman." He winked slyly. I could say nothing but thank him. Later, as he carefully glued back the broken pieces and beautified the cracks, I couldn't contain my sorrow anymore so I told him everything. He comforted me gently and encouraged me to apologize. Tossing in bed and debating whether I should say sorry to my mom the whole night , I woke up to find the repaired bowl was placed in front of our door the next morning.
I brought the repaired bowl into her room. Face lighting up at the mended bowl, my mom even forgot to ask me how I made it. Feeling quite guilty , I told her my
interaction with Mr. Chen, made an apology to her and invited her to express our gratitude to this excellent craftsman. As we called on Mr. Chen and extended to him our sincere thanks, I felt my previous negative thoughts towards our new life faded away. Instead, I now believed my 'shattering' life was pieced together again and we could truly make a fresh start in this new neighborhood.吴江平望中学2021-2022学年第一学期阶段性测试(一)

Other options can get the job done for under $5. For example, you can buy a small, generic photo album, cute memo pads or notebooks.
4. Arrange Your Trip Around the Off-Season Times
Lots of things, from airfare to souvenirs, can get more expensive during Disneyland's busier times of the year. To make the most of your money, plan your trip during the park's off-season. Emily is a teen with special needs. Often, she feels that she is targeted by her schoolmates. She complains of dirty looks, eye rolling and whispering when she walks through the halls. This time, she saw Anna whispering and thought it was about her.
And Emily had power to hit back-on Facebook. As soon as she got home, she logged on and demanded that her friends unfriend Anna, and choose between the two of them. She teased them for talking to A at school, and called Anna “ugly” and “fat”, “She is smelly.” Emily wrote, “and she uses her Mum to fight her battles.” You can only imagine the comments.
However, Emily didn’t know that her Facebook privacy setting was set to the public which meant that anyone-including Anna-could read her posts. In a matter of hours, Emily was the cyberbully.
And here’s the thing about cyberbullying: It can become real-life trouble. This can often be heard. “You bother me online. I will bother you up on the bus.” It can start with a misunderstood comment or an inappropriate post meant as a joke, And for a teen with special needs, words can take on literal meanings, creating an environment that’s bine that with a lack of control of online privacy and virtual social skills and you may have an ill outcome.
Social media can open doors to new friendships and social circles that are inaccessible in real life. But we, as adults, often give our children access to this virtual world without guidance and boundaries, while counting on them to use it with ease and wisdom. We expect too much with little direction. The advice that I give parents is to set clear rules and stay consistent, even repeated.

B. Emily believed Anna said something bad about her.
C. Anna bothered Emily online and E fought back.
D. Emily heard Anna whispering about her

28. What choice is the main idea of the article
A. The reasons for cyberbullying and the ways to avoid it
B. The current phenomenon of cyberbullying
C. Problems faced by Teenagers
D. Advice for parents to fight cyberbullying

A competition making up Versailles literature was launched on Weibo recently. So what is Versailles literature(凡尔赛文学)
Actually, the term has nothing to do with the French palace nor with literature. It came from The Rose of Versailles, a Japanese cartoon series about noble life at the palace of Versailles in France in the late 18th century, and was coined by a famous Chinese earlier this year. Known as humblebragging, it is a boast (吹牛) in the form of a complaint. “I have too many houses. How can I decide which one to decorate ” and “I thought I lost weight this morning. So disappointed when I realized it was because I took off the huge diamond ring my boyfriend gave me last night” are some examples of Versailles literature. The intention is to show off --- usually things of physical values, yet one ought to pretend that’s not the point.
As the 19th century English author Jane Austen famously wrote, “Nothing is more deceitful (欺诈的) than the appearance of humility.” The psychology behind humblebragging is to be recognized for one’s successes and be liked by others at the same time, according to scholars. In her article titled Why do people hate humblebragging published in Psychology Today, psychologist Dr. Susan Krauss noted that humblebragging is a “strategy for respect” because it draws attention to one’s achievements in a roundabout way.
However, studies on social media users show that humblebragging, as a self-promotion strategy, does not work. In the essay Humblebragging: A distinct but ineffective self-presentation strategy. Researchers concluded from their research that humble braggers(吹牛者) are considered more negative than straight braggers due to the former’s dishonesty. “The critical factor which distinguishes the two groups of people is honesty. People don’t like braggers, but they at least see them as more sincere than humble braggers,” said Francesca Gino.
So, how can we annoy humble braggers back “Just pretend you don’t get whatever they try to show off,” a netizen advised. “And respond with real sympathy for their complaints.”
29. Which description can explain Versatile Literature best
A. It’s about French literature.
B. It’s a boast with honesty.
C. It’s to show off proudly.
D. It’s to get one’s success recognized and liked at the same time.
30. Why do people hate humblebragging
A. Because it is not sincere.
B. Because humble braggers always lie.
C. Because people feel sorry for themselves when compared to them
D. Because people refuse to accept others’ success.
31. What is the attitude the writer holds towards Versatile Literature
A. Positive B. Indifferent C. Disapproving D. Objective
32.What is the meaning of the underlined word in para 2
A. To make a coin out of metal
B. A small flat piece of metal used as money
C. To invent a new word or phrase that others then begin to use
D. To make money quickly

