教学目标 知识与技能 1.能听懂、正确朗读和理解词汇modern、Olympics、 ring、stand、least、chance、gold、motto、Olympic、symbol、stand for、at least、nowadays、compete、 host、medal。2. 能听懂有关奥运会的对话及类似的英语文字材料。3. 能用英语和同学朋友简单谈论奥运会。4. 能读懂有关奥运会的对话或文章。
过程与方法 1.通过观看北京奥运会视频与共唱主题曲You and me,酝酿奥运气氛以及情景谈话学习部分新词并导入课文;2.通过学习1a掌握新词compete/least/chance/symbol/nowadays等以及短语;3.引导学生再读短文,从判断正误中对文本进行一次输出;4.通过小组合作学习,互帮互助,解决阅读短文中遇到的问题,并展示本组所积累的重难点短语,在合作探究中提升对各知识点的认识;5.由谈论历届奥运会过渡到2,让学生在独立学习中巩固过去式及拓展奥运信息;6.回归小组合作,让学生在小组中把本节课所学知识进行整合,以达到本节课最主要目标-能输出奥运相关信息,提高口语表达能力的目的。
情感态度与价值观 1.了解奥林匹克运动会的相关信息,培养学生的爱国热情。2.发扬奥运精神,积极锻炼,强身健体。
教学重点、难点及解决措施 教学重点 1. 能正确拼读下列单词:modern, Olympics, ring, stand, least, chance, whether, gold;能明白下列单词或短语的含义:motto, symbol, stand for, at least, nowadays, compete, host, beginning, medal.2. 能在英语对话或文章中听懂、读懂下列短语:stand for, every four years, become more and more popular, have the chance to do sth.等。3. 能正确地理解下列句子并能加以运用:In the future, more cities will have the chance to hold the Olympics.The Olympic Games will be more exciting.The Olympics are becoming more and more popular.

1 Greeting students ready for learning(4 mins) Greet and play a video that is about Beijing Olympics and the theme song . Look at the video about Beijing Olympics and “ You And Me” sung by Liu Huan &Sarah Brightman. Focus ss’ attention on Olympics and enliven the atmosphere.
2 Pre-reading(6mins) 1. Encourage the students to show the information about Olympics. Teacher writes “Olympics” and “Olympics” on the blackboard. 2.Teacher leads the whole class to say something about Olympics, help ss learn the new words “ring”\ “motto”\ “symbol”.3. Teacher introduces Olympics and writes “The Modern Olympics” on the blackboard and leads the students to read. 1.Share the information about Olympics and learn the new words “Olympics” and “Olympics” 2.Show some sentences and learn the new words. 3.Read the new words after the teacher. 1&2.Let the students share the information 3.Lead the class to know about Olympics and enlarge vocabulary.
3 Whole-reading (18mins) 1.Let ss read the passage alone with two questions, then encourage volunteers to answer them.2.Help the class go through the sentences that should be marked T or F , then encourage ss to read the passage alone again, and mark T or F.3.Encourage ss to work in groups to discuss and find out the important words /phrases/sentences, then show theirs in their favorite ways.4.Help ss grasp the important structures through a ppt, say and read. 1.Read the passage alone, guess the Chinese meanings of new words, then answer the questions.2.Go through the sentences and read the passage, then mark T or F.3.Work in groups, talk about the important words/ phrases/sentences, after it, show theirs one group and one group.4.Get familiar with key points. Let ss get a rough understanding of the passage, advocate ss to learn and think independently and cultivate ss’ ability of reading. Through talking about words and so on, let ss grasp the important ones and train cooperation awareness.
Post-reading(6min) 1.Let the whole class think about what they learnt just now and show theirs later on. 2. Lead to the years and the host city of the Olympics, let ss discuss them in pairs, then report it. 3.Teacher shows the passage to get the whole class to check whether the answers are right or wrong just now.4.Try to fill in the blanks through reading the passage, Lead the students to find out the clue of the time, to distinguish the past, the present, the future. then check their answers together. 1.Think about what they learnt from the passage and prepare for presentation later on.2.Work in pairs to match the years and the host cities, then report it.3.Check right or wrong and know the main idea of the passage.4.Fill in the blanks alone and find out the clues of the time ,finally check their answers. Help ss clear the idea of the passage. Foster ss’ ability of cooperation. Pave the way for the presentation next.
Products(7mins) Get ss to talk about the Olympics in groups in their favorite way for 4-5 minutes, then show theirs in a way they like. Work in groups, talk about the Olympics using the information that they learnt in this class. Develop ss’ ability of using language and cooperation.
Summary(3min) Lead the students reflect what they have learnt, help ss go through the key words/ phrases/ sentences. Reflect what they have learnt, go through the key ones . Cultivate the good habit of concluding experience.
