Fifty years ago I had a young family of three boys.My husband Johnny and I left them with a friend while we made a rare trip to the cinema in Liverpool.
It was dark and pouring with rain but with the headlights shining on the road,we saw something ahead of us.Johnny pulled to a stop and I jumped out,ran to the grass edge and grabbed a small, wet, and frightened creature.I wrapped it safely in my woollen hat and insisted that my husband turn back and head for home.We thought it was a baby rabbit because it had long ears and was grayish-brown in colour.Once home,we filled a box with torn-up newspaper and a warm towel. We named our new animal Bobsy as we had no idea of its sex.
Sadly though,on the third day with us,it caught its back foot in a door and we quickly realised it was broken. We rushed to the vet(兽医),who said,“It’s only a rabbit.I’ll put it to sleep.” Our response was a very determined,“No way!”We found another vet and told that she was a baby hare.We were told we should continue to keep her in her box for a week and her foot would heal.
After her recovery,Bobsy learnt to use the kitty litter tray. She would comb her long ears with her front paws. The local paper heard about this and came to our house to take her photo and write a story about her.We had her for seven wonderful years before we moved to New Zealand and we will never forget her.

People walk almost an extra mile each day if they have an activity tracker on their smartphone or watch,a study has found.
Researchers analyzed dozens of studies comparing people’s exercise activity with and without a tracking app,and found that being able to keep tabs on progress boosted how far people walked or ran.The studies involved a total of 7,454 people.
Overall, people walked an average of 1,850 more steps if they had an app—a significant increase in daily workouts. Most people take somewhere around 2,000 steps to walk a mile.
Authors of the study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, said doctors might consider prescribing(开处方) such apps and trackers for patients looking to get fitter.
“Interventions(介入) using smartphone apps or activity trackers seem promising from a clinical and public health perspective,” the authors wrote.
“Given the wide and increasing reach of smartphones, even modest improvements in physical activity can produce large effects at the population level.”
The study looked at research conducted mainly in the United States, and less than a third of the subjects involved were women,so it’s unclear how widespread the findings would be.
The average number of steps taken by American adults is between 4,000 and 5,000 per day, previous research has shown.
25.What does the study find about the walking tracker
A.It speeds up walking.
B.It follows your position.
C.It assists the research.
D.It benefits the walkers.
26.Why do doctors advocate their patients using such apps and trackers
A.To replace medicine.
B.To help keep healthy.
C.To communicate with them.
D.To record their health condition.
27.Which word best describes the authors’ attitude of the study towards using walking trackers
A.Indifferent. B.Ambiguous.
C.Optimistic. D.Skeptical.

As we all know, there are plenty of different parks to visit in the UK.All theme parks in Britain have cafes, restaurants, picnic areas and gift shops,so you’ll still have an enormous number of attractions to see and do when you and the kids have been on enough rides. There are usually smaller “funfair” rides, roller coasters and games as well,so younger children won’t get bored.Several theme parks also have other incredible attractions next to them, for example, water parks often open all year round, unlike the theme parks.
Whenever you are in Britain, there’s likely to be a theme park within one or two hours’ drive, bus ride or train journey.Several theme parks even have accommodation(膳宿) so you can stay for a day or two if you want to make a trip into a short holiday.
Prices for UK theme parks vary considerably: some have an entrance price which allows you to go on all the rides, while in others you have to pay for every ride individually. It can also make a difference whether you go during peak time or not.For example, tickets always cost more during school holidays and weekends than they do during the weekdays.
Theme parks always get very busy during the summer months,so if you don’t like crowds it’s usually a good idea to go earlier or later in the year!
If you’re thinking of visiting a UK theme park,it’s worth having a look for special offers on tickets.Products such as chocolate bars and cereals sometimes have “buy one get one free” offers on theme park tickets,so keep a look out in shops and supermarkets.
28.According to the passage, what should you do if you are tired of crowds in the theme park
A.Avoid the busiest months.
B.Go earlier or later in the daytime.
C.Choose one with few visitors.
D.Go there when no one is in it.
29.What would be the best title for the text
A.What to Do in the Theme Park
B.Theme Parks in the UK
C.Visiting Theme Parks
D.Introduction to Famous Theme Parks
30.What does the writer exclude(排除)in this passage
A.Things to do. B.Prices for theme parks.
C.Rules to obey. D.Special offers.
31.If you go to the theme park during the weekdays, you’ll probably .
A.have to spend more B.save some money
C.have a good time D.get some thing free