Recently, scientific research suggests that mental health disorders(障碍)affect up to 35 percent of top athletes at some stage of their careers. This can range from tiredness and eating disorders to depression and anxiety. The causes can be highly varied, with studies pointing to a range of contributing factors from poor sleep to selection pressures and early retirement due to injury.
American Simone Biles is widely considered to be the greatest gymnast in the United States. When the Tokyo Olympics began, she was expected to win five gold medals. But on July 27th, she pulled out of the team final. She made the choice after having trouble landing her vault(跳跃)in the competition’s first round. Later she said her mind was not in the right place to let her safely perform the difficult moves she is known for. In other words, her mind was not letting her body do what it needed to do. Cameras caught her telling her trainers during the team final, “I just don’t trust myself.”
Biles is not the only Olympian in recent months to talk about the pressure and mental effects of competing at the highest level. Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka lost in the second round of Olympic competition. She said she felt extreme pressure to win for Japan, where the Olympics are taking place.
Few coaches and officials in sports have an expert understanding of mental health, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), also recognizes that there is a great need for practical assessment tools that can be used by medical professionals and anyone looking after athletes to protect athletes’ mental health.
“Mental health issues should be discussed more openly in sport, because athletes are always concerned about selection, and they want to appear as strong as possible,” Scientific Director Dr Richard Budgett says. “But in the end this may have negative effects, so we need to recognize and reduce the stigma so that athletes can get proper management and help when they need it.”
33.What caused both Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka’s failure in the Tokyo Olympics
A. Bad health B. Lack of confidence C. Mental effects D. Loss of control
34. Mental health disorders are caused by following factors , except__.
A. Proper management and help B. Selection pressure
C. Lack of professional help D. Too much expectation from people
35. What can be inferred from the passage
A. Most officials and coaches in sport have recognized mental health disorders.
B. Few athletes suffer from mental health disorders
C. The greater an athlete, the less pressure.
D. Mental health disorders can affect the performance of an athlete.

Everything about moving day was a puzzle. I didn't know anything about our new building on a new street. Our old life was broken into pieces and packed up in piled boxes. I wondered if it would ever fit back together again.
Mom introduced me to our new neighbors, the Chens. Mrs. Chen worked with Mom at the job she'd just started. Mr. Chen was a famous craftsman (匠人) from China.
Mom said it was a fresh start, but it felt broken to me. I just wanted things to go back to how they had been before.
After the first day at my new school, I walked home alone. Mom had told me she had to work. I was still hoping she'd meet me after the bell. I had to open the door myself with the new key. I searched for a clean plate. My fingers slipped, and something went crashing to the ground.
"Benjamin!" cried Mom from the doorway. I didn't hear her come in. "What just broke " she asked, kneeling to pick up the pieces. In her hands, I recognized the shattered pieces. It was Grandma's bowl. "I can't believe you broke this," she said.
"Well, I can't believe we have to live here now! I can't believe I have to switch schools, and I can't believe you didn't even meet me after my first day!" I ran into my room, slamming the door behind me.
The broom swept across the kitchen floor. Then the click of Mom's bedroom door closed behind her. I sneaked out into the kitchen and found the fragments in the dustbin. There were so many pieces in here, but maybe I could put them back together. Turning the pieces, I tried to match them, but this bowl would never look the same again.
"I'm sorry I yelled," said Mom, as she opened her door. "Please just throw out the pieces. We can't make a fresh start with broken things."
As I wandered down the hall, Mr. Chen was emptying his garbage.
