More children in China are getter fatter. In 2018, 16% of Chinese children and teenagers were overweight (超重的), according to the National Health Commission (NHC).
Being too fat is bad for children’s health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), overweight and obese children are more possible to develop diseases like diabetes (糖尿病) when they are very young. This can cause a higher chance of early-aged death.
On Oct 23, 2020, the NHC, together with five other national departments, worked out a plan to stop and control obesity (肥胖症). The plan is to cut down the number of obesity among children aged 0-18 years by 70% from 2021 to 2030.
Kids are putting fat because of changes in their food and life. They eat too much unhealthy food. And too much schoolwork and greater use of electronic devices (电子产品) could also be a cause.
