A year ago, I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels. I'm not going to sugar-coat my experience. It takes commitment and a willingness to change long-held habits. In creating my kitchen, I tried a lot of different alternative products and some plain old stuff ; the result, however, has been worth the effort. I'm recycling more and relying less on single-use products and I'm saving money too.
I'm not kidding when I say that I used to really love plastic storage bags, so this was, perhaps, the biggest challenge for me. Switching to reusable storage bags is a financial investment, but the cost is reasonable considering that I previously spent at least $100 annually on single-use plastic bags and wrap. I will check online periodically for recycling updates, where a zero-waste box for kitchen items is offered, from party supplies to mixed-material food containers.
I'm a clean freak(怪人) and used to go through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis, but it's easy enough to take old T-shirts or towels and cut them up to use to wipe down surfaces. I'm also a fan of bamboo paper towels, which have the look and feel of traditional paper towels, yet are made from a highly renewable source and also break down in just 45 days. Better yet, they can be reused up to 100 times. As for kitchen sponges (海绵块), I keep an eye out for those made with natural and recyclable materials.
When purchasing household items online from companies like Amazon or Jet, I will ask to have them shipped in as few boxes as possible or as small a box as possible if a single item is to be sent. I'll let the company know that they should pay more attention to the packaging of the delivery.
1.What is the author's main purpose of creating her kitchen
A.To save money. B.To reduce waste and recycle more.
C.To change her long-held habits. D.To make it cleaner and more practical.
2.What does the underlined word "sugar-coat" in Paragraph 1 mean
A.Make attractive. B.Get interested. C.Show off. D.Give up.
3.In creating her kitchen, what does the author do
A.Begins to recycle more single-use plastic bags.
B.Goes through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis.
C.Checks online periodically to buy a zero-waste box.
D.Chooses to use the recyclable or reusable kitchen items.
4.What can we learn about the author from the text
A.She has strong environmental awareness.
B.She is now used to traditional paper towels.
C.She has a good knowledge of financial investment.
D.She prefers to have her purchases packed in small boxes.

The School year has barely started in Denver, and French teacher Tiffany Choi is already worried that her students are suffering from absent-mindedness. The problem isn't texting, playing video games or passing notes. It's Denver's ongoing heat wave.
"Today was a little bit hot, so I noticed kids were very sleepy and they were having to get up to drink water quite often," said Choi, who works at Denver's East High School. "If you lose too much water, and you have to keep going to the water fountain, that can take away from their classroom experience." While nodding off in class on a warm day may seem like a right of passage for the average teen, Choi's- Period observation carries a bigger consequence than parched (干燥的) lips.
"There's been quite a few media reports about teachers noticing that students weren't able to focus on hotter days," said R Jisung Park,a researcher. "Does a hotter climate during the school year actually affect the rate of learning The drops in academic achievement couldn't be explained by hotter weekends or hotter summers, but the trend was connected to higher temperatures on school days alone.
The connection between lost learning and a greater number of hot days is one more example of how climate change is already affecting our lives—and it's an alarm bell for what we stand to lose in the future. Humans still have time to lessen the worst consequences of continued global warming. But unless significant changes occur in the next decade—which seem more and more unlikely—the world will be locked into an inescapable part of heat waves unlike our species has ever seen.
1. What may cause students absent-minded according to the text
A. Video games. B. Text messages. C. Heat waves. D. Classroom notes.
2. What can be inferred from the second paragraph
A. Lacking water is vital for kids being sleepy.
B. Extreme heat may lower a kid's ability to learn.
C. Nodding off in class is a sign of respecting teachers.
D. Kids are more interested in drinking water than sleeping.
3. How does the author feel about dealing with the future global warming
A. Optimistic. B. Uncertain. C. Worried. D. Firm.
4. What is the best title for the Text
A. The hotter it grows, the less kids are learning
B. The consequences of continued global warming
C. The reasons why kids are absent-minded in class
D. The hotter it grows, the more focused kids become