The city-state of Dubai that is home to the world’s tallest building is fast improving its reputation as the city of the future.Dubai officials added to their list of futuristic accomplishments with the introduction of the world’s first robot police officer.
Nicknamed Robocop after the 1987 action movie, the 1.7-metre tall humanoid (类人的) robot was introduced at the 4th annual Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference.First introduced in 2011 as REEM by Barcelona-based PAL Robotics, the robot was built to entertain guests at conferences and serve as an information booth at public places. However, the forward-thinking officials of the Dubai police force saw another potential application and partnered with the Spanish company to build a version that would help improve public safety.
Locals and visitors can get help from Lieutenant Robocop which is currently on duty at the Dubai Mall, using the touchscreen on its chest.Armed with technology from supercomputer Watson, the “policeman” can provide visitors with directions and other information regarding the mall in one of six languages, including Arabic and English and also accept payment for any fines, like parking tickets. It can also detect criminals with an 80 percent accuracy from 100-feet away and send the information real-time to command centre through its camera eyes. While Robocop cannot physically protect people in trouble,an SOS button on its touchscreen can connect them to a human member of the Dubai police force instantly. When not assisting people or seeking out lawbreakers,Robocop brings smiles to people’s faces by posing for selfies or showering them with compliments.
Once the robot officer has been thoroughly tested, the Smart Services Department at Dubai Police plans to “hire” more Robocops to patrol (巡逻) other public areas and also act as receptionists at police stations.
32.How can people communicate with Robocop
A.By touching its screen.
B.By paying some money.
C.By asking the mall for permission.
D.By getting directions from a policeman.
33.How does Robocop react to lawbreaking
A.It fines the lawbreakers.
B.It physically protects the victim.
C.It reports the situation to a policeman.
D.It sends an SOS message to the company.
34.Where does Robocop get its name
A.From a movie.
B.At a conference.
C.From a building.
D.From Dubai officials.
35.What was the original purpose of Robocop
A.To be officials’ partner.
B.To help guests in a company.
C.To serve in Dubai police stations.
D.To offer entertainment and information.

The pleasure of unplugging from social media
Social media takes up a lot of our time and it’s really distracting and even damaging. So for me,when I travel I love the fact that I’m often cut off from any Internet.I stop caring about what others are doing and instead focus on having fun. 37

The world isn’t as scary as you think
If you watch the news as much as I do,it’s easy to start thinking that the entire world is a scary, dangerous place. 40 But in general, the average country is just as safe as the one you live in now.Why let your fear prevent you
A.Travelling is a transforming experience.
B.Life doesn’t always go according to plans.
C.Travelling, however, makes us all stop and enjoy the moment.
D.The world is a giant place, and we each just make up a tiny part of it.
E.I find a life behind a screen can never compare with a life being lived fully.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给的段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lately,I was deeply touched with two movies about faithful dogs:A Dog’s Purpose and A Dog’s Way Home. A dog’s life cycled and cycled only to meet his first owner while the other covered 400 miles of toil and hunger all the way back to her home.I had a faithful dog too when I was a little girl, but it was a different story.
When my dad first took him home in a cardboard box,he was so quiet that I even doubted whether there was really a dog in it.When I peeped through two small holes on the side,I just saw a patch of grey fur.My dad assured me that it was just a small dog before I dared to open the box. There he was! What a lovely grey dog!He was slim and looked smart.I was on my knees as I cheerfully observed him. However,he tried to avoid eye contact with me,apparently a little scared with everything strange around.I wanted to pet his head but he only turned his head away.
When he became familiar with me,I called him Billy and he was really delighted, zagging his tail.Every time I left for school,he saw me off. When I came back,he always waited on my way home and greeted me with his licks and brushed his head against legs. When Billy was in the kitchen with my father, lying on a small heap of firewood side the furnace(灶),he could always know which piece of firewood my dad would pick and raised his paw in time.It always surprised me how intelligent and considerate Billy was.I imagined him turning into a small boy carrying my schoolbag for me and talking with my dad. With Billy brightening every day of my childhood,I was more than happy.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
But one day,Billy was seriously ill.
A few years later,I went to a dog’s shelter to try my luck.

out myself. My grandpa came falling out right after me.After I went through a minute of free fall,I opened the parachute and landed to the ground. When I landed I was filled with excitement, but my sister caught my attention and made me turn around so I could see my grandpa landing—then she took a picture as soon as he did.I couldn’t ask for a better experience!

W:A beer.OK,actually as soon as we finish this I’ll be right with you.Why is bowling so popular
M:It’s cheap and that’s the main reason for it.You can spend as much time here as you want. That’s what I like about it.We can just take our time. And you don’t need any special skills to play it.Anybody can do it.
W:Yeah. How long have you been bowling
M:Not long.Maybe I’ve only been ten to fifteen times in my whole life.
