Topic 1 I’m going to play basketball.
Section C（1a—1d）
Ⅰ. Teaching aims
1. To learn some useful words and expressions:
tennis/table tennis/badminton/cycling/swimming/basketball/baseball
spend/take part in/ be good at….
2. To learn the Simple Future Tense with “be going to”.
3. To talk about the favourite sports.
4. To lead students to concern about the importance of playing sports.
5. To introduce the Military World Games to students and activate their sense of pride to be a Chinese.
Ⅱ. Key and Difficult Points
Key points：
1. To master the key words and sentence structure:
spend … (in)doing/on …, take part in …,be good at, be going to…
2. To train students’ reading and writing skills using target language.
Difficult points：
1. To master the key structure : be going to.
2. Help students to get the information from the passage and train their reading skills.
Ⅲ.Teaching procedures
Step 1 Pre-reading
1.Play a short video about different kinds of sports and ask students to remember as many as they can.
T: What sports can you find in this video
S: Soccer/basketball/high jump/long jump...
2.Make a brainstorm about students’ favorite sports to review the key words and sentences they have learned before.

3.Show some pictures about Ann and ask students to answer the question “what kind of sports does Ann like ”
Aim: To lead students in the topic and activate some previous knowledge they know about this topic.
Step 2 While-reading
1. The first reading: read the passage quickly and write the key phrases under each picture.
Aim: Have a general understanding of the passage; develop students’ skimming and scanning skills
2. The second reading: read the passage carefully.
(1) Answer the questions and prepare 4 new questions for the other groups. Six students from six different groups report their questions meanwhile students in other groups find out the answers as quickly as possible.

How long does she spend in the gym every day
What is Ann going to do in the school sports meet
(2) Deal with the key words and sentence structure. Read the key sentences and
guess the meanings of the new words and phrases,including spend,take part in,be
good at,be going to. Do the exercises on the handouts.
Aim:Help students have a better understanding about the details of the passage.
3. The third reading:
(1) Read the passage again and fill in the blanks on the screen.
(2) Pay attention to be going to and read them together.
(3) Read it aloud and try to remember the passage.
(4) Retell the text according to the six pictures on the blackboard. Then
encourage some students to retell it on their own.
Aim:Let students use new words and phrases to retell the passage.
Step3 Post-reading
Group work: Talk about sports in groups, and then report it.Discuss the questions in 1d.

Is it good for your health
At last, the group leader should summarize and make a report. The following expressions are expected to be used in their conversation.

Sample:I like running best because I think it is good for my legs and heart. I spend twenty minutes running on the school playground every day. I learn soccer on Saturdays, and now I am good at it. I am going to take part in the 100-meter race next Monday.
Aim: To practice the target sentences students have learned in this period. Students can share ideas with the others in the group work.
Step 4 Consolidation
Summarize what students have learned today. Important language points are shown on the screen.
Lead students to concern about the importance of playing sports. Life lies in healthy exercise.
Step 5 Teaching Reflection
Students are able to learn the reading strategies of skimming and scanning easily, but it’s a little difficult for the students to understand the structure be going to. Teacher should design more exercises to help them understand the difficult point.