The well-known adventurer (冒险家) and explorer Steve Fossett, born in 1944 in America, was famous for his extraordinary efforts to set world records in flying, ballooning and sailing. He set or broke over 100 records in five different sports, many of which are still held. Many of his most extraordinary adventures were as a pilot. He once said that he did not like risks. This might sound strange considering his activities. But he said what he tried to do was to reduce risk with careful planning, technological development and the help of the best scientists and other experts. In 2007, during a short- distance flight, his plane disappeared and he died at the age of 63.
In 1903 Benjamin Spock was born in America. After he attended Yale University he joined a sports team that competed in rolling boats, which in 1924 won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris. He used to work at a camp for disabled children for three summers during his years at Yale. And the experience probably led to his decision to enter Yale Medical School, and finally completing his medical degree at Columbia University in New York. From 1933 he worked as a baby doctor, trying to fit the theories (理论) about how children develop with what mothers told him about their children. During the 1950s, Dr Spock became famous. He wrote articles for magazines, appeared on TV programmes, taught at universities and gave speeches to talk to parents about their concerns (担心). Benjamin died in 1998 at 95. Yet his advice still continues to affect the lives of millions of children and their parents.
An 80-year-old Japanese mountain climber who has had four heart surgeries (手术) reached the top of Mount Qomolangma on Thursday, becoming the oldest to climb up the world's highest mountain on May 23, 2013. He has since skied down the highest mountains on each of the seven continents, following
the tradition of his late father, who skied down Europe's Mont Blanc at 99. "If you wish strongly and have courage and endurance, then you can get to the summit (顶峰) of your dream," Miura said.
1.What can be inferred from Steve Fossett's story
A.No amount of planning can prevent the possibility of risk in life.

She'd just returned from visiting her mother and had traveled the route many times before. She practically 1 on autopilot: a left onto Station Road, then a left on Montauk Highway, and then— wham! She 3 in the minivan, bruised (撞伤) but mostly just knocked out by the 4 and the airbags.
As it happened, Pete DiPinto was getting ready for 5 . He'd just closed his book and was getting under the covers when he heard the sound of metal on metal and breaking glass coming from not far outside his bedroom window. A volunteer 6 and retired teacher, DiPinto, 64, never 7 to think. He grabbed a flashlight and, still dressed in his pajamas (睡衣), ran out the door. "Any firefighter would have done what I did," he told Nevosday. "We're always on duty."
The first car he came upon, 2,000 feet from his front yard, was the one that had 8 Esposito. Once DiPinto concluded the driver was OK, he looked around and 9 Esposito's minivan positioned on the railroad tracks. And then he heard a terrible sound: the bells signaling an oncoming train.
"The gates were starting to come down," he told Nezvsday. "I see the headlight of the train." DiPinto ran quickly to Esposito's minivan and knocked on the driver's side window. She 10 looked at him, her eyes unfocused. "I don't know where I am," she said. She seemed unhurt. "Honey, you're on the railroad 11 ," DiPinto shouted. "We have to get you off right now!" He pulled hard on the handle, but the door was crashed in and 12 . The heavy diesel train, traveling at 65 miles per hour, was moving fast toward them. DiPinto ran to the passenger side and threw open the door. "Please, don't let her be 13 ," he thought. He pushed aside the deflating (瘪了的) airbags, grabbed Esposito's arms, and pulled her toward him across the passenger seat until he could help her out and quickly get her to 14 behind a signal box a few feet away. Within six seconds, he estimated, the train crashed into the minivan. "It was like a Hollywood movie" DiPinto told reporters the next day.
But this one had a twist. "Last night," South Country Ambulance chief Greg Miglino told CBS Nezv York, "the 15 arrived in pajamas, not in a fire truck."

Love makes the world go around and a mother's love never changes.
After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. It's hard to imagine that the other woman was my mother, who has been living alone for 19 years, but I am too busy to visit her often. That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.
"What's wrong Are you well " she asked. My mother always doubts that a late night call is a sign of bad news.
"It would be pleasant to spend some time with you," I responded.
As I drove over to pick her up, I noticed that she seemed to be nervous about our date. But she smiled from a face that was as beautiful as an angel's. "I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed," she said.
We went to a restaurant that was very nice and comfortable. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. I saw mom sitting there looking at me with a smile on her lips.
"I used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said. "Then it's time to let me return the favor," I responded.
During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation—nothing special but catching up on recent events. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you." I agreed.

A
The Monster Zoo was founded in 1983 as a breeding area(繁殖区). Officially open to the public in October
Child (4—14 years old): A$ 28.50; Adult(15 years old and over); A$ 51.75; Family Group: A$ 132. 75可知, A$ 28.50 + A$ 28.50 + A$ 51.75=A$ 108.75,也就是说如果三个年龄分别为12岁、14岁和19岁的年轻人参观动物园,他们要付108.75澳元。故选B项。
A year ago, I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels."
It takes commitment and a willingness to change long-held habits." 故选A项。
I tried a lot of different alternative products and some plain old stuff; the result, however, has been worth the effort. I'm recycling more and relying less on single-use products and I'm saving money too."
I'm a clean freak(怪人) and used to go through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis, but it's easy enough to take old T-shirts or towels and cut them up to use to wipe down surfaces." When purchasing household items online from companies like Amazon or Jet, I will ask to have them shipped in as few boxes as possible or as small a box as possible if a single item is to be sent." A year ago, I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels."
If you lose too much water, and you have to keep going to the water fountain, that can take away from their classroom experience"可知,因为热,孩子们就会不断喝水,而不断喝水又会减少孩子上课的体验,进而影响他们的专注力;再结合第一段"French teacher Tiffany Choi is already worried that her students are suffering from absent-mindedness"可知,热浪使孩子们心不在焉。
But unless significant changes occur in the next decade—which seem more and more unlikely —the world will be locked into an inescapable period of heat waves unlike our species has ever seen"可知,除非在未来十年发生重大变化,否则世界将陷人一个不可避免的我们人类从没有遭遇过的热浪时期,而这似乎越来越不可能。
The school year has barely started in Denver, and French teacher Tiffany Choi is already worried that her students are suffering from absent-mindedness. The problem isn't texting, playing video games or passing notes.
故选A项。
Yet his advice still continues to affect the lives of millions of children and their parents.
If you wish strongly and have courage and endurance, then you can get to the summit of your dream可知,他的经历告诉我们"有志者事竟成",故选D项。

根据 Ever since的提示可知主句要用现在完成时且主语是I,故填 have attracted。

I'm glad to tell you that our schools English club has a program called English Corner, which is aimed to make students interested and gain confidence in English. The program is from 3 p. m. to 6 p. m. at the library every Saturday.
The library needs more volunteers to tell students the cultural difference between English-speaking countries and China. Moreover, with the help of volunteers, students will watch English cartoons and learn English through games. I'm one of the volunteers. As far as I know, you are eager to make more Chinese friends. I think you should take advantage of this program. I'm looking forward to your early reply.
第二节
答案:
When I got home, my wife shared her story about her mom who passed away years ago. She said when she was young, she was very naughty, and her mother often punished her for her wrong deeds. Later when she grew up she became aware of her mother's love. But her mother died of lung cancer and she never had a chance to show her gratitude. At that moment I realized the importance of saying "love" to our beloved ones in time.
Several days later, I received my mother s invitation. We went out for a movie. You can't imagine how happy we were that day. We discussed the movie, laughed and even planned the next date. On the way home, I held my mother's hand and said to her gently, "Nothing is more valuable than the love of you in the world. Believe me, your dear son will return the favor. Mom, I love you," We looked at each other with tears rolling down.
